Re: Should we really translate legal notices?
W dniu 04.05.2010 13:41, Ihar Hrachyshka pisze: Recently one of Gnome localizers, Andika Triwidada, asked in gnome-i18n if we should really translate legal notices found in Gnome software translation catalogues. He stated that there is a policy for this in Fedora Project [2] which states that asks translators not to translate legal notices since such translations are risky if not approved by professional lawyers (which is of course not the case for 99% of Gnome translations). Fedora Project has no such policy. We translate legal notices like GPL notice in About dialogs, as every other FLOSS project do. This FAQ entry might be misleading, because it not defines "legal notice", which I believe in this case is actually just [1] and nothing more. I'm sorry for any possible confusion. String freeze break request in gnome-shell
Hi, I'd like to commit a patch from bug 658414 [1] to add context to two "Sign In" strings in login window. I need different translations for them in Polish (one is a button [2] and another is a window title/command [3]). I'm pretty sure some other languages need this too. i18n of app menus
Hi guys, I'm sure many of you have heard of the new 3.4 feature, application menu [1]. There is one problem with it from the i18n perspective: app menus are not translatable. Affected apps seems to be epiphany, gnome-contacts, but not gnome-boxes and gnome-documents. The issue with the former is that they use an .ui file which is not a standard Glade file format, see [2]. I've tried to mark these strings as translatable in numerous ways, but I can't make them appear in PO files. So my question is: does anyone have any idea how to fix it? Maybe I should file a bug against GTK+? New coordinator for Polish team
Hi, I'd like to inform you that I've taken over the coordinatorship of Polish translation team from Tomasz Dominikowski. Unfortunately, he is too busy with his day job to inform you in person, but I can assure you that he approves this change. I'll ask him to confirm this mail as soon as possible. As for who I am, you should probably know me, as I am the sole Polish translator for past few releases. :) I already have git account. I also try to help with various localization bugs/tasks/activities, such as keeping POTFILES.in up to date, finding and fixing untranslatable strings, removing mark-up etc. I'm also the maintainer of Fedora Polish translations, as well as many other minor and major projects. I would like to become the coordinator in Damned Lies and the default asignee in Bugzilla, so could you tell me what steps should I take? Submodules in git.gnome.org (and how to deal with them)
Hello everyone, During the 3.7.x release cycle several GNOME modules has started using git submodules. This causes some problems with damned-lies support, which Claude, Gil and others are currently working on. It doesn't seem that they will finish it that soon, and d-l is currently broken for gnome-shell module, so please take a special attention when updating your translations of such modules. To correctly update a translation of, for example, gnome-shell, you need to first update your copy of the repository: $ git pull --rebase Then you should pull and update submodules: $ git submodule init && git submodule update Finally, update your translation file using inttool: $ cd po && intltool-update lang_code && cd .. And that's it! While only gnome-shell is broken in damned-lies, also gnome-control-center and gnome-settings-daemon (and Banshee, but that one does it for years) use submodules containing translations. I hope this can help avoid any confusion and missing translations. The strings themselves appeared after Gil updated Catalan translation, which triggered statistics refresh using newer intltool. Intltool used in the time of GNOME 3.0 hadn't had support for gschema.xml files, so despite the fact that data/org.gnome.color-manager.gschema.xml was in POTFILES.in, it was not in po files. Obviously, there is 0% chance and need for 3.0.1 release, so it's all for keeping clean statistics on my part. :) Hope this helps, -- Piotr Drąg http://raven.fedorapeople.org/ ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n
