2021-07-26 Thread kliattaudi--- via Lincoln
Thank you Moira for your post.I have often thought that more simple benches on
public walkways, near the train, on the way to the library, and even on trails
might make Lincoln more welcoming and inclusive. But perhaps that is too
expensive a thought? or perhaps benches might defile the rustic country
ambiance?  priorities, afterall?Cordially Jean Palmer

Subject: [LincolnTalk] a walk this afternoon

Hi all,
today we parked at Codman House, walked through the amazing  vegetable gardens
at Codman Farm, visited the brooder house to see all the baby chickens running
around and then on to Clark Gallery in their new location.  Bright and light
and beautiful and full of lovely paintings.  It was a very "civilised"  walk
and made me wish that some where we could have walked to have tea and afternoon
delights, and in general a restaurant in our empty space at the mall. I also
wondered about the occasional bench along the bike path.  My elderly parents
were happy walking the long trek to the library and back from our house but
would have enjoyed a bench or two along the way.
Benches designed by Lincolnites?  An art project for the town?
Small thoughts on this very lovely rainyish afternoon.

in Sudbury, not the houses being built on 117 near the Lincoln/Weston line:

Re: [LincolnTalk] concern for the diversity of our town, but economic and racially

2021-07-26 Thread Victoria Benalfew
Are any of those 300 units being set aside for low income
individuals/families?

Someone who makes $30,000 a year wouldn't be able to afford market rate
housing, and even if an apartment complex is labeled affordable, there is
only a set amount of units put aside for people who qualify.

For example, Oriole Landing is deemed affordable, but it is only a certain
percentage of units that have that lower rent, not the whole building. The
same goes for almost any other affordable housing complex.

Regards,

Victoria

[LincolnTalk] Well the saga continues!

2021-07-26 Thread sally kindleberger
Replacing my fridge has become a real challenge and a chore. My fridge is
66 inches tall and they don't make fridges that small with bottom
freezers. Most fridges are now 70 inches and taller.
To add to the dilemma, there is a huge lack of stock in stores because
during Covid they weren't being made or shipped out. Also a lack of small
parts. ARRG!

So right now I need a carpenter to remove the shelf over the current
space. In the meantime, if anyone has a mini college fridge that I could
borrow, that would help tide me over.

Right now I am buying ice and hoping it won't melt too quickly.
But I am certainly glad to have it since it will chill my Margarita!

Re: [LincolnTalk] a walk this afternoon

2021-07-26 Thread Anne Warner
Just before I was elected to be a Selectman in Belmont, many moons ago, I
initiated a project called "Benches for Belmont". Residents were invited
to make contributions to the town's coffers in return for having a bench
with a brass plaque on it dedicating it to a person or a cause. It was a
very, very popular program, and led in time to the large number of benches
in Belmont Center as well as elsewhere in town. Maybe we could start
something like that?

Re: [LincolnTalk] concern for the diversity of our town, but economic and racially

2021-07-26 Thread Sara Mattes
With regard to the large development, that is a question for Sudbury.
Almost all of these developments use market rate to cross subsidize the
affordable units.
So, there will most always be a mix with more market rate than
affordable/subsidized.

The alternative would be for a community to invest in these developments, and
most cannot afford to do so.

It’s a real dilemma which only seems to get worse.
