I tried doing an apport-collect, but it wouldn't let me, because the bug has been closed

The hardware being used is an Asus SDRW-08D1S-U USB CD/DVD drive connected to a Lenovo Thinkpad X201. The same drive works perfectly in Ubuntu for data CDs and DVDs, and in Windows XP for everything. But with audio CDs in Ubuntu, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Typically it will try repeatedly to mount the disc, and fail. Various combinations of the following error dialogs pop up, one after another: --"Unable to mount Audio Disc: Drive /dev/sr0 does not contain audio files" --"Unable to mount Audio Disc: Cannot find drive /dev/sr0" Sometimes the disc will appear to mount correctly (i.e., "Audio Disc" will appear on the desktop), then vanish when I start Sound Juicer. This may display the following error popup: --"No CD-ROM drives found: Sound Juicer could not find any CD-ROM drives to read.
