[kwin] [Bug 502630] New: Screen Mirroring doesn't take monitor rotation into account

2025-04-09 Thread Will Styler
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502630

Bug ID: 502630
Summary: Screen Mirroring doesn't take monitor rotation into
account
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: git-stable-Plasma/6.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: multi-screen
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: w...@savethevowels.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

This is a bit of an odd one. I have a device (GPD Pocket 4) which has a display
which is wired to be vertical, used horizontally. As a result, I need to use
screen rotation to get the proper aspect ratio horizontally. Kwin does fine
with this, using display settings.

However, when I connect a second monitor, everything goes off the rails.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a display which is properly oriented only when rotated.
2. Connect a second monitor which is naturally oriented.
3. Hit "Mirror Screens"

EXPECTED

The built in display mirrors the external display, letterboxing where needed,
with both displays oriented as they would be if selected individually, at a
shared resolution.

OBSERVED RESULT

Depending on rotation in display settings, the 16:10 internal display is
mirrored as a 10:16 display which is oriented correctly (but aggressively
letterboxed, and in an aspect ratio not reproducible on the second display) OR,
the screens are mirrored properly, but the built-in display is oriented
according to the natural (right side down) rotation of the screen, and
letterboxing takes up the majority of the screen.

Put differently, there appears to be no permutation of display settings which
results in both the correct orientation of the screen, and the correct,
horizontal is wider aspect ratio. You can choose one, or the other, and the
Meta+P mirror displays command gives the 10:16 version, which is arguably the
worse of the two. Changing display orientation at the kernel level does not
appear to fix this, although it does make the LUKS unlock orient properly.
Thanks!

Scratch that, looks like it's intended on latest kde since it handles
tonemapping more heavily now, set it to 203 for a more-or-less accurate look

Thank you for the bug report!

Debian advises users to not submit bugs upstream
(https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting), and Plasma 5.27.5 is no longer
eligible for support or maintenance from KDE. It's possible that the issue
exists only in Debian at this point.

Could you report the bug to Debian using the report bug utility
(https://packages.debian.org/stable/utils/reportbug)? If necessary, the
maintainer of the package will forward the bug upstream.
Thanks for understanding!

Thanks again!

Hi

Good news : the Qt5 and Qt6 build + Opencv with CUDA support are ready on the

Bad news: kimageformat Qt5 and Qt6 do not pass. It's the same error. I don't

[plasmashell] [Bug 502631] New: kded6 segfaults when trying to connect to VPN with embedded webview

2025-04-09 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502631

Bug ID: 502631
Summary: kded6 segfaults when trying to connect to VPN with
embedded webview
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.4
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mira...@mirandastreeter.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I have an openconnect VPN I use to connect to work. This involves using SAML
credentials to supply a cookie for authentication. These credentials are
entered in an SSO webview. Since the most recent Plasma update, it no longer
renders, instead creating a hall of mirrors effect until kded6 eventually
crashes with a segfault. See attached files.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click "connect" on plasma-nm VPN connection
2. Click "Login" to open the SSO embedded webview

OBSERVED RESULT
You get a hall of mirrors effect and kded6 crashes

EXPECTED RESULT
The SSO embedded webview renders properly

Manufacturer: ASUS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I labelled this under "generic-crash" because I'm not sure which component is
at fault - feel free to move it.

I thought this may have been due to a webkit2gtk4 update, but rolling that back
doesn't resolve the issue.

I thought it might be openconnect itself, but that hasn't had an update since
december last year.

This first started when Tuesday's KDE/QT/Plasma packages were updated (the
release on the 2nd of April). I can confirm that rolling back everything to
April 1st resolves the issue:

m.lib is the math library... under Linux, not under Windows. There is probably
a mess in the cmalekists.txt somewhere in kimageformat module.

SUMMARY
Some items under the Filename tab do not respond to their keyboard accelerator,
and tabbing from other input boxes doesn't work correctly. While Prefix and
Suffix work Filename and Extension do not. Tabbing starting from the Prefix box
sends me to the Number of digits box, then up to the Start index box, and then
down to the find and replace button. It should be tabbing through the items
inside the Filename box before going over to the Number box.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Highlight a bunch of items in Dolphin and select Rename with Krename.
2. Press Alt+N or try to tab down to the Filename box

OBSERVED RESULT
Alt+N produces no result. Tabbing Sends me outside of the filename box and into

I didn't even knew I could see the keyboard layout without the country's flag
being listed in "Layouts", how do I do that?

