Just found out that akonadi was not starting on my system. I've removed
~/.local/share/akonadi and started akonadi again and kalendar came back to
life. Guess this is a duplicate of bug 445832 then.

Bug ID: 459670
   Summary: Cursor theme changes to Adwaita when interacting with
GTK applications
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux

Cursor changing theme

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Open any GTK application and click on a dropdown or foldout or open a context
menu by right clicking.

OBSERVED RESULT
See the attached video

ADDITONAL INFORMATION
This seems to have been introduced with the fix of bug 458865 and has already
been mentioned there, but since this is not the same issue I'm opening a new
report. This happens both for application installed through the package
manager, as well as flatpaks. Setting the cursor theme from the system settings
fixes the issue for the active session, but the issue reappears when
restarting.

[kwin] [Bug 460678] New: Animation speed affects window resize speed

2022-10-18 Thread Sandro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460678

Bug ID: 460678
   Summary: Animation speed affects window resize speed
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.26.1
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

Resizing windows with different animation speeds

SUMMARY
The speed of resizing a window seems to be affected by the animation speed set
in system settings. When the animation speed is slower than instant, this makes
resizing windows feel laggy in my opinion. This gets more apparent when
disabling translucency in the desktop effects. I'm not entirely sure whether
this is a bug or expected behavior.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set animation speed in system settings to instant
2. Resize a window
3. Set animation speed to medium
4. Resize a window, observe window resize effect lagging behind mouse cursor

OBSERVED RESULT
Window size updates slower when the animation speed is not set to instant.

EXPECTED RESULT
Expected window to update instantly, no matter which animation speed is set.

In case this is expected behavior, is there any way to set animation speed of
specific animations in kwin, so that I could make the windows resize instantly
without setting instant animation speed for all animations?

journalctl did not show anything suspicious especially for kwin_wayland.

I noticed another strange behavior though: When connecting the second time I
get a white screen and when I move my mouse onto it, it jumps to my second
screen as it would be somehow confusing the screens.

journalctl also generates lots of messages like:

I'm experiencing the same issue and can answer your questions. This issue did
not exist on Plasma 5.27 Wayland for me. I've done the test with a Logitech
M500s (up to 4000 dpi) and a Logitech B100 (they don't list a dpi for it in
their specs, but it's a typical 9$ cheapo mouse, so no high dpi). The issue
exists with both devices. I've tested with Helldivers 2 and Cyberpunk running
through Proton. Valheim (native Linux) does not have this issue.

I am having the same problem also on nixos.

kcm-touchpad-list-devices lists the touchpad properly but the settings
application does not. It still works on NixOS 21.05 which uses the same LTS
kernel version. I am not sure which library update broke it and a hint would be
appreciated.

picture of the error message

When trying to open a desktop file which contains an invalid TryExec like
``TryExec=nixGLIntel wezterm`` KDE presents the user with ``Unknown Error Code
100`` instead of explaining the situation properly. I believe this should be
handled better by KDE.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a Desktop file named wezterm.desktop with the content:
```
[Desktop Entry]
Name=WezTerm
Comment=Wez's Terminal Emulator
Keywords=shell;prompt;command;commandline;cmd;
Icon=org.wezfurlong.wezterm
TryExec=nixGLIntel wezterm
Exec=nixGLIntel wezterm
Type=Application
Categories=System;TerminalEmulator;Utility;
Terminal=false
```
2. Open the directory in Dolphin
3. Try to execute the Desktop file
4. See the not describing error message

OBSERVED RESULT

See attachment

EXPECTED RESULT

Tell the user that the binary "nixGLIntel wezterm" does not exist or properly
handle spaces.

I believe I have this problem too. Visible behaviour is exactly the same as in
video uploaded in Description. Adding more detail here to help with
diagnose/fix:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open System Settings, go to Online accounts
2. Press "Add new Account" button
3. Select Google

OBSERVED:
* In GUI, the screen goes back to "No accounts added" (If there are none
prior), and "Add new Account" button again. A "Silent" fail.
* When running systemsettings5 in terminal, error output at moment of clicking
"Add New Account" is as follows:

"google"
Looking for plugin ""
Starting auth session with "oauth2"
Error storing identity: "Message recipient disconnected from message bus
without replying"
5
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply"
"Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying"
5
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply"
"Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying"
Error:
 "Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying"

EXPECTED
* View appears for entering Google account credentials

This occurs on KDE Neon 20.04/5.20.0

In my case, I can confirm that kio-gdrive, kaccounts-integration and
kaccounts-providers all installed. I'm unaware if more is required for Google
integration to work.

