warm-hearted opera is based on two episodes from Julia Child’s popular
cooking show in which she prepares a chocolate cake and premiered in 1989
with actress Jean Stapleton originating the role of Julia Child. The
evening will begin with a performance by jazz guitarist Frank DiBussolo,
followed by Bon Appétit! and capped off with chocolate cupcakes and
beverages. The concert takes place in The Dewey Family Hall at deCordova.

Re: [LincolnTalk] ISO Caterer

2023-05-17 Thread Rachel Shulman
Hi Linda,

I work with a bunch of caterers bc of my job at MIT, and I have always had
good experiences with Basil Tree and Cafe Luna. Not only are they reliable,
they are also great about allergens. Basil Tree has a sustainability focus,
and Cafe Luna is woman-owned, if such things are important to you. A number
of years ago I worked with Via Lago, but I can't speak for their quality
now.

https://www.basiltree.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Basil-Tree-Menu.pdf
Jaime, the catering manager with whom I've worked, is fantastic.

https://www.cafeluna-centralsq.com/catering
Teri, the owner, is always super responsive.
https://vialagocatering.com/

I also know that Codman Farm has started doing prepared food. Perhaps they
could put together something for you.

I hope this is helpful!

best,
Rachel

[LincolnTalk] 5/16/20234 HFAC Meeting

2023-05-17 Thread Christopher Eliot
The Hanscom Field Advisory Commission met last night and welcomed a new
community engagement representative from the FAA, Lindsey White. This is a
welcome improvement to our meetings because so many issues surrounding Hanscom
Field are affected by federal policy.

I presented an overview of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) which is the
cornerstone of the federal plan to make aviation climate friendly. 65% of the
planned reduction in carbon emissions by 2050 is intended to result from
increasing use of SAF. Most of my material is based on a GAO report <
https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-23-105300.pdf
>.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is alternative jet fuel that is made from
renewable and waste feedstocks and meets sustainability criteria to achieve a
net greenhouse gas emissions reduction on a lifecycle basis compared to
conventional jet fuel. It can be used as a drop-in replacement for jet fuel,
meaning that existing fueling infrastructure and aircraft can use the fuel with
no modifications. The US has spent over $34.5 billion to develop SAF
technology. However, SAF can cost from 2 to 8 times the price of conventional
jet fuel so very little of it is purchased.

Industry groups and the US government claim that hydrogen powered aircraft are
decades in the future. However, "At Airbus, we believe that hydrogen is one of
the most promising decarbonization technologies for aviation. This is why we
consider hydrogen to be an important technology pathway to achieve our ambition
of bringing low-carbon commercial aircraft to market by 2035.”
> I cannot
explain the difference between the US view that hydrogen flight is decades in
the future while the largest European aircraft manufacturer claims it will
produce such aircraft in a dozen years.

The GAO report find insufficient metrics in the US SAF plan to demonstrate
progress.

I find it unsettling that the US has 30 year plan to make aviation climate
friendly, the GAO cannot measure if progress is being made toward this goal,
and the plan requires no other climate actions by the airlines or aviation
industry, despite repeated warnings from the United Nations that we have five
years or less to address the climate crisis. Protecting the planet is the first
priority, in my view.

Hi there, It's Velvet!

For those who don’t know me, I’m Velvet Vision and I’m a 16 year old
Lincoln resident and drag queen. This past December I did an all ages drag
holiday drag show and it was a huge success. I received such great feedback
so I am so excited to say I am putting on another show! I’m On Saturday,
May 27th I am hosting an all-ages, family drag show at Bemis Hall which
will be Disney villain-themed. I would absolutely love it if you were to

portraying all different Disney animated villains. Bring your family for an
amazing night with everything from marvelous drag fashion to rousing
lipsynchs that you won't forget. Though this show is villain themed there
is no need to be nervous about scares, the cast and I are taking great care
to make this fun for everyone, even your little ones. Don't know Disney?
Don't worry! No matter your Disney movie knowledge this show is going to be
a blast. Doors for the show will open at 6:45 with the show starting at
7:00 PM. The show is not expected to go longer than an hour to an hour and
a half to accommodate the kids. Tickets will be available at the door
or at this
link online
.
Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns you may have. I hope
to see you there!

Yours,
Velvet
