gtkosurceview branched for GNOME 2.20

2007-09-09 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi,

I've branched gtksourceview for Gnome 2.20 (branch name gnome-2-20).

New development will happen on trunk, there are no fixed plans yet but
we will expand the API to restore some features that were in
gtksourceview 1 and that have been removed from the 2.0 release for lack
of time for proper API review and testing (LineMarkers and maybe
printing, though if the latter really belongs in gtksourceview is still
under discussion).

Some big features on the map for the future are Code Folding, Completion
Infrastructure and Indenters Support, but I am not sure they can be
realistically targeted for 2.2 (at least with our current manpower).

gedit taglist plugin moved to gedit-plugins

2010-11-06 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi,

I just moved in git the "taglist" plugin from the gedit module to the
gedit-plugins module.

The taglist plugin comes with quite a bit of translatable strings, so
this is an heads-up so that translators know they just need to move the
translations instead of redoing them.

If someone knows a way to do this automatically, he is more than welcome
to do such a change.

Clocks late break request (geolocation)

2013-09-11 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi!

I know it is very late in the cycle, but I'd like to ask you if I can
land support for geolocation in gnome-clocks.
The feature was developed by Evgeny during GSOC and it is the natural
companion to the geolocation support that was added to the control-center,
so I think it would be great to have since geolocation support is one of
the themes of 3.10 (maps, etc)

The code has been reviewed and tested and I am confident about it, the
delay in landing it is mostly due to getting all the moving parts aligned
(geoclue2, vala etc)

The UI impact of the feature is minimal (no new dialogs or buttons, simply
the clock for the current location is added at startup)

The impact on translations is one new string (the gsetting)

The code is available on this git branch:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-clocks/log/?h=wip/geoinfo

gedit string change

2006-02-24 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi,
as a part of the ui review we identified some small tweaks which
require string freeze breakage.

Since it's already late and our available time to dedicate to gedit
seems very little in these days, I thought to at least go ahead and ask
for approval with the following trivial patch.
In fact while we change the english string (substuting "Panel" with
"Pane" for HIG compliance), the translations should not be affected.

If the patch is approved, should I edit the po files myself to remove
the "fuzzy" or should I let translators handle that?

Why shouldn't translations be affected? A "pane" and a "panel" are two
different things, and they are probably translated differently (at
least in my language).

In this context they are exactly the same thing and they refer to the
same UI element, so whatever you called that UI element in your

Committed, thanks Danilo.

As already indicated, translations for "panel" and "pane" differ in
many languages, so this is not a simple spelling mistake: don't remove
the fuzzy markers!

Well, the reasoning was that a "cat" is still a "gatto" in italian no
matter how we call it in english, so a translation should use the word
that means "that ui element that is on the side of the window" no matter
if we called it "pane" or "panel". If the tranlation needs to be changed
it means that the translation was wrong in the first place. But anyway,
editing all po files is not fun, so not touching them is less work for me :)

It's all good.

I was hoping that you would also group all the changes together :(
That would be easier for translators to update as well (instead of cvs
up-ing, editting and cvs ci-ing twice, they would have done it only
once; at least those who have been quick).

having it just rotten in the main CVS space forever.
So if someone mails [EMAIL PROTECTED] and asks for it to be moved to
the archive, then we can remove it from the translation status pages
at the same time.

gedit-plugins is not dead: it has been unmaintained for some years (from
2.6 to 2.12 iirc) and it has been almost dead in the last months since
as you may know gedit has changed its plugin system and the plugins in
that package were not ported to the new system.

However now the module has been brought back to life by Steve Frecineaux
and we will use it to collect some new plugins for the new gedit.

We very much welcome the help of the translation team with it. That said
it's likely that the module will be pretty much "in flux" for the coming
months. I am not sure how the translation team handles modules which are
in gnome cvs, that would welcome translations, but that are not part of
any release schedule and that should probably not affect translations
statisctics etc.

Sorry for the confusion

ciao

   Paolo

gtksourceview branched

2006-07-24 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi,
gtksourceview has been finally branched for gnome 2.14. No new features
are planned, the branch has been done just to add some new .lang files
which add some translatable strings.

In case someone is wondering if there are exciting new features planned
on the longer term, yes: a brand new gtksourceview with more powerful
highlighing capabilities is beeing worked on as part of Google SoC...
hopefully ready for gnome 2.18.

Re: String additions to 'gedit.master'

2013-09-29 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi,

the string change is probably due to switching to native gsettings
support in gettext:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gedit/commit/?id=efe4de9a41cd1ebe131e7c6af3b6827520b47d35

I think those strings are translatable because in some languages it may be
better to specify different default fonts with more complete coverage of
the local glyphs... Or maybe that was just the case a long time ago when
free fonts were not as complete as they are today. I defer to the
translation team to decide if we should keep them or not.

Ciao
 Paolo

Accessibility strings in gedit

2014-02-25 Thread Paolo Borelli
As currently discussed on desktop-devel-list, we need to add a few strings
for accessibility names of UI elements. I have committed a first change but
probably more will follow.

Re: String additions to 'gnome-clocks.master'

2014-08-10 Thread Paolo Borelli
Hi Piotr,

thanks for the reminder. Note however that those are not new strings, I
simply renamed a file, but the strings were already there before...

That said, you are right that I should branch gnome-3-12 since master has
some minor UI changes, however when I try to push the branch I get the
following git commit hook error that prevents me to push:

remote: The following part of the file fails to do this. Please correct the
translation and try to push again.
remote:
remote: #: ../data/gnome-clocks.desktop.in.h:4
remote: msgid "time;timer;alarm;world clock;stopwatch;time zone;"

The error seems bogus to me since the translations are simply on a
different like like:

#: ../data/gnome-clocks.desktop.in.h:4
msgid "time;timer;alarm;world clock;stopwatch;time zone;"
msgstr ""
"време;отброяване;напомняне;часовник;секундомер;пояс;хронометър;time;timer;"
"alarm;world clock;stopwatch;time zone;"

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to avoid this problem?

Thanks,

Paolo
