[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1701353] [NEW] package linux-image-4.4.0-83-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128

Public bug reported:

"Ubuntu Software" was installing an OS update, and hung. I looked
online, and most people said the solution was to reboot, which I did.

When it restarted I got this error message.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1701085] Re: package linux-image-4.4.0-83-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 128

2017-07-06 Thread Steven Pemberton
Bear in mind that this bug report is only of a symptom of the real bug,
which is gnome-software hanging during an update (which it seems to do
regularly).

So doing the install and update as explained above fixes the symptom,
but not the bug.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 945310] Re: Unable to mount audio disc

2016-11-06 Thread Steven Pemberton
I'm getting this bug now on 16.04.

It repeatedly tries to access the drive, and stacks up dozens of
messages

"Unable to mount Audio Disc: Drive /dev/sr0 does not contain audio

The file system seems to attempt to mount it continually until I eject
the disc (see image).

Title:
  Unable to mount audio disc

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Running kernel 2.6.32-38 in Ubuntu 10.04, I cannot reliably mount
audio CDs on a USB CD/DVD drive.

The hardware being used is an Asus SDRW-08D1S-U USB CD/DVD drive
connected to a Lenovo Thinkpad X201. The same drive works perfectly in
Ubuntu for data CDs and DVDs, and in Windows XP for everything. But
with audio CDs in Ubuntu, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

Typically it will try repeatedly to mount the disc, and fail. Various
combinations of the following error dialogs pop up, one after another:

--"Unable to mount Audio Disc: Drive /dev/sr0 does not contain audio
files"
--"Unable to mount Audio Disc: Cannot find drive /dev/sr0"

Sometimes the disc will appear to mount correctly (i.e., "Audio Disc"
will appear on the desktop), then vanish when I start Sound Juicer.
This may display the following error popup:

--"No CD-ROM drives found: Sound Juicer could not find any CD-ROM
  drives to read.

Here is a sampling of the (very long) dmesg output:
