[GNC] Exporting reports to spreadsheet - Solved

That's a great question George which has been annoying me for ages so I
flicked it over to the LibreOffice Ask site:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/open-html-file-in-calc-from-os/90615

It would make a good tip for our docs.

Other way round.

You can install Windows in "S" mode (or get a machine with it
preinstalled), and then revert to normal, but you can't change *to* "S"
mode. It wouldn't make sense, because "S" mode is supposed to guarantee
that only "approved" programs are present, and once the machione ahs been
running in normal mode that guarantee can't apply.

[GNC] Transferring data from one set of books to another

All fixed. I opened two instances of gnucash on my 24" monitor, displayed
the personal books Business -> Customers page on both. Selected a row,
opened the edit dialog box, and copied the lines to a New Customer in the
business books.

Can't seem to delete the rows in the personal book so I'll just leave them

[GNC] Crash on CSV transaction import

2023-04-18 Thread jvernice
I am using the nightly build 5.0.77 on Windows 11. Ever since upgrading to
5.0 (and above nightly builds) I am unable to import transactions from CSV.
The system crashes when I select the CSV import profile or when I try to
create a new one. The crash accors immediately after selecting the profile
OR after assigning the AMOUNT column. I have resorted to the latest pre-5.0
build in order to import from CSV. Unfortunately, my Fidelity checking
account only allows for CSV export, so this is an essential means for me to
import into gnucash. Thank you everyone for all your help.

Re: [GNC] [Resolved] gnucash 4.8 does not save settings

2023-04-18 Thread Dale Osborn

Hello, Geert,

First of all, thank you for your efforts in the creation of
GnuCash. Although I am using it only for personal finances I
can see that there is an enormous volume of code in the
package relative to businesses. We users are in debt to developers like you.

Thank you as well for explaining the motivation for adopting
flatpaks. I can well understand that it is not practical for
the GnuCash team to build separate packages for the myriad
distributions active in the field.

I was going to keep a well-running version 3.8 on my laptop
while adapting to version 4.8 that came with my updated Mint
21 on my desktop. However, version 3.8 warned me that it
could not handle something created by 4.8 (thanks for the
warning) so I purged gnucash from both machines and installed
the 4.13 flatpak on both. Both are accepting and storing
configuration settings, so that is no longer a problem.

Sharing the configuration files turned out to be very
simple. I symlinked from ~/.var/app/org.gnucash.GnuCash to a
folder that is mirrored by SyncThing.

I have changed the email address registered with the list to
one that will not generate the acceptance requests you
encountered. This email is from the new address.

I think it is time to close this thread.

Thanks again,
Dale

Before you go the flatpak route though, it may be worth
figuring out why your settings are not saved. Are there any
messages in your trace file ?

A known issue with saving settings is when you have
applications installed in /usr/local. Or more specifically
if there are schema files in
/usr/local/share/glib-2.0/schemas/. In that case gnucash
fails to find its own schema files in
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/. This issue was fixed for gnucash 4.13.

Geert

Re: [GNC] Transferring data from one set of books to another

2023-04-18 Thread david whiting
You can import customers as csv file, so you just need to get a way of
exporting customers. One way you can do this is to save your gnucash file
in sqlite format (if you don't use that already) and then open the file in
something like sqlitebrowser https://sqlitebrowser.org/ Here you can view
the customers table ("Browse data" and select the customers table) which
you can then export as a csv file. It won't be in the right format to
import, so you'll need to open it in a spreadsheet program and move some
columns around and delete some columns that aren't needed. You can see the
import format here:

[GNC] Please don't double post

2023-04-18 Thread Stan Brown
Lately there seems to be a rash of double posts.

Maybe people, especially new subscribers, are unaware of how mailing
lists work. There is always a lag between when you hit Send and when the
message appears in your inbox. It may be a few seconds, or it may be a
few minutes. Please give _at_least_ 10 minutes before you assume your
email wasn't sent and send it again.

And, of course, don't re-send just because you didn't get answers right
away. Not everybody checks the list every few minutes, so it may take a
day or more till you get the answer you're looking for. Re-posting
doesn't cut that time down.

There's a lot of traffic on this list, and the double posts just make it
that much harder for recipients to manage. Thanks in advance for your
consideration!

Subject: [GNC] GNC 5.0 Online Quotes Not Working

Hi All,

GNC 5.0
Finance::Quote 1.54
Windows 11

I sent this earlier today, but it wasn't from the account I was
subscribed with so I'm not sure what happened to it. Sending --
hopefully that's not an issue.

I upgraded from 4.13 to 5.0, and now my online quotes functionality is
not working correctly. When I run it from the price database window,
you can see the cmd prompt open, but then it closes almost
immediately.