My issue is that no matter what distro I use, my country's flag is not

I have discovered that if I open an image, do an operation such as rotate or
crop (even without actually cropping), then I can use the annotate tool without
causing a coredump. In fact I can then do multiple anotates, and saves.

I'm still on the 550.144 driver (X11). I haven't moved on due to a bug with
locking the screen (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483094)

So there are different distro-specific issues?
- On Arch, the keyboard layout you set in the installer doesn't appear in the
KCM
- On Fedora Kinoite, the keyboard layout you set in the installer does appear
in the KCM, but it's missing its flag

Do I have that right?

Laptop - primary

The app needs to not be pinned to the task manager, I used Kalk
With a default panel on the monitor, when I minimize the app, I see it on both
the monitor and laptop displays in their taskbars
Do you have the task managers both set to "Show only tasks: From current
screen"? I tested with this setting and it did the right thing
When adding a default panel, I saw the task manager by default has that
unchecked

I tried setting the task manager on one display to "From current screen", and
then both. They behaved as I expected

[Discover] [Bug 502605] Use of word "fetching" unclear

2025-04-09 Thread John Veness
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502605

Well, maybe. I can probably easily enough change the main body text from
"Fetching updates..." to "Checking for updates...", and similarly change
"Updates (Fetching...)" to "Updates (Checking...)" in the category list.

But I'm not sure how to (or even whether to) detect when updates are being
downloaded (or installed), in order to put "Updates (Downloading...)" (or
"Updates (Installing...)") in the category list.

Also, if we're making this change, I think the "Refresh" button should be
changed to "Check for Updates".

What do you think?

[kwin] [Bug 459735] Tabbox can show a different icon from the Plasma Task Manager, which is weird and confusing

2025-04-09 Thread Shmerl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459735

To bring the point from another bug:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460403

At least task switcher could have parity with task manager and use the same
logic, since currently they don't.

In particular, Task Manager reads StartupWMClass value from the used .desktop
launcher which allows setting it to what you need to make sure the icon shows
up correct (works for example for games launched from Wine). But task switcher
doesn't do it, showing generic Wayland icon.

That at least could be improved for Task Switcher too.

AlexB changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|FIXED |---
 Status|NEEDSINFO |REPORTED

I have made further investigations and I think I have found the root cause for
the issue.

Scenario 1:
---

Preparations:

mkdir somefolder000
mkdir somefolder000/somesubfolder01
mkdir somefolder000/anothersubfolder02

Works fine:

kate somefolder000/somesubfolder01
kate somefolder000/anothersubfolder02
kate somefolder000

Scenario 2:
---

Preparations:

mkdir anotherfolder001
mkdir anotherfolder001/somesubfolder03
mkdir anotherfolder001/anothersubfolder04

Works fine:

kate anotherfolder001

Does not work as expected, Kate opens anotherfolder001 instead of its
subfolders:

kate anotherfolder001/somesubfolder03
kate anotherfolder001/anothersubfolder04

Investigations:
-

Kate stores information about previously "opened folders" in
/home/$USER/.local/share/kate/anonymous.katesession file.

Under [Plugin:kateprojectplugin:] information about previously opened projects
and folders stored. From previous 2 examples following information is stored
(newline added for readability):

{"data":{"files":[{"directory":"./"}]\\,"name":"somesubfolder01"}\\,"path":"/home/someuser/somefolder000/somesubfolder01"},

{"data":{"files":[{"directory":"./"}]\\,"name":"anothersubfolder02"}\\,"path":"/home/someuser/somefolder000/anothersubfolder02"},

{"data":{"files":[{"directory":"./"}]\\,"name":"somefolder000"}\\,"path":"/home/someuser/somefolder000"},

{"data":{"files":[{"directory":"./"}]\\,"name":"anotherfolder001"}\\,"path":"/home/someuser/anotherfolder001"}

In Scenario 1 first subfolders were opened in Kate, then the belonging root
folder "somefolder000" => This have worked.

In Scenario 2 first root folder "anotherfolder001" was opened in Kate. Trial to
open any subfolder of anotherfolder001 will not work then.

Conclusion: I suppose the issue is that Kate (or kateprojectplugin) searches
for matching path string or sub-string in anonymous.katesession under
[Plugin:kateprojectplugin:] and opens first matching path (which could be only
a sub-string). This is why
/home/someuser/anotherfolder001
will be opened in Scenario 2 instead of
/home/someuser/anotherfolder001/somesubfolder03.