[KAccounts] [Bug 427063] Can't add Google account in system settings on last stable KDE Neon

2020-10-18 Thread Sandro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427063

--- Comment #3 from Sandro  ---
Going further down this rabbit hole, I found there are signond segfaults in
dmemsg that correlate with whenever I click on "Add new Account" in Online
Accounts section of systemsettings. It points to an error in
libQt5Core.so.5.15.0, and looking into that further (I didn't feel like setting
up to stacktrace the error on my system directly), it seems it's an error with
qt 5.15 that OpenSuse have fixed in recent months to address this. Should this
be re-categorized as a Kde Neon bug to address an upstream problem? For
reference: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172904

Please explain why this is marked as duplicate? The steps to reproduce aren't
remotely similar. This is a problem that has already been addressed upstream
in signond, as I eluded to in my prior comment.

[KAccounts] [Bug 427063] Can't add Google account in system settings on last stable KDE Neon

2020-10-26 Thread Sandro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427063

--- Comment #9 from Sandro  ---
Sadly, they're both incorrectly tagged as duplicate then. Both the original
description of this bug, and #427063 do not properly list steps to reproduce.
Please use my steps in my first comment here as reference. This problem only
began to manifest with qt 5.15 which is a dependency of Plasma 5.20. I do not
know where this bug should be redirected, but it is a KDE Neon (packaging?)
bug. It is not a Plasma bug.

The problem in #420280 is different, and may well still occur later in the
workflow once this is resolved. I'll try to clarify the specifics of this bug,
and how it differs from #420280 using sequential steps of what I assume is the
expected behaviour with some commentary:

1. Open System Settings and navigate to Online Accounts.
2. Select "+ Add New Account"
3. Choose "Google"

--> This is where #427063 is observed. This triggers a segfault in
libqt5core.so which can be traced to signond. See [1] and [2] for more, it's
been fixed upstream and basically requires KDE Neon to do the same as opensuse
did.

*** Once #427063 is fixed, the workflow would continue to #4 below.

4. A new window appears prompting to enter Google credentials.
5. Enter username, and password (Nature of this depends on how it's presented
in the web view from Google)
6. Upon submission, the window simply goes blank.

--> THIS is where #420280 occurs.

I'd like to add some info I found when I was troubleshooting this bug. This
seems to be a KDE Neon bug (packaging?), and may or may not be present
elsewhere, but i imagine that to be out of scope if we already can confirm it
is not a Plasma bug.

It was a bug in OpenSuse TW as well [1], and was fixed a couple of months back.
 At least for TW, rebuilding signond with a patch (since merged) for this MR
[2] solved this problem. So while it's an upstream bug vis-a-vis Plasma, it
should not be closed because a bug to resolve this in KDE Neon is still valid.

To answer the question as you asked:
Source is available at gitlab for signond [1]. You'll also need to use
signon-plugin-oauth2 [2] - thanks to Nicolas Fella for uncovering that.

[1] https://gitlab.com/accounts-sso/signond
[2] https://gitlab.com/accounts-sso/signon-plugin-oauth2

However, to answer your initial question, this is _not_ a "fix" - I don't
recommend running it on your daily driver. You have to break your package
system, which means spending even more time trying work around that problem.

If you're still interested, be prepared to do a bunch of troubleshooting build
failures, as well as resolving the (many) broken packages (which you're on your
own for btw). Email me and I'll share as much as I can of what i did - I didn't
track/document all of the troubleshooting I did to make it work. It is way out
of scope to have that laid out here.

In Comment #17 , I linked to where I opened a bug against the upstream signond

sourced from ubuntu so they need to take action. The KDE team has been nothing
if not responsive concerning this. Unfortunately the package maintainers have
shown less enthusiasm.

To be clear, regarding my last comment, this is because it's a Neon package

It's not a Plasma bug.

Translucent pop-up in opaque panel

SUMMARY
When setting a panel to opaque it's pop-ups also become opaque, as expected.
When restarting the plasma shell or rebooting, all pop-ups become translucent,
even if they're in an opaque panel. This might relate to Bug 461459, but
affects all pop-ups and is not fixed by opening a fullscreen window.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a panel and set it to opaque
2. Add a widget with a popup to the panel (e.g. digital clock or notifications)
3. Restart plasma shell or reboot the system

OBSERVED RESULT
After the reboot, all the pop-ups of the panel are translucent.

EXPECTED RESULT
Pop-ups should remain opaque

What I'm trying to say is, when resizing a window on X11 with an animation
speed slower than instant, the window geometry lags behind the mouse pointer.
I'm not saying that animation speed directly affects window resize speed, I
simply wasn't sure. Did you take a look at the video I uploaded with the
report? I think it's more obvious there.

