[GNC] [MAINT] (another) unplanned network outage for code.gnucash.org
Good morning all, So after two days of being offline, here's another 7. I had a power blip last night around 12:30am and, due to the way everything is connected, my switch decided to get its IP Address from my AT&T Router instead of my home DHCP server, and all loads of fun ensued. My Wifi wasn't working, and even my ACTUAL DHCP server didn't work, so many machines that were hard-wired didn't get an IP Address properly. This morning I got up, unplugged the router from my switch, power-cycled the switch, reset the DHCP server, and then rebooted all the machines that got the wrong IP address... SO... Everything SHOULD be up again, now. Sorry for the inconvenience. I think I need to get my ER-4 back up so this doesn't happen again. -derek -- Derek Atkins 617-623-3745 de...@ihtfp.com www.ihtfp.com Computer and Internet Security Consultant ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. [GNC] How to train your GnuCash (before CSV transaction import) - but why?
I am trying to import several hundred transactions from several CSV files. Each CSV file will be imported to one Bank account and each file has a column with the Transfer Account for each Transaction; e.g. Another Bank, Salary, Interest etc (using the full account names). In the CSV importer, I select the Bank account that I want to import the transactions to, and I select "Transfer Account" for my Transfer Account Column and click on Next. I get two columns: "Account ID" - which shows the Full Account Names for the Transfer Accounts and "Account Name" which shows "No Linked Account" for each transaction. I then need to click on "No Linked Account" for each transaction and specify the Account names again; i.e. Bank 2 -- Bank2 Salary - Salary Interest - Interest etc. I click on next twice and I could then import my transactions. I choose to cancel at that point because I have now told GnuCash that Bank2=2, Salary=Salary, Interest=Interest etc... In the import Map Editor (non-Bayesian) it now shows that Bank2 matches Bank2; Salary matches Salary, Interest matches Interest, etc.. Thus, if I now import my different bank accounts from the different CSV files, the Transaction Accounts are recognized I can import each CSV file directly. My question is: Why do I need to link the Transaction Accounts to themselves? I had expected GnuCash to recognize the Transaction account names in the Transaction Account Column. Is there maybe a different way of doing this so that the training/linking is not needed? ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Can I enter URL links on the Accounts Tree Page? Best would be in the Notes field for each account. Clicking on the link would bring me to the financial institution homepage, to a stock or mutual fund page etc. I think that this is currently not possible..? Viking2ev, I already do put URLs in the notes field for some Accounts and I have had no problem with needing to select and copy the text in order to use it. I generally use it in a manner that cannot be simply hyperlinked anyway as I use a special configuration for privacy. You don't need to 'select' an account before doing a search. [GNC] Missing 2nd entry
I just found a transaction that is not a double entry. It is just a single entry. Not sure how that happened. When I click on Split to see the other side of the entry, there is nothing. Clicking on Jump does nothing. With that strange transaction as the current entry: Clicking on Actions->Check&Repair->This transaction appears to do nothing. Same for All transactions. With all account tabs closed (so only the top level Accounts shows): Clicking on Actions->Check&Repair->Check&repair all runs for a minute or two and does not fix that entry, nor make a new account for Unbalanced or similar. I wonder if this unusual transaction is the cause of the Trial Balance report crashing and giving me a traceback. Equity Statement report also crashes with a similar traceback. Re: [GNC] Missing 2nd entry
Fred, If you go to the Accounts tab in the main window can you see either an Orphan or Imbalance account with a non-zero balance. The transaction creation process and the importer have never allowed you to create a transaction in GnuCash which is unbalanced. I just tested it and tried to force creating an unbalanced transaction in 4.10 (linux Mint 20.3) and you cannot do it. It automatically creates the Imbalance account entry. Not sure if the datafile reading mechanism enforces that condition when data is being read into GnuCash from a file or database and a transaction record had been corrupted though. Have you manually edited the datafile by any chance? Can you delete the transaction and if necessary recreate it in balanced form? Re: [GNC] Missing 2nd entry
It's possible to create a single split transaction. The only requirement is that the transaction must be balanced i.e. the total is zero. Therefore, create a zero-amount split and leave the "other account" field blank. If this is not the case, then you'll have found a quantum anomaly in the engine; a screenshot of the expanded (multi line) transaction will be interesting to see...