[plasmashell] [Bug 499447] Remember wallpapers per physical monitor or resolution

2025-04-09 Thread Karl-Johan Karlsson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499447

I've been running on Wayland previously, but yesterday I switched to X to
escape a display bug in Firefox 137.
I was connected to 2*1920x1200 monitors.
I suspended the laptop (to RAM), disconnected from the docking station, and
today I connected to 1*2560x1440 monitor and resumed.
The 2560x1440 monitor showed a 1920x1200 wallpaper and a thick black border.
So Wayland or X11 makes no difference for this issue.

Yeah that's gonna account for it. Your theme claims it's Breeze, which has
confused the system quite terribly. This is a theme configuration issue.

[plasmashell] [Bug 486304] With monospace UI font, Plasmoid license viewer cannot scroll to bottom of license until window is resized

2025-04-09 Thread cwo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486304

I can reproduce this with non-monospace fonts as well.

The problem is the width - if the text wraps, it's broken. (the joys of
TextEdit word wrap...)

The SelectableLabel that contains the text has the correct implicitHeight (and
contentHeight)
The OverlaySheet has the correct contentHeight
The ScrollView in the OverlaySheet has the correct contentHeight
The ScrollView's Flickable (contentHeight) is too short
The Flickable's contentItem (implicitHeight) is too short
The Flickable's contentItem's childrenRect has the correct size again.

It happens right at the end. If I forcibly overwrite the Flickable's
contentHeight it works (but if I do it earlier with a binding it gets
overwritten).

I have no idea why this happens. Might be an issue in Kirigami or in Qt. I
don't think it's a problem in Plasma's use of OverlaySheet.

[plasmashell] [Bug 502626] New: visual artefacts on screen after screen turns back on

2025-04-09 Thread Vadym Krevs
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502626

Bug ID: 502626
Summary: visual artefacts on screen after screen turns back on
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: vkr...@yahoo.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

I have configured my monitor's power settings to automatically turn off (go
blank) after 5 minutes (System Settings->Power Management, Display and
Brightness, Turn off screen: 5 min).

After upgrading my openSUSE 15.6 desktop to Plasma 6.3.4 from OBS, there are
visual artefacts on the screen after it comes back on - as a result of a key
press or mouse move - after turning off after a period of inactivity. See
attached screenshot - red arrows point to the "artrfacts". If I perform any
action that causes some UI change, like resize a window or right-click to
display context menu, etc - then the window with the artefacts gets repainted
and they disappear.

This has never happened prior to upgrade to Plasma 6.3.4 (from 6.3.3).

Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.6
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0

There are two related issues I see raised here

1. When a cursor theme does not specify its sizes, the cursor is resized to fit
whatever size the Breeze cursor theme had been using
I *can* reproduce this, or something similar on git-master

- If I set the cursor to Breeze Dark 12, and then "Windows Cursors", the cursor
is tiny. It's smaller than the Breeze one.
- If I set the cursor to Breeze Dark 30, and then "Windows Cursors", the cursor
is not as small as in the last step, but it's still smaller than the Breeze
one.
- If I set the cursor to Breeze Dark 48, and then "Windows Cursors", the cursor
is the same as when I set the Breeze cursor to 30

2. The "Size" dropdown is greyed out and has no number inside.
This is expected, since the cursor doesn't support different sizes.
Unfortunately, the work to support different sizes needs to be done by the
cursor theme author.

2025-04-09 Thread Brandon Wright
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485927

I looked into it further, and most of what Zamundaaa says is correct, except
this:
> this happens when KWin tells Qt to render the window.
The only time that syncAndRender is called is directly from the render loop.
The individual sync and render functions called from kwin are not the same
thing. The render loop constantly calls syncAndRender, so theoretically it
would be constantly updating, but it's not. Eventually, it all just narrows
back to that QUnifiedTimer's trigger rate, which continues to be ever
unchanging at 16ms.

Another thing that confused me: there's two different advance functions, one in
QQuickAnimationController which does almost nothing, the other in
QAnimationDriver used by syncAndRender still throttles on the timer.

SUMMARY

Showing man page for SSH in kde help center is misformatted. It seems to
increase indent for each listed hyphenated entry...

