Re: [GNC] Budget Question and stylesheet question
Hi, I checked my 2.6.15 on my old computer and the C$ symbol is not there. I do not remember doing anything to specifically set C$ for the budget. I wonder why it is only in the right hand totals and not in all the budget items. I did set it for my Chart of Accounts and that is also the case in 2.6.15. David, Thanks for your insights. When I started my Chart of Accounts, I thought I had set it to C$ but it was in US$ an dI had to go back and change them to C$. Maybe I missed one or two of them. I was not aware of the Locale option. Where would I find it and would it change all of my accounts or do I have to apply it individually? Re: [GNC] gnucash 5.10 flatpak edition: "failed tp load /app/lib/dbd/libdbdmysql.so"
Downgrading and resaving as xml sounds like the quickest solution. I'm not sure that using mysql has any benefit for access at different workstations, since GnuCash is not multiuser anyhow. Also, if you downgrade to the package with SQL support, you could just stay there, unless there's some compelling reason to get the latest and greatest flatpak. David T. Re: [GNC] Ok how do i begin? How do I open my new acct with a credit balance in my bank acct? This is for my opening balance in my new biz acct.
Bob This will surprise you but the transaction is Asset:Bank account Debit Equity:Opening Balances Credit The basics section of the Tutorial and Concpets Guide has an introduction to the use of the terms debit and credit in accounting practice. The main thing to remember is these are reversed in your books from the bank's use of them on statements as those statements are issued by them from their accounting perspective. Your bank account is a liability for a bank as they have to be able to come up with the money if you demand it. Likewise your credit card is an asset in the bank's accounting system but a liability in your books. Re: [GNC] Budget Question and stylesheet question
Hi, I went back and checked preferences and Accounts was set to Locale but showed US$. I changed it to C$ and that did not affect the Budget. I have now set it to Locale and $C and the dialog box says it will affect all future actions, still no effect on the Budget. I guess I need to check all of my accounts now to ensure they are consistent. That is probably a task for th weekend. Re: [GNC] gnucash 5.10 flatpak edition: "failed tp load /app/lib/dbd/libdbdmysql.so"
Flatpak is in devuan repos. presumably if flatpak were not supported it would not be in a repo and/or would not be installable. devuan specific packages are built without systemd dependencies. otherwise typical debian packages are used. gnucash 5.9 flatpak edition supports mysql and sqlite3. ranking appears to be irrelevant. devuan is functional. -- dj ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Re: [GNC] no suitable module found for a file
Hi Jean-Pierre/GnuCash users, Glad to hear that installing the libdbd-sqlite3 library solved that issue! Another option to figuring out which Linux dependency might be missing from the Linux distribution that you are using with GnuCash or any other Linux program/app, is to use the Flatpak version, which bundles the libraries/runtimes/dependencies with the Linux app/program. https://flathub.org/apps/org.gnucash.GnuCash - the Flatpak version of Gnucash https://flatpak.org/setup/ & https://flathub.org/setup lists the 41 different Linux distros that work with Flatpak/Flathub and how to get it set up. --- Thanks, Brad - https://www.facebook.com/brad.morrison.12327/ & https://norcal.social/@BradMorrison On 2025-01-09 01:34, Jean-Pierre Vandenbroucke wrote: > Hallo, > > Installing libdbd-sqlite3 solved the problem, thank you. > > Op 8/01/2025 om 22:07 schreef David Cousens: Jean-Pierre, > > Were you using one of the SQL backends to store your file in V5.5 on > LM22. Re: [GNC] When importing an account tree from a csv file, account type information disappears
(Apologies if I mess up the response format on this mailing list; I subscribed to daily digests, so I had to copy-paste from that bundle of messages.) Thanks, Michael, for your prompt response. The ordering of fields and potential manual edits that you suggest after steps a) and b), I had already been through a number of times. However, I had not performed your suggestions a) and b) below, so I went through those steps this morning. This procedure at first seemed to reveal nothing unexpected. However, in preparing a new file (book) from scratch, I discovered that there seemed to be some mixture of English/Norwegian terminologies. Since I expected that my problem was related to the English/Norwegian issue, I performed the New-file-then-export procedure on two different out of the 17 proposed "Categories" of account "ensembles" (my word) available for my language version (nb). I first established a new file (book) using an ensemble called "Common Accounts", where everything was worded in English -- except for the account Type for each account, which was worded in Norwegian. The subsequent csv file export of the account tree, however, displayed the account Types in ENGLISH UPPERCASE. I then repeated the New-file-then-export procedure for an ensemble called "Nærings Kontoer", a use case where everything was in Norwegian, including the