I'd say it could be you.

While I am on 1604 my FF version is the same as yours.

I don't use any special FF settings for my patch test (as I do for my home set
up) rig so perhaps you are using an extension or have set up some 'blocking of
something' that is intefering with this for you?

If you want to submit your own git formatted patch (and don't have commit
access) I can help shepherd this for you.

Else you can send me directly the text you want to add, bear in mind that I'll
need to know where you think it should go in the doc and that putting in non-LP
generated images (i.e. using LilyPond-book) is not something we do in the main
docs, so your descriptions need to be useful without pictures.

I can then at least create an issue tracker and, time permitting make the edits
myself.

GSOC and stylesheet work

2019-02-27 Thread Daniel Benjamin Miller

Hi all:

I'm an undergraduate student at McGill University. As I've personally
wanted to tweak LilyPond to improve the stylistic output of my scores, I
was hoping to do some work on LilyPond this summer, perhaps through
GNU's involvement in GSOC. I have some background in font design
(although mostly with outline fonts, not METAFONT, as I've only messed
around with that), and would be interested in improving either the font
or stylesheet support (so, sort of touching on two suggestions in the
project list from last year). My main caveat is that I'm not especially
experienced in Scheme (mostly having just messed around with it for
LilyPond purposes), though I'm eager to learn more and interested in
working on these issues, esp. if a mentor is available.

Are there any comments/suggestions on the current status of these
components and what I might be best advised to look at/work on?

Thanks!

I expect Apple's this uptight about using their hardware because their
business model for macOS has income coming from hardware sales instead
of software. Instructions I've seen for getting macOS running in a VM
include adding a configuration string like this:

"ourhardworkbythesewordsguardedpleasedontsteal(c)AppleComputerInc"

Great. Be assured that the project suggestions listed on
http://lilypond.org/google-summer-of-code.html are strictly that:
suggestions. There's absolutely nothing speaking against tailoring an
alternative project.

This is a bit difficult to assess since you give us a pretty sparse idea
of your skillset. "Not especially experienced in Scheme" is a bit vague,
especially as we have no idea what "eager to learn more" would turn out
in practice.

If you're interested in font design there would be no way around dealing
with METAFONT, the other options will require dealing with Scheme and/or
C++, to various extents. Do you have any experience with C++?

If you should be heading toward a project that requires dealing with
Scheme you should maybe try to familiarize yourself with it and show
yourself and us how that would be going.

AFAICS with any projects in the realm of fonts/stylesheets there would
be mentors available, so you can go ahead and try to figure out somewhat
more concretely what you might be interested in.

Best
Urs

That makes little enough sense for a development environment since the
actually relevant sales are for the machines running the resulting
applications. If people can just buy one Mac to develop software
running on 10 non-Macs, Apple hasn't gained anything worthwhile. In
our case people are restrained from using one non-Mac to develop
software running on 10 Macs. Using software that cannot sensibly be
offered in Apple's Appstore.

This is not as much about protecting the hardware sales model (which
definitely was the case when desktop Macs were much more relevant but
precedes this kind of Xcode license) but about keeping the walled
gardens locked up.

Uhh -- Ohh

You're right. Default-NoScript had disabled those links, it didn't do
so in earlier versions, though.

Thanks for the hint.
