[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1730331] Re: ath10k_pci: firmware crashed!

2019-08-27 Thread Shahar Or
@mangoo-wpkg, that seems like valuable information upstream. Does anyone
know the procedure to get it upstream, please?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1852166] Re: [nouveau] Pixel pattern error at 120Hz or 144Hz, but 60Hz works (monitor MSI Optix G24C / model 1462)

2020-04-29 Thread Shahar Or
Update: in the motherboard settings, under I/O, there's an option "Video
Option ROM Type". This bug occurs when the value is set to UEFI. When
the value is set to Legacy, the bug does not occur. There's a third
possible value, "Disabled" or similar, which I did not try.

Excuse me ignorance. I know the value of a LAN adapter option ROM —
booting from network. But what is the value of a video card option ROM,
please? And since this motherboard does not have an integrated video
card, what does this option pertain to, please?

2019-11-03 Thread Shahar Or
Same symptoms. Keyboard backlights are on. Power button LED on. No
suspension. Turned off via power button long press.

Here's the output of `journalctl -b -1 -k`.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1846214] Re: Freezes instead of suspending, most times

2019-11-03 Thread Shahar Or
Thank you for the follow-up, Kai-Heng.

Before altering the value, I checked and `cat /sys/power/mem_sleep`
returned `s2idle [deep]`.

And now the command you suggested seems to have changed it to `[s2idle]
deep`.

I will post this and then run `# systemctl suspend`.

I noticed that the removal of old kernels does not uninstall the
kernel headers for that kernel, nor does it delete the folder in

Linux-headers are at about 130Mb i memory serves, this could cause a
lot of bloat if a lot of kernels have been installed (through regular
updates). Even if the kernel is removed to save space, the headers
  still remain. Is this intentional?

Thank you for following up, Daniel.

Same in an Ubuntu on Wayland session.

I tried setting dithering depth and dithering mode but it doesn't
change.

Should this be reported upstream?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1846214] Re: Freezes instead of suspending, most times

2019-12-10 Thread Shahar Or
Thank you for your suggestion, Kai-Heng. I did that in
`/etc/default/grub`. After editing I ran `sudo update-grub` without
trouble. I rebooted and made sure with `lsmod` that `nouveau` is not
loaded. And I still got a freeze.

Is there anything else we could investigate, please?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1856507] Re: [nvidia] Login screen doesn't show up after installing the Nvidia driver

2019-12-15 Thread Shahar Or
Thank you for the instructions, Daniel.

When nvidia-driver-435 is not installed, I can get to a console login
prompt from the login screen by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 through 6. But when
nvidia-driver-435 is installed and I press any of those, I get to a
black screen with a blinking cursor.

Any clues on that, please?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1846214] Re: Freezes instead of suspending, most times

2019-12-17 Thread Shahar Or
Thank you for the suggestion, Kai-Heng.

Tried with the nvidia-driver-435 installed, after reboot, and 2 out of 2
failures. I also made sure that `lsmod | grep nvidia` prints some
modules. Not sure which modules exactly I'm looking for. Perhaps looking
at some logs would be better, but I have a feeling that's sufficient.

What did we learn, please?

Thank you for following up, Kai-Heng.

To answer your question, I don't remember ever having a reliable suspend
in this system.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1783957] Re: Nouveau crashes at login with Kernel 4.15.0-29 on MacBook Air, so no login screen in a normal sequence

2018-12-05 Thread Shahar Or
Hey, I've just upgraded from bionic to cosmic and I seem to be hit by
this. Perhaps. What I experience is that while I have an encrypted root,
with the cosmic kernel I don't get a chance to input my passphrase.

Anything I can do to help debug this? I'm a web developer. I can use git
bisect.

Bug description:
I have a MacBook Air laptop which is running Linux (Kubuntu 16.04.5
LTS) with NVidia Graphics Card, KDE, Xorg, SDDM, and so on... Clean
and natural install, no funky custom kernel or drivers or anything...

Everything worked fine (with the 4.13.* kernel) until I've upgraded
all my packages (which included the "wonderful" 4.15.0-29 kernel,
  which broke my system).

Now, everytime I try to boot normally, it asks me for my disk password (I
have an encrypted LVM) and after that, guess what ?: blank screen. The login
screen does not appear.
I can switch the Terminals with Ctrl+Alt+Fx, however.

However, the same kernel, if I boot it in recovery mode and then I
select "Resume", the login screen appears, but it lags a little bit...

Needless to say, if I boot the older kernel (4.13), everything works
  perfectly.

I dug up some logs and found something like "sddm-greeter"
segmentation fault in nouveau_dri.so or something like this.

So, it looks like the new kernel doesn't quite seem to look eye-to-eye
  with nouveau drivers...

And no, I don't want the NVidia proprietary drivers because I get
along just perfectly with Nouveau on other machines, and I don't want
to reinstall nvidia drivers everytime I'm upgrading the kernel.

And yes, I already have "haveged" installed, to provide sufficient
entropy (I saw that the possible lack of entropy might be a problem in
  some cases)...

If I boot in recovery mode and then select "resume", everything works.

So, what is going on ?

  Any help would be appreciated...

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1659268] [NEW] Consistent boot time kernel panic

2017-01-25 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

I don't know to provide the necessary crash dump and any other things
that may be required to analyze this.

The crash occured consistently on every boot with this kernel.

I'm currently running 4.8.0-32-generic, which I still have installed.
It does not cause this crash.

I got this since first reboot after dist-upgrade to 17.04.

BTW, it is not clear how to properly report a boot time kernel panic, so I
asked this question:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1659268] Re: Consistent boot time kernel panic

2017-01-26 Thread Shahar Or
Joseph, regarding what kernel version this panic starts happening in, I know
two things:
In 4.8.0-32 it does not.
In 4.9.0-12 it does.

Is this enough information?

I will try the mainline build.

  Consistent boot time kernel panic

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I don't know to provide the necessary crash dump and any other things
that may be required to analyze this.

The crash occured consistently on every boot with this kernel.

I'm currently running 4.8.0-32-generic, which I still have installed.
It does not cause this crash.

I got this since first reboot after dist-upgrade to 17.04.

BTW, it is not clear how to properly report a boot time kernel panic, so I
asked this question:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1162494] Re: [Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-880GMA-USB3] suspend/resume failure

2013-08-04 Thread Shahar Or
Hi Brad, suspend still fails with 3.10.0-6-generic . It doesn't put the
system into full suspension. the fans still run. I shut off by long-
pressing the power. Trying to resume welcomes me with a single white
underscore (or what's it really called?).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 930447] Re: Unable to start Ubuntu 12.04 live CD with syslinux loader on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to bug in PAE kernel, initramfs or syslinux

2013-07-17 Thread Shahar Or
Hey,

Why don't you just make a patch, assume good faith on the part of the
maintainers and you don't have to explain the whole thing. Just write
something like "Hey, you forgot Pentium M processors that actually do
support PAE, although they don't declare it".

They will merge.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1030503] Re: 14e4:4315 No wifi (BCM4312) with proprietary driver

2013-09-06 Thread Shahar Or
Christopher,

I don't care that the proprietary driver doesn't work because the free
one seems to be working perfectly.

This bug does not affect me.

Blessings,
Shahar

Title:
14e4:4315 No wifi (BCM4312) with proprietary driver

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Interface is not created.

Wifi worked perfectly in precise and also in quantal until some recent
  upgrades.

It was discovered that the proprietary driver was in use. This seems
to have nothing to do with kernels. Once the proprietary driver was
removed - the Wifi was fine.

  Blessings,
  Shahar