[plasmashell] [Bug 464428] New: System Tray pop-ups are centered on multi monitor setup

2023-01-17 Thread Sandro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464428

Bug ID: 464428
   Summary: System Tray pop-ups are centered on multi monitor
setup
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.26.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: System Tray
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 155391

Pop-up appears centered on screen

SUMMARY
When using a multi monitor setup where the monitor that has the system tray
applet is not the first monitor (from the left), the popup appears in the
center of the screen, even though the system tray is on the right side of the
screen (see image). I've recently installed Framework version 5.102.0 and this
didn't happen before, so I guess this is a regression.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure two monitors where the monitor on the right has a panel with the
system tray applet
2. Click on anything in the system tray that opens a pop-up (e.g. audio,
clipboard, network manager)

OBSERVED RESULT
The pop-up opens in the center of the screen

EXPECTED RESULT
The pop-up should open above the system tray applet

SUMMARY
When searching in krunner, baloorunner crashes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
When searching for the term "heroic" this happens most of the time, but not
always. This also happens for other search terms, but way less often. I've
attached a screenshot of krunners search results in case this is relevant.

I noticed that baloo complains about a corrupted database when I run it from
the terminal. I was able to fix this and the crash by cleaning baloos cache and
restarting indexing with:

balooctl purge
balooctl enable

I'm leaving this bug open because I think baloo shouldn't crash when the
database gets corrupted. It probably should inform the user about it or purge
and re-index automatically.

[kde] [Bug 379794] New: Graphical errors changing users

2017-05-13 Thread Sandro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379794

Bug ID: 379794
   Summary: Graphical errors  changing users
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: alcerb1...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

It's over a year that I always have this problem:

1) Use Funtoo Linux "Stable" 64 bits (which is pretty much identical to
Gentoo).
2) The problem occurs during the "user change"
3) example: a) within with my user in plasma-5.8.5; Then use "change user" to
start the session of the user; Finished the job I'm leaving the session of
II utesnte. In 90% of cases I get serious graphics errors so much that I have
to restart Xorg, thus losing the work of the first user.

My system is based on Asus Z97-AR, core i7 "Haswell 4771", 16GB RAM (memtest is
ok) SSD 250 GiB + HDD 1 TiB.

I'm using Gentoo's nvidia drivers

Sandro @ ci74771ht ~ $ emerge -pqv nvidia-drivers
[Ebuild R] x11 drivers / nvidia-drivers-378.13-r2 USE = "X acpi driver gtk3 kms
(multilib) static-libs tools uvm -compat -pax_kernel -wayland" ABI_X86 = "32
(64) (-x32)

I also noticed that there is also a PCBSD with KDE, in PCBSD the "change user"
option does not appear in the logout menu.

Now i do not know ... and: is a problem with kde? Sddm? Or to nvidia drivers?
 Or both?

Thanks for the attention _'_

This only seems to happen when the panel is smaller than the width of the
widget. For some reason the widget aligns itself to the right of the panel when
this is the case, causing this issue.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 506182] New: Sending files does not work in NAT64 networks

2025-06-25 Thread Sandro
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506182

Bug ID: 506182
   Summary: Sending files does not work in NAT64 networks
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdeconnect
  Version First 25.04.2
   Reported In:
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: sandro.jaec...@gmail.com
CC: andrew.g.r.hol...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Sharing a file via kdeconnect on a NAT64 network where the phone supports NAT64
and the laptop not never finishes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Join a NAT64 network
2. Pair a Laptop and a Phone in kdeconnect
3. Try sharing a file from the phone to the laptop
4. The notification appears but the file is never send

OBSERVED RESULT
After the notification nothing happens. strace shows the following:

```
[pid  9509] ppoll([{fd=5, events=POLLIN}, {fd=20, events=POLLIN}, {fd=21,
events=POLLIN}, {fd=22, events=POLLIN}, {fd=23, events=POLLIN}, {fd=24,
```
172.20.72.12 is the IP of the device doing NAT64 using jool. kdeconnect should
probably communicate that the laptop should use IPv6 if the phone uses nat64 or
general prefer IPv6 if available.

EXPECTED RESULT
File to be shared

Do you have avahi enabled for ipv6? This is by default not the case because it
makes many applications run into timeouts eg. printing which then takes an
unnecessarily long amount of time.

--- Comment #15 from Sandro Knauß  ---
The current class hierarchy has nothing to do with representation of a specific
 "mime"-type. And in this hierarchy AttachmentPart is a subclass of TextPart,
because AttachmentPart has every property of a TextPart.
That's why isTextPart is true for every attachment.

KMailTransport (the library that is actually storing the password) is using
KWallet directly to store passwords, but using QKeyChain to read the passwords.
For a clean KDE environment QKeychain will use KWallet, but for other
environments it is using an different backend. That's why only people are
affected that are not running a Plasma desktop. You can treat QtKeyChain by
environemt variables as workaround: KDE_SESSION_VERSION=5 and
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=kde
or look at the decision path:
