I can probably easily enough change the main body text from "Fetching updates..." to "Checking for updates...", and similarly change "Updates (Fetching...)" to "Updates (Checking...)" in the category list. But I'm not sure how to (or even whether to) detect when updates are being downloaded (or installed), in order to put "Updates (Downloading...)" (or "Updates (Installing...)") in the category list.
