This means that some features (searching in file content for example) will not work anymore, but for a computer like yours that doesn't have a lot of memory, it makes sense to disable Baloo. You haven't said if that helped or not, but I assume it didn't. Is that correct? Regarding startup: you can uninstall Akonadi, but this will also remove KMail, KOrganizer and a few other PIM applications. If you don't use these, that would be a good option.
