[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1629603] Re: Wifi stops working sporadically
Not a full bisection yet but I have narrowed it down: I looked at all kernel versions that had changes committed to iwlwifi and tested between them. I now have determined that I do not have this issue in the kernel version 4.4.4. I do have the issue in 4.4.6 and that is the next kernel version that has changes to iwlwifi so I guess that is the first bad version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629603 Title: Wifi stops working sporadically Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Since 16.04 I have been having trouble with WIFI stopping working daily and requiring a reboot to fix. This happens at worst multiple times a day and I dont know what could trigger it, the connection just stops working with no apparent reason and I cant get it back without a reboot. I did not have this problem with 15.10. My access point is ASUS RT-N12E_B1. I did not experience this issue when I was using a different access point for a few days so I'm not sure whether the cause is something specific to this wifi environment. Fix: Use current->real_cred instead of current->cred for getting the requester's uid and gid. Regression Potential: Minimal. current->cred and current->real_cred are the same except when credentials are overridden, thus current->real_cred contains the same credentials that autofs had been using prior to the change which overrides the credentials during automount. --- Hello, I have run into a bug relating autofs's parameter substitution (e.g. UID, GID, etc) with kernel versions 4.4.0-38 and proposed 4.4.0-40. Kernel version 4.4.0-28 does things correctly but testing intermediate kernel versions is hard due to earlier bugs related with fs's. Incorrect parameter substitution makes CIFS mounting with variable credentials impossible. Wat was expected: $UID in autofs map are substituted by the uid of the user that starts the auto-mounting process. What actually happens: Root's uid (0) is substituted instead. This ill parameter substitution likely caused by recent fixes resolving permissions problems for nfs/cifs mounts and dfs referrals (#1626112 and #1612135). And possibly the fix 'fs: Call d_automount with the filesystems creds' but that is a wild guess. Furthermore; playing with the force_standard_program_map_env settings in autofs.conf and prefixing variables with 'AUTOFS_' does not solve anything. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1505067] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4001nf] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller
madbiologist: I'm currently running 4.4.0-38-generic and while sound is working, it is not as loud an clear as in Windows, on the same device (I dual boot). Do you think that would be fixed with kernel 4.9 ? I'm not sure to understand this "two speaker outputs" story. Does that mean that the laptop has two physical sets of speakers but only one is activated on current kernel ? That would explain the low volume. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1505067 Title: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4001nf] Audio broken, broadwell-U audio controller Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: On Ubuntu vivid (15.04), Audio driver on HP Spectre x360 doesn't work. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1630459] Re: Ralink rt5390 unstable connection on ubuntu 16.04.1
Julio Palazón, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 4.4 to 4.8 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this good commit has been identified, it may be reviewed for backporting. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of bisecting. It is most helpful that after the fix commit (not kernel version) has been identified, you then mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream-4.8 needs-reverse-bisect -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1630459 Title: Ralink rt5390 unstable connection on ubuntu 16.04.1 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 with all updates. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1629197] Re: Suspend not working
This issue didnt occur on an earlier kernel of never had an issue on 14.04 and an earlier kernel official of 16.04. I don't know which one. I've only ever updated through the official ubuntu repos. After I updated to kernel 4.4.0.38 I started having the suspend issue. Trying to boot into all the old previously installed kernels via grub didnt fix the issue. I also tried to uninstall the 4.4.0.38 and that stuffed my install forcing me to boot from a 16.04 livecd and chroot my os partion so I could update the kernel bandack to 4 4.0.38 and get it booting again. Right now I'm going between 4.4.0.38 from the ubuntu repos and whatever upstream mainline kernel you suggest. One issue I noticed testing the upstream kernels is the zfs kernel module doesn't load so i have to rollback to 4.4.0.38 each time. A little annoying unfortunately. Hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629197 Title: Suspend not working Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm running a fresh installation of 16.04 running the latest updates. When I `pm-suspend` the computer remains powered on but is completely unresponsive. There is no signal going to my monitor and I can't enter a tty shell or ctrl+alt+del to restart. I'm forced to press the the physical reset button. This happens every time I perform a suspend. I can shutdown and reboot at the moment. I really wish DSDT loading was still available, I could have attempted to fix this myself with a patched bios (if a bung ACPI call is the culprit). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1631614] [NEW] Installer ignored that ntfs partition was hibernated, corruption after boot.