See -L and -R in the man page for ssh.
-R [bind_address : ] port : host : hostport
-R [bind_address : ] port : local_socket
-R remote_socket : host : hostport
-R remote_socket : local_socket

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. xdg-open man:ssh
2. scroll down to either -L or -R option

OBSERVED RESULT

each new -R gets indented throwing off the page formatting.

EXPECTED RESULT

-R's are listed as seen in the "man ssh" formatted file with no additional
indentations, rather having them listed.

The problem might be with the zoom app itself. I was unable to share my screen
too after a zoom upgrade at some point but it was because zoom added a new
setting that defaulted to a way of sharing that didn't work for me on Wayland.

To check your zoom settings, right click on the zoom icon in the System Tray
and select "Settings." Then, select "Share screen" and then click "Advanced."
Next to "Screen capture mode on Wayland", select "Pipewire Mode" if it isn't
selected already.

Thanks for noticing that. It was the solaris port commit, but it did indeed fix
the do_atfork_pre call for other oses.

Git commit debd9fd15a6fae6d745fa6f3b0e5e812ac163162 by Akseli Lahtinen.
Committed on 09/04/2025 at 16:47.
Pushed by akselmo into branch 'master'.

KFileWidget: Ignore selected folders during file selection

During file selection, there's no reason to add the selected
folder to the url bar (thus making it selected). User can still visually
select the folder.

Instead, just ignore any selected folders and add only files.
We can then delete the folder checking while loop.

This does not affect directory selection.

[kde] [Bug 502609] New: When switching users, the usb drive stays associated with the other user, needing admin rights to acces the drive or to eject it

2025-04-09 Thread Répási Dávid
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502609

Bug ID: 502609
Summary: When switching users, the usb drive stays associated
with the other user, needing admin rights to acces the
drive or to eject it
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: hu.repasida...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

after mounting a usb drive on user_a, the usb_drive remains in
'/run/media/user_a/usb_drive' after logging out.
this happens both ways between user_a and user_b, even when one user is admin

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. have two user accounts
2. plug in a usb drive
3. mount it on user_a in dolphin
4. unmount it
5. log out
6. log in to user_b
7. try mounting the usb drive in dolphin

OBSERVED RESULT

dolphin requires admin priviliges to acces the usb stick

EXPECTED RESULT

properly remove the usb drive when logging out, so that user_b gets prompted to
mount it to their directory at '/run/media/user_b/usb_drive'

It doesn't seem to reproduce on another user, however it happens as well in my
colleague's pc which is next to me, we both use archlinux with the same version
of kde but it has been happening for a long time.

at least i don't have any customization, i only have 125% scaling and black
theme, i haven't installed plugins or done any kind of customization to kde.

it seems that the bug often reproduces more often after long hours of work.

[kontact] [Bug 502578] Kontact crash on startup

I see a similar problem when starting KMail, using Artix Linux. Interestingly,
KMail crashes with an X11 session, but not using a Wayland session. I suppose
this is some QtWebEngine 6.9.0 issue, as KMail does start for a split second
and then crashes. I posted the problem on the Artix forums at
https://forum.artixlinux.org/index.php/topic,8014.msg47937.html

Starting KMail from a console, I get this (only on X11):

$ LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 kmail
org.kde.pim.messagelist: Saved theme loading failed

Maybe this helps?

> project plugin.

Thanks for the hint!
I have deactivated "session restore" and retried with "Scenario 2" from my
"Comment 2" https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502384#c3
Now "Open Folder" works in Kate as expected, folder and sub-folders will be
opened independent from opening order.

Looking into anonymous.katesession I can see that kateprojectplugin section is
empty now:

[Plugin:kateprojectplugin:]
projects=

Conclusion: "Session restore" and "Open Folder" are not working together...

2025-04-09 Thread Christoph Cullmann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502384

They work together, but we group projects by dir nesting if there are no
explicit project files.
If the restore restores the top level project, the open of the subfolder will
just activate that project that already got restored by session restore.
Altering that behavor or the restore order will just lead to other variants not
working.

[kwin] [Bug 502082] Switching users consistently causes black screen with cursor

2025-04-09 Thread John Kizer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502082

Setting aside the D-Bus stuff, the Kicker method is the KRunner method, correct
- typing in "Switch User" to find it in search results?

Is the issue that sometimes the Kicker/KRunner method causes a regular crash
and sometimes a freeze-up, or is it that is used to do one and now does the
other? Just trying to clearly delineate if there are distinct steps leading to
issues, or the same steps with differing results.

Thanks,