After running it, it DOES update one currency item (EUR), but none of
the stocks get updated. In the security editor window, it shows what
source is currently selected, but in the dropdown to change the
source, everything is grayed out and can't be changed.

I've also tried running it from the command line but with no success.

Please see screenshots.

Thanks!

2023-04-18 Thread Fross, Michael
Thanks for the link Murugan. I don't believe these are official releases,
so I'm assuming they may not have gone through all of the standard testing
/ reviews normally associated with a release.

I wonder if my fear is unfounded or if my assumption is even true...

I also appreciate the link. That version is indeed working correctly for

I’ll be sure to upgrade to that when it’s released.

Thanks again,

The easiest option which wasn't mentioned is to revert either back to your
former release or to 4.14 and then wait for the next release in the 5.x
series which will also include fixes for many other issues.

Flywire,

Nope, accounting periods didn't get fixed so everything I said in 2021 about
that is still true.

Messing around in GnuCash's internals is only supported if the result gets
accepted via a pull request. Otherwise it's a fork and with forks you always
run the risk that we'll change or remove the underlying code and break your
changes. That's true no matter what language the code is written in and it's
true of every FLOSS project I've been involved with, which at this point is
quite a few.

Re: [GNC] Invoice layout changed upon upgrade from 4.13 to 4.14

2023-04-18 Thread Adrien Monteleone

The mailing list does accept attachments, but not inline images.

Of course, linking to outside file services is fine too.

As to your question, are you saying:

You have saved report configurations that now don't display properly
because of this change?

I would think saved configurations should not change in such a
circumstance, so perhaps this is an additional bug.

*note, in 5.0, you can now set a Saved Configuration as the default for
all invoices.

Regards,
Adrien

On 4/17/23 6:20 PM, John W. O'Brien via gnucash-user wrote:

Hello GnuCash users,

I routinely print invoices to PDF. To help ensure quality and
consistency in the output, I have tuned both the "default" style sheet
and the report layout I use to generate these invoices. On multiple (low
single digits) macOS machines (Monterey 12.6.5, mix of Intel and Apple
Silicon), I sync the GnuCash data and config via an ownCloud instance.

A side-effect of installing the upgrade from 4.13 to 4.14 was that the
report "Options->Layout->Row 1 Left" setting changed from "Company name,
address and tax ID" [0] to "Empty space" [1]. I suspect this change is a
consequence of:

     Bug 798717
Reports > Business > Fancy Invoice duplicates company details

My concern and uncertainty is about whether this bug fix should have
affected a configuration derived from canned report specifically to
affix the layout, where the derived configuration is no longer clearly
tied to the original, canned report. I would not expect that installing
a minor update would result in a change this substantial. Am I missing
something, should I be reporting this as a regression against 798717,
does this seem like a new bug, or something else?

Thank you,
John

PS: I wasn't sure if the mailing list would accept PNG attachments,
which is why I posted them separately.

[GNC] Errors viewing saved multicolumn reports after upgrading to GnuCash 5.0

2023-04-18 Thread Chris Grinton
Gnucash Users,

I am encountering errors when attempting to view saved multicolumn reports
after upgrading to GnuCash 5.0. I'm wondering if anybody else has
experienced similar things, and might have found a resolution/workaround.

The following steps minimally reproduce what I am seeing (although opening
existing saved multi-column reports results in a similar outcome):

   1. Create a new multicolumn report (Reports > Multicolumn > Custom
   Multicolumn Report)
   2. Save the report configuration (no changes to the empty/blank default
report are required to reproduce the errors)
   3. Close the report, and open it again (from Reports > Saved Report
   Configurations)
   4. The following error is displayed (full screenshot attached below):

An error occurred while running the report.

   In procedure for-each: Not a list: #f

(FWIW, I am also finding GnuCash 5.0 crashes when clicking the "Save Config
As..." button while viewing a report, and have experienced various other
unexplained crashes when using reports. I'm not sure if that is related to
this specific error - I suspect not.)

[GNC] Balance Forecast End Date

2023-04-18 Thread Ryan Turner
I've wanted this functionality for quite a while, particularly for the
forecast report.

I have attempted to add support for more preset relative dates ("3 months
from today", "1 year from today", "6 months ago", etc.) a few times in the
past, but haven't quite been able to locate where in the code this date
handling is implemented.
If someone with knowledge of the code can point me in the right direction,
I'm definitely willing to develop this feature if there's interest.

Currently, I just go through all my reports and increment the date at the
start of each month. Not ideal, but it gets the job done. /shrug

Thanks,
Ryan Turner