Public bug reported: I recently attempted to dual-boot Ubuntu 16.04 (from a live USB) and Windows 10. I say "attempted" because Windows 10 did not survive the process of resizing. The Ubuntu is fine. The specific chain of events, as far as I have reconstructed: 1. I shut down Windows 10, but accidentally hibernated it instead. 2. I resized the ntfs partition in the installer. It merrily did so. 3. Later, I booted up Windows 10 (from hibernation), but the resize made it, understandably, insane. I believe at this point Windows 10 corrupted its own partition. 4. I rebooted Windows 10, and lo, it wouldn't boot, because important files now no longer existed. 5. Attempting to mount the ntfs partition made mount complain that it was hibernated, at which point I realized what had happened. My apologies if this is the wrong package to complain about (ntfsprogs instead?), but I believe the installer should at least warn about this. ** Affects: linux-ntfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "partman's log file." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631614/+attachment/4757289/+files/partman -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-ntfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631614 Title: Installer ignored that ntfs partition was hibernated, corruption after boot. The grub menu is available and works, the kernel loads, the initrd step works, and then it hangs hard and requires power cycling. The required information for a kernel bug report can be found in Bug #1432659, from the original shipped F.23 bios. I obviously can't attach information with the F.26 bios loaded. I can confirm that the bios update worked, and I have repeated it twice. HP diagnostics give the system a green light, and I can boot to FreeDOS as normal. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1631678] [NEW] Build in display doesn't show a screen
Public bug reported: I'm using UX21A Asus Zenbook Prime. When I connected HDMI socket to an external display and turn on the laptop, Ubuntu didn't show build in display even it said display was recognized and activated. It happened on Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint 18 Mint even when they were started as Live USB booting. When I switched off the build in display and reactivate it through Display Setting GUI, it started showing. But with xrandr command, it didn't. I unplugged HDMI and turn on the laptop and plug HDMI again after confirmed the BIOS Logo, the problem didn't show up. The situation I confirmed on several environment were all the same. It suppose to be caused by a problem which the laptop considers the external display as primary one. So currently, I unplug the HDMI when I start it up. I also asked in askubuntu.com but it doesn't seem I could get the feedback. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1629197] Re: Suspend not working
It may have been 4.4.0.31 but booting to that via grub showed the same issue so i think it may a change in more than just the kernel that's caused this. Please note the only kernels installed on my machine now are 4.4.0.38. I went down a path of elimination a week ago trying to determine which was the good kernel. I did this by removing the lastest kernel the testing the previous and repeating this process until I had only 4.4.0.21 on my machine. This put ubuntu in a bad state where the network keyboard and mouse failed to work even in safe mode. To fix that i had to boot a livecd and then chroot to install the 4.4.0.38 kernel. Sorry if this sounds confusuing. Few forums suggested that upgrade to kernel 4.7 fixes some of the issues so I though to give it a try. Firs of all I tried to update my laptop and everything went well. Performance also improved and slow shutdown and issues of freezing during shut down also seems to haven't occurred atleast until now. Later decided to upgrade the kernel on my main work computer as well. Here again I see improvement in behaviour of my computer but problem is I see some errors on the boot screen. I have also attached a screen shot, please check. Never noticed this issue with previous versions of Linux Mint or after upgrading kernel in the past. Seemed like issue with CD/DVD drive. I took out the disk out of the DVD drive and error screen seemed to be vanished. I inserted a blank CD in the drive and error reappeared but number of error lines reduced. I want to keep the disk in the drive which I always had in the past without any issue. Please look into the issue. At boot-time, the kernel will panic somewhere in 'blk_mq_register_disk', a snippet of the track is below, and full panic dump is attached. The panic dump was collected via serial console, as the kernel panics so early that we cannot kdump it. [2.650512] [] blk_mq_register_disk+0xa6/0x160 [2.656675] [] blk_register_queue+0xb4/0x160 [2.662661] [] add_disk+0x1ce/0x490 [2.667869] [] loop_add+0x1f0/0x270 This seems somewhat similar to https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/3/16/40, but the trace is not identical. We discovered this issue when we were experimenting with linux- generic-lts-xenial from trusty-updates on a 14.04 installation. When we installed it, 4.4.0-15 was the current package, and it worked fine and provided a large amount of improvements for us. Background security updates installed 4.4.0-18, and this updated and grub and became the default kernel. On a reboot, the node panics about 2 seconds in, resulting in a machine in a dead state. We were able to boot a rescue image and roll bac kto 4.4.0-15, which works nicely. We currently have pinning on 4.4.0-15 to prevent this problem from coming back, but would prefer to see the problem fixed. I'll attach lspci, lshw, and dmidecode for our hardware as well, but this is happening on pretty vanilla supermicro nodes. We are able to consistently reproduce it on our hardware. It is not reproducible in EC2, only on metal. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1294087] Re: [LENOVO 20266] hibernate/resume failure
Yuv - we don't want you to test the latest Trusty mainline kernel. I'm not sure there is even such a thing. We want you to test the latest mainline kernel, without any trusty/utopic suffix (currently 4.8.1). This is because the most useful action is to test the most recent kernel version. However, you have different hardware than the original reporter, so it is unlikely that you are experiencing the exact same issue. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1446897] Re: Cougar 200K keyboard not working properly with Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 motherboard
Denis Volkov (paralloid), it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal: ubuntu-bug linux Please feel free to subscribe me to it. For more on why this is helpful, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Attachment removed: "hardinfo_report.html" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1446897/+attachment/4757852/+files/hardinfo_report.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446897 Title: Cougar 200K keyboard not working properly with Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 motherboard Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Keyboard working properly on Intel laptops and during the boot sequence (ie I can use CTRL+ALT+DEL before linux boots). Once in linux ALT, CTRL and SHIFT on both left and right and Windows Key returns keycode 50 (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L). CAPS returns keycode 66 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L). Tried various IOMMU combinations as the mobo has some issues with Linux and IOMMU. Collected logs are with IOMMU enabled in BIOS and 'iommu=allowed amd_iommu=on iommu=pt iommu=1' passed to grub. --- ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: marius 926 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: marius 926 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-11-27 (180 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
