configure texliveonfly on lyx

2019-02-26 Thread Yu Jin
hi,

I just switched from miktex to texlive and discovered the "texliveonfly"
package, which automatically installs missed packages, just like miktex.
I installed it right through the texlive manager, but there was a bug, for
which the solution exists, but not included in that version for some reason
(see https://github.com/maphy-psd/texliveonfly/issues/1). So i just
downloaded the script from https://github.com/maphy-psd/texliveonfly and
replaced it unter C:\texlive\2018\texmf-dist\scripts\texliveonfly (Just
saying for those who want to try it out too and could run into the same
problem).

Then i configured it for texworks following
https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/50464/how-to-setup-texliveonfly-on-any-latex-editor?noredirect=1&lq=1

My question now is, is it possible to use with LyX? how could i configure
it?

Thanks

Yeah this happens on any software which is not known to Windows (from what
the web says
).
Programs, which not many users use (however Microsoft gets that data) are
considered insecure, this prompt will stop showing up eventually when
enough users run the installer. It will also not appear when you want to
run it a second time after you clicked on "run anyway" on previous
execution. FYI I just downloaded the official installer and got this prompt
when trying to run it for the first time.

> Also, when starting the installer, it complained that LyX was already
open, even though it was just a development version. I suppose that this
check should be performed much later, i.e. just when actually starting the
installation: is the LyX version installed in that folder already started?

Ok, your feedback has reached me, I will see what I can do there.

Hello Bernd,

Thank you for your feedback. Can you please provide some more information?

Which operating system are you using?
How exactly do you start LyX for the first time? E.g. on Windows there is a
checkbox on the last page of the installer. Or do you simply launch the
program like you would usually do?
Which pdf viewer are you using?

Never heard of qt config programs. However here it looks like Qt does not
react nice to the Windows setting "Let Windows try to fix apps so they're
not blurry", deactivating that solved it for me. You can find this settings

Re: Problem saving a file [DROPBOX]

2020-09-21 Thread Yu Jin
About your original issue:
Maybe it's a permissions issue? Did you check in Dropbox if you are allowed
to change that file. I mean I have seen enough wired stuff where something
unexplainable(for an average user at least) happened, and maybe dropbox
changing permissions is one of those?

About the other warning you got:
Am So., 20. Sept. 2020 um 17:35 Uhr schrieb :

> What I have tried is using another file in Dropbox, writing and rewriting

This is a warning from dropbox. "#file.lyx# is an autosave file of lyx,
where your current work is saved when you don't manually save for a certain
period of time, so when lyx crashes you can recover that file and don't
lose all the progress.
When you close lyx while the file is present, lyx deletes it. Dropbox
doesn't know that it is just a backup file so it warns you that you are
deleting a file from the cloud storage and therefore "it will no longer be
shared with anyone".
What is strange here is that the warning only happens when you hit "save
unter" and save outside of dropbox. When you just close lyx (so the file
also gets deleted) there is no warning, maybe we should investigate, I
probably will later.
That would explain this warning and you can just ignore it.

Just don't enable "LyX's users preferences" when uninstalling the old LyX,
that way your user folder will not be deleted. Then install the new LyX and
your modules should still be there.

Actually, since it is still LyX2.3, there is no need to copy anything. It
should work out of the box if the preferences are not chosen to be deleted
when uninstalling old LyX. The installer does not delete anything in
AppData, if it gets deleted then only by the uninstaller.

While it's nothing system breaking, you are leaving junk in your registry
behind which might affect something else (like installer not starting).

Looking back I have to say that releasing the new installer as official was
too suddenly. I also thought recently that I should have implemented a bit
of code that at least prevents overinstalling with a message box saying
that old LyX needs to be uninstalled. If I'd been told 2 weeks before the
release that the new installer would be released as official, then I would
have thought about this. Now it is kinda too late, because those who
already overinstalled will not be able to remove the old junk in the
registry without knowing what to do or following a rather long instructions
set. I'm not blaming Riki or anyone else, just giving feedback and
recording the occurrence, because I too should have braked and asked for a
bit of time to think. But anyway, it's not the end of the world for anyone
and for us and me it was an experience, and all experience is valuable.

