2023-03-04 Thread Edip
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466816

Bug ID: 466816
Summary: feature request: breeze LIM like application menu by
default
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Breeze
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: window decoration
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: medip...@gmail.com
CC: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org, uhh...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

i think this should come to breeze window decoration on plasma 6 (with wayland
support, because breeze lim not working on wayland), and i think it should be
customizable like sierrabreezeenhanced

and if this will come to breeze i think you should add some options to global
menu widget, like only shown when maximize window etc.

this is the video where i show the bug

SUMMARY
***
When you add multiple panels on the top (maybe everywhere, I haven't tested
it), it leaves a space equal to the sum of the panel heights (for me, 75px,
three panels and 25px each one). It doesn't affect normal apps, but it does
affect Yakuake, Krunner, etc., and also affects files on the desktop (you can't
put any files in this 75px area) as shown in the video below
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. add new panel in the top
2. align it to right (as i tested, there is no matter where the panel is
aligned, the number and height is matter)
3. change panel width (to allow you to add new panel)
4. add new panel also in the top
5. align it to left
6. change panel width (optionally)
7. you can add new panel also
OBSERVED RESULT
(i have 3 panels, and set 25px height for each panel) krunner, yakuake start
75px below from the screen

EXPECTED RESULT
krunner, yakuake start 25px below from the screen

You can use xprop command:
1- open your system settings and terminal
2- execute xprop
3- move your mouse into the system settings app
4- see if your cursor is changing to plus(+) sign
5- if its changing to plus (+) sign then this means your application is running
under xwayland

Someone reproduced it on opensuse tumbleweed and neon testing, it's not from

sway-with-plasmashell-panels-positioned-correct

Today I was trying to fix this issue because its so annoying no one was trying
to solve it

i wasnt able to solve it yet, though. I found up that it looks like the issue
is not related to plasmashell; looks like it's related to kwin's implementation
of the layer-shell protocol. I'm not sure, but I think it's that KWin doesn't
handle the exclusiveZone correctly.

shortly what i did:
1- i cloned kde-builder and i ran kde-builder workspace to build plasma, then i
logged in to plasma development (wayland) session

2- i cloned https://github.com/wmww/gtk-layer-shell/ and fiddled around
gtk-layer-demo

3- then i created 3 panels (on the left side of the screen, all of them are fit
content; one is top, one is bottom, and one is center aligned).

4- i logged out and then logged into Sway and ran `plasmashell` command in
Sway.

5- The panels were correctly positioned (included in the attachment)

6- i have started to try to read and understand the code/logic behind the
panels and layer-shell implementation in kwin

it's not the same bug
this one introduced after commit
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/commit/8e2401e6c613ae9b8b689ee97c2670be6d3db9c2
. The calculation in the commit assumes that all panels that are always visible
(so assumes all the panels stack, which isnt the case when at least one of the
panels is autohide)

A way to screen sharing multiple windows instead of just one. For example, i
should be able to share my browser and my code editor(they both will be shown)
without sharing the entire screen.

There is a good example from macos (see attachment), i can share both of my
windows to discord but not my entire screen

Yep the app can but most app developers won't spend time and won't do that
(telegram, discord, etc)

Yes, that's what I'm requesting :)

This is intended behavior, you can set custom size to your panel for avoiding
overlapping.
