[Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Jose Lopez
Hi all, I have this thing going on on my wifes desktop. It happened when I
did a clean install, from Lubuntu12.04 to 12.10. This has never happen to
me before, so I thought I would ask.
The problem is, that when I tranzfered my backed up folders/files from my
usb stick, (like I do all the time) this time it made a copy not only on
the /home which is where I copied it to, but it also made copies in the
desktop. Now when I try to delete the desktop items it also deletes them in
the file manager.
Q: Is there a setting that might have gotten messed up and I need to change?
Any help is appreciated,
Thank you
Jose

Hello Jose,

You email is not clear, at least to me. Would you please explain what is
going on?
What system are you using?
Where are you moving the files to?
Are you making two copies of these? when you delete a file from the File
Manager (Desktop Folder), on your Desktop, obviously it will be removed too.

I'm confused though!

Waiting for your explanation :)

Thank you!

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Jose Lopez
I thought I said Lubuntu12.10, When I copied the backed up folder/files
from my usb stick to my /home. It also made a copy on my desktop. If I try
to delete the desktop copy, it also removes my /home copy. that should not
be.

Okay, fair enough.

Give me few mins to go to my test laptop and try to re-produce that.

What version is it? 32 or 64?
Is this an upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10?

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Jose Lopez
It is 32 bit not a upgrade, is a clean install from 12.04 to 12.10. this is
the same I have done all the time and even on that same desktop it did not
do that the last time I (updated the OS) It's my wifes and she does not
care, but I do. I only does it on the folder/files been tranzfered/copied
over. It does not do it on the native folders of the install.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Ali Linx (amjjawad)
Hi again from my test machine :)

I just tried to re-produce that and everything is fine. I tried to copy
some files from my USB Drive to my Home Folder (Yes, I do have a separate
/home partition) and it didn't duplicate the copy to the Desktop Folder.

I tried to repeat it 3 times, but everything is fine at my end.
I tried from two different USB Drives with two different size, same.
Everything is normal.

Does it happen with you from every USB Drive you try to copy from?

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Jose Lopez
I haven't tried another usb stick just because it has always worked with
this one, and yes I also have a seperate /home. I really don,t know why is
doing this, again like you I,m testing always in four desktops, and three
laptops and never had this happen including the desktop in question. It has
been like that for about a month or so, just have had time to address it.
I'm doing some paper work today so I thought I would thro that Q. out there
see is anybody had a answer to it. I just don't get why it would delete the
/home folder throu the desktop?

Hi Lars, I usually open two file managers, one with the /home opened and
one with the usb stick opened and then I copy/paste from one to another.

Is this an upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10?

did not do that the last time I (updated the OS) It's my wifes and she does
not care, but I do. I only does it on the folder/files been
tranzfered/copied over. It does not do it on the native folders of the
 install.

I tried to repeat it 3 times, but everything is fine at my end.

Does it happen with you from every USB Drive you try to copy from?

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Ali Linx (amjjawad)
This may seem silly but try to open One window for PCManFM and two tabs,
one for the source (USB) and the 2nd for the destination and start copying
the files.

For me, I usually do this when I have multiple files/folders to transfer
but in most cases, I open one PCManFM window with one tab for the USB,
copy, go to home, paste.

I will try now your approach and see if what would trigger the issue :)

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Files and Folders going to desktop

2013-04-15 Thread Ali Linx (amjjawad)
Approach 1:
When the pop up show up for opening the USB Drive with The File Manager, I
did open it.
I opened another window for The File Manager
Copy the source folders from USB
Paste to my Home

Approach 2:
Instead of copy-paste, I dragged and dropped the folders
Two windows for The File Manager were opened

Tried this on Lubuntu 12.04, 12.10 and 13.04 Beta 2

I failed to re-produce the same issue that you reported :)

[Lubuntu-qa] cdromupgrade

2013-04-15 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi Unit193 / Jonathan,

it is a while since I tried to use an alternate iso to do an upgrade. I
followed the instructions at
http://linuxpoison.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/how-to-upgrade-ubuntu-using-alternate.html
which
mounted the ISO fine and allowed me to issue the command to upgrade. All
was well, EXCEPT that it then tries to download all the required files from
the internet instead of using the ones on the mounted ISO. As lubuntu is
the only team left that uses alternate (for cdromupgrade), could you have a
look at the script and possibly bug-fix it. (Server team no longer use
cdromupgrade, it is purely a desktop script).

The release team do not have objections to it being made to work, just that
we are pretty much on our own here! I was considering just turning my
internet access off to see if it would then use the ISO. any thoughts?

Regards,

Phill.

[Lubuntu-qa] Chromium dev.

2013-04-15 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi,

whilst the ubuntu guys do ensure timely updates for chromium, there are
some of us who do not mind being on the bleeding edge. The dev version of
chromium has now been added to raring. Please understand that this is not
the 'stable beta' which seems to have fallen by the way side owing to not
enough man hours. If you want to 'play safe' then use the standard upgrades
that apply, if you want to try out the 'dev' version, then add Alex's PPA.
[1].

As with all 'dev' versions, it may break so do be aware of how to 'roll
back'. But, for me it only had a (non-critical) bug for a couple of days in
the last 12 months.

@Alex, thanks for keeping the dev PPA updated.

Regards,

Phill.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Chromium dev.

2013-04-15 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi Scott,

The 'PPA' I think you refer to [1] is not supported, and has not been for
over a year. The Ubuntu team are simply concentrating on having SRU's. The
PPA link I provided states that is not 'official', and this information was
sent to the QA/Testing members only. I also stated that if they were to use
it, they should know how to 'roll back'. At present, there seems no formal
method of getting Chromium from 'dev', to 'beta' to 'released'. Security
updates from the current version on release to the dev version are over 2
release steps out of sync. which is not ideal, but out of my hands.

Regards,

Phill.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Chromium dev.

2013-04-15 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi,

Oh, my grammar!! "The dev version of chromium has now been added to raring
" Should read " A Raring dev version of chromium has now been added" to
this PPA. To save any further mis understandings, PPA actually stands
for Personal
Package Archive [1]. So, ANY PPA is to be considered as untrusted, this
includes all the ones that dev teams create when they ask you go test
something out. I mistakingly thought that the testing team would understand
what a PPA is, how to add it, the risks and how to remove it. I'm glad to
set the matter straight.

Regards,

Phill.

The fix for this bug has been awaiting testing feedback in the -proposed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
This bug affects all GTK3 applications using the lubuntu-artwork.
It makes all tooltips quite unreadable (black on black), which is quite
annoying, and affects many applications.

  [Test Case]
  - Open a GTK3 application (Evince for example)
  - Hover on the toolbar to generate a tooltip
  - See the tooltips black on black.

  [Regression Potential]
I can't see any potential regression, since the patch only change this
specific color.

  Original bug report.
See the screenshot attached, tooltip on notebook tab (for example, gedit)
are black with black background, which is difficult to read. I expect that
it's written in white with black background.