Back to your question. Technically it is possible, it just needs to be
coded (as everything else). Though it would be a pain (because there is not
just LyX specific, but also imagemagick, ghostscript and python registry
entries made by the old installer), I think I could code that if we agree
on it. And I would also implement what I said above, where the installer
would cancel with a message box. A question would be if we then release
2.3.6-Installer-2 with these new parts and maybe get those few, who still
did not update, to update safely (which is what I would propose) or repair
everything with 2.3.7/2.4.0.

Hi, it can be installed as usual, admin rights are not nessesary. You might
want to wait a few more days until I produce LyX-2.3.6-Installer-2 though.

Yes, I get this error message:

The message box is shown, but the file is fine afterwards I can edit it and
save normally, its just the message when opening.

Only occurs in that one specifig version (both 32 and 64 bit build are
affected though), current master works fine.

The file is fairly new:
https://www.lyx.org/trac/changeset/ccc7c641c64aac28791693ff0daa620a383f8aeb/lyxgit

It was not in the tarballs for the alpha, NSIS does not check each file
manually in the Resources folder when building the installer, just copy it
as it was built and prepared my the compiler and CMake.

Dark mode is not available for LyX on Windows, Qt does not support it
there. I have searched on the web on how to deal with it and found some
workaround here and there but nothing official and it did seem like a lot
of work. Maybe one day some LyX dev will feel like doing it, but for now
consider it not existent. You can make one thing dark though, the work
area, but menus, toolbars and messages pane and other stuff you can show on
the bottom can not be made dark.

Hi, what about:
in the float insert "box, simple frame" right click on it choose inner box
= none and uncheck "width" checkbox. Then put 0 pt in "box separation"
the result should look like this in the latex code:

\begin{figure}

{\fboxsep 0pt\fbox{\includegraphics{../Downloads/6}}}

\caption{}

\end{figure}

I have no experience with windows 11, but does the trust thing come from
the browser or windows itself? What browser are you using? Do you have a
screenshot?
There is a Checksums & signing section on

but I have not done it myself yet though, so I can't tell more.
@Riki maybe you could add my key fingerprint to it? in case you know it or

Re: No display of file icon, the slanted blue coloured L

2023-07-17 Thread Yu Jin
Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. The slanted blue coloured L is not supposed to
be the icon of the *.lyx file, it was earlier, but that was by mistake.
The 'L' is a version of the application icon itself, which was earlier used
for the documents too by mistake. Since the Windows installer was rewritten
in LyX version 2.3.6 the icon has been fixed and now you see a sheet of
paper with a funny face on it.

This is definitely not what it looks like on my system. It looks like the
icon just does not work on yours. Try to uninstall all versions of LyX on
your PC and then freshly install the new Version of LyX.

Which OS? If Windows, then uninstall, you'll get a message window asking

I observed this on the Qt new "windows11" style, which unfortunately seems
to be default on Windows (at least on Windows 11). Try changing to "fusion"
style in the Preferences under user interface -> user interface style.

Actually 6.7.2 didn't fix it at all, still seeing this.

The thing here is that starting from version 6.5 Qt "supports" dark theme
by following your system theme and starting from version 6.7 Qt even uses
the ui style "windows11" by default which (also) has a dark theme. So you
end up with that style and dark theme if your system is set to dark. You
can avoid it by choosing a different ui style, which does not have a dark
theme, in the preferences -> user interface -> user interface style. The
only style *without* dark theme is "windowsvista" though, it was the
default style on Windows in Qt versions pre 6.7. I usually compile with the
newest Qt version for Windows, so LyX 2.4.0 and newer uses Qt version 6.7
and newer so that is why you get the dark theme now.

Yeah it is, for a while already actually.

Don't know, I don't have an ARM machine here to try. But if all would go
well, then it would be native ARM on Windows of course.

I think it would not be hard to compile itself, rather to get all the
dependencies for ARM64. Like netbpm, unoconv, rsvg-convert and all the
runtime dll files which are delivered with lyx.
To cross compile there is just a workload in Visual Studio for cross
compiling to ARM64 Windows, doesn't seem too hard tbh.

The installer does not create anything inside the LyX user directory, as
far as I understand it is the configure.py script that should do that.

I don't see those too, but I have no idea what they do. Does something not
