Re: [GNC] How do I install recent version on Ubuntu?

2022-11-17 Thread David Carlson
You can get release .4.8 as a PPA for Ubuntu 22.04. I think that is fairly
close to current, dated last February 9. IIRC, I got it from the main
Ububntu Jammy PPA .

[GNC] Reusing old invoices?

2022-11-17 Thread Morgan Read via gnucash-user
Hi Folks,

I'm trying to re-use an old invoice that was never sent out - but, the entries
seem to be locked. The invoice hasn't been posted and I can 'Edit Invoice'
details, but when I come to entre a line item it's uneditable. I've been able
to do the same with other invoices that were created but not posted. (I've
been clearing out some old redundant invoices by reusing them.)

Also, I have a 'duplicate' invoice - two invoices with the same invoice number
- but no way to 'delete' the invoice. One was posted and sent, the other is
only partially complete - the partially complete one is actually a credit note.
 So, I figure I need to change it to a invoice (from a credit note) and change
the invoice number and probably reset the invoice numbering so I can reuse it
as an invoice and get rid of it and then have the invoice numbering run
properly.

Any ideas on the above?

Thanks

Re: [GNC] Reusing old invoices?

2022-11-17 Thread Adrien Monteleone
I recall an issue not long ago with an uneditable, unposted invoice.
I'll check to see if I resolved it and if so, how. (this was an issue
with the line-items, the details were editable)

Be sure you aren't trying to edit the details directly in the fields on
the invoice tab. (I know, that is confusing UI/UX) You have to use the
Edit button on the toolbar and make changes there. (or use the Edit
Bill/Invoice entry in the Edit menu)

I don't think you can change a Credit Note to an Invoice. (I recall
wanting to do this once, and couldn't figure out how)

You should be able to simply renumber the Note/Invoice to avoid
duplication confusion.

I usually 'number' my need-to-be-reused bills/invoices as "Use Next" and
then edit as needed later and post.

Adrien

2022-11-17 Thread R Losey
I upgraded to 22.04 LTS, and it seems to have installed either 4.11 or 4.12.

On the previous version, I used flatpack to get the most recent version.

[GNC] Stock quotations

2022-11-17 Thread Ira Fuchs
I am trying to get quotes to work on Gnucash 4.2.1 on a Mac running Mojave.
Gnucash says that Finance::Quote is not installed properly. However, this is
what I get in terminal:

cpan[1]> install Finance::Quote
Reading '/var/root/.cpan/Metadata'
  Database was generated on Thu, 17 Nov 2022 18:29:01 GMT
Finance::Quote is up to date (1.5301).

Is there another step I am needing?

Yeah, GnuCash's interface script also requires Date::Manip. The easiest way to
make sure your installation is correct is to use
/Applications/GnuCash.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gnc-fq-update.

Re: [GNC] Stock quotations

2022-11-17 Thread Ira Fuchs
If I run gnc-fq-update (as I’ve tried several times), it ends with:

All tests successful.
Files=59, Tests=82,  8 wallclock secs ( 0.14 usr  0.11 sys +  6.33 cusr  1.11
csys =  7.69 CPU)
Result: PASS
  BPSCHUCK/Finance-Quote-1.5301.tar.gz
Tests succeeded but one dependency not OK (Test::Kwalitee)
  BPSCHUCK/Finance-Quote-1.5301.tar.gz
  [dependencies] -- NA
Running make install
  make test had returned bad status, won't install without force

I have then tried to do force install Finance::Quote and that ends with:

All tests successful.
Files=59, Tests=82,  8 wallclock secs ( 0.13 usr  0.10 sys +  6.96 cusr  1.05
csys =  8.24 CPU)
Result: PASS
Terminal does not support GetHistory.
Lockfile removed.
  BPSCHUCK/Finance-Quote-1.5301.tar.gz
  /usr/bin/make test -- OK
Running make install for BPSCHUCK/Finance-Quote-1.5301.tar.gz
Manifying 48 pod documents
Appending installation info to
/usr/local/Cellar/perl/5.34.0/lib/perl5/5.34.0/darwin-thread-multi-2level/perllocal.pod
  BPSCHUCK/Finance-Quote-1.5301.tar.gz
  /usr/bin/make install  — OK

If I then open Gnucash and go to the Security Editor, it says “warning:
Finance::Quote is not installed properly”.

You are on a Mac. Are you by any chance using MacPorts or Fink or
Homebrew to install software?  If so, be aware that GnuCash consults
only the system locations for Perl modules, not the locations used by
MacPorts. For more information, see

.

If you are not using MacPorts or the like, my apologies for the distraction.

There's your problem. You're updating Homebrew's perl but GnuCash can't see
that. gnc-fq-foo all have a shebang for /usr/bin/perl, so Homebrew must have
corrupted your environment to circumvent that. Try creating a new user,
switching to that user with fast user switching, and running gnc-fq-update from
there. If that doesn't work try filing a bug with Homebrew: After all, they
redistribute Gnucash.app in a cask so there's a reasonable expectation that
they don't break it.

John Ralls