account Type for each account. The subsequent csv file export of the account tree, however, displayed the account Types in ENGLISH UPPERCASE. In other words, the export procedure displayed the account Types in ENGLISH UPPERCASE, whereas the display of the account Types inside the GnuCash book was in Norwegian Sentence case. This held for both the "Common Accounts" ensemble (English original) and the "Nærings Kontoer" ensemble (Norwegian adaptation of a different set of accounts). So I tested four different cases of importing a (selection of) my MD account tree (sorry I also erroneously misspelt it MB earlier) into a new and empty GnuCash file (book): Norwegian and English account Type names, in UPPERCASE and Sentence case. The only case where all the account Types were then actually imported, was the combination of English account Type names written in UPPER CASE. One interesting anomaly, though: the English Bank account Type is worded exactly the same way in Norwegian. So in the Norwegian UPPERCASE case import, the account Type for bank accounts was correctly imported (even though no accounts had been defined yet as ASSET accounts). I can now proceed with my other problems of changing from my Mamut Datax system to a GnuCash system. However, since I have not been able to find documentation on the English UPPERCASE requirement for the import (via csv) of account Types associated with imported accounts, I hope someone could either include that in the documentation or give better pointers to where to find it (if it is already somewhere in the documentation). Does anyone reading this message pick up this challenge, or should I direct it elsewhere -- and if so, where? -- Håkon Message: 7 Date: Wed, 8 Jan 2025 18:28:33 -0500 From: Michael or Penny Novack To: gnucash-user@gnucash.org Subject: Re: [GNC] When importing an account tree from a csv file, account type information disappears Message-ID: <0c4e7607-5a9a-4511-8048-d514111b3...@comcast.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed On 1/8/2025 5:52 PM, ha...@finne.net wrote: I am a new GnuCash user. Re: [GNC] no suitable module found for a file
Hallo, Installing libdbd-sqlite3 solved the problem, thank you. Op 8/01/2025 om 22:07 schreef David Cousens: Jean-Pierre, Were you using one of the SQL backends to store your file in V5.5 on LM22. If so, it may be possible that the V5.6 on LMDE6 has been built without the database drivers. So you still have access to the Linux Mint22 system. If so run the File-Save As dialogue from the menu. At the top of the dialogue pane there is a selection box labelled data format which has the options: mysql postgres sqlite3 xml The existing setting of this will tell you what format the file was originally saved in. If it is in one of the first 3 formats the version on the new machine will need to have the SQL support libraries. If you check the same dialogue on your new machine, if it doesn't supply these options it has likely been built without the SQL drivers. Another way you can check for the drivers presence is to type the command "dpkg -l : grep dbi" into a terminal. If you have the database support installed it should indicate the following packages are installed: libdbi and at least one of libdbd-mysql libdbd-pgsql libdbd-sqlite3 If you select "xml" in the File->Save As dialogue, the file will be saved in xml format which can be opened in GnuCash when it has been built without SQL support. Give it an identifiable filename (e.g append "_xml" to the filename - you can delete this addition later). Copy this file to your new machine and then open it with the File->Open dialogue. If what I suspect is the problem you should be able to open it. Re: [GNC] Budget Question and stylesheet question
Hi, To be clear, when you say more than one top level Asset account, you mean that there are two Asset accounts at the top of the Chart of Accounts. I have Assets and nested under that Cash, TFSA. RRIF etc. and under each of those the actual bank accounts etc. The same with Expenses, Income etc. So that does not seem to be the issue. Re: [GNC] Budget Question and stylesheet question
Yes, that is what I mean. I looked at the screenshot you posted, and I notice that the total column entries on the right of the budget show the totals in C$. No idea whether that could be an issue, but I'd like to know how you made that happen. My budgets don't display any currency indicators. (I'm on an older version of GnuCash, that could also be the reason why I don't see it.) Re: [GNC] correct a mistake early
Bob, No great problem. Create the folder and then locate the datafile, its backup and log files, i.e. anyfiles which have the base filename you gave the file e.g. .gnucash .gnucash..gnucash .gnucash..log where is a string with format "mmddhhmmss" e.g. .20250110060236 Any file .LCK can be deleted. When you next start GnuCash use the File->Open dialogue to navigate to the folder and the datafile in it and open it. After that GnuCash should remember where the file is on subsequent openings unless you open another data file. I am also seeing this in 5.10 on Win 10 - my test budget doesn't have any currency prefix whereas Larry's does for some reason ? Just posed this same question and then read your post here suggesting the same :-) Cheers David H.
