(pardon the top-post, lousy work email client) Also, some of the kernel structures lsof needs aren't exported to /usr/include. Porting question
I've asked portmgr before, but still haven't found a decent way to do what I want, so let me post this publicly. I want to make the sysutils/lsof port fail early with a decent message if the kernel sources aren't loaded on the system. The most common question/problem report I get is when the lsof configure script fails due to a lack of the system sources. Ideas on how to do this cleanly in the port Makefile? RE: Upgrading 'lsof-4.79K' to 'lsof-4.79,1' failed
You need to upgrade your system sources. The way the developers have implemented some locking changes makes it hard for the lsof configure script to do the right thing. Please upgrade to current RELENG_7, and all should be fine with the 4.79,1 port. Thanks! Only distributed with the source, which annoyed me because at the time I didn't have the room... That's a good question. I'm not sure whether it requires just the headers or kernel sources beyond that. The lsof/Makefile explicitly checks for sys/kern/kern_lockf.c so the port is definitely looking for more than the headers. If you want to save space, you should probably be safe checking out just /usr/src/sys. Please let me know if I'm wrong about that; you're certainly neither the first nor the last person to want lsof without needing the entire src tree. # Adam it needs the sources. I've been maintaining lsof for the last 5 years, mostly as a proxy for Vic Abell (the original Author, now retired at 80+ years old). We have a github project (https://github.com/lsof-org). I'm still officially the maintainer, but need some help from the kernel folks to clean up all the #ifdef mess going back to FreeBSD 2.2(if not earlier). and modernize the interfaces between lsof<->kernel. -- Larry Rosenman http://www.lerctr.org/~ler Phone: +1 214-642-9640 E-Mail: l...@lerctr.org US Mail: 5708 Sabbia Dr, Round Rock, TX 78665-2106 ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list https://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

Re: package version scheme
On 2015-09-01 16:08, Xin Li wrote: Hi, I hit a conflict between pkg behavior and the Porters' handbook, it confused me. In this example: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/makefile-distfiles.html#idp59327440 The handbook suggested that the right PORTVERSION should be 0.7.1.d if DISTVERSION is 0.7.1d. However, pkg version -t 0.7.1 0.7.1.d gives me >, suggesting that 0.7.1 -> 0.7.1.d would be considered as a downgrade. I'm asking mainly because www/dokuwiki's upstream have a habit of using a letter to denote patchlevel, for instance, 20150810a means first service pack of 20150810, so it's expected to be greater. pkg version -t 20150810 20150810a gives me '<', which is pretty much what I'm expecting, but this sounds wrong based on my previous experience with package tools and the porters handbook. Could you please clarify what would be the correct approach? For now I'm going to continue using PORTREVISION for this port as it's done historically. Thanks in advance! Cheers, I, as sysutils/lsof maintainer, depend on the behavior you see (the >). Vic Abell uses the letters as "fixup" releases, until a full release, for example; 4.89A -> 4.89B -> 4.89C -> 4.89 -> 4.90A -> 4.90B -> 4.90 -- Larry Rosenman http://www.lerctr.org/~ler Phone: +1 214-642-9640 E-Mail: l...@lerctr.org US Mail: 7011 W Parmer Ln, Apt 1115, Austin, TX 78729-6961 ___ freebsd-ports@freebsd.org mailing list https://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"

There might have been something in those 3104 lines that you missed. Otherwise, I suggest looking more closely at how it determines "duplicate" to see where it might have found them. It deletes the directory, runs the create script, and then runs the hash create script. Something is wierd, or 0.70's tarball has a different set of certs. Can you try the 0.70 stuff, and see if it still fails? The scripts are really simple.
