But what I understand when you using portupgrade (or something like that), first the new version is build and after that the old version is deinstall and the new version is install. That's mean when you build the new version the olds libraries still here. Maybe some conflicts ? ion windows manager on FreeBSD
Hi all I'm trying to compile http://modeemi.fi/~tuomov/ion/download.html on my FreeBSD 8.0-RC1 and didn't success I would like to known if anyone can help me make ion work ? Maybe someone have the patch file for the system.mk ? Long time ago ion ports was kick off from the ports system because the will of the developper (please don't troll). I just saw the license just change maybe now it's possible to put again ion in the ports system ? I would like to help for the ports but as you can see I unable to build for myself. It's very discouraging. > > Some time ago I asked which TeX-Port would be the best, LaTeX oder > teTeX. People here on this list recommended teTeX. I think there are some misunderstanding. teTeX is a distrubition, latex is a command. tex, latex, pdftex, pdflatex, etc is set of command and all of this command need many files (~15000 files). If you like it's like a Linux, gcc is part of Linux, but gcc is not Linux. And the are many linux distribution (Debian, Fedora etc..). But actually there only one distribution and it's TexLive. The teTeX project is ended by the author. And as like a Linux distribution you can use it event it's not up2date, but after sometime, depend the speed of the evolution, you need a new distribution. tex/latex don't evolve very fast, that's not mean it's never change. Actually I think it's not a problem to use teTeX. But IMHO it's the best interest of all FreeBSD user to have soon TexLive instead teTeX > TeXLive came up, too, and AFAIK there is work being done to include it > in the ports system. I'm only a tex user, not tex gourou. For your question I think all depends what's you mean «small packages». I think for the user it's important to have something easy to install (This is the tex distribution purpose...). For example if a user need to install 10 ports to make \documentclass{article} \begin{document} Hello world \end{document} to compile with latexit's hopeless. I remenber sometime ago there are beamer packages as a ports. Well that's not a big problem because not every tex user use beamer. But now beamer is part of teTeX. It's better because many user don't known baemer event exist. Well...IMHO «we» need a big ports ports for 99% users... Idea for next portupgrade
Hi all I want to thanks the dev of portupgrade. It save lots of my time and work fine. But I just think about our new computer with the lot of core, a standard server have dual proc with quad-core that's mean 8 core availble. In the next version of portupgrade, IMHO it's good idea to have option to make portupgrade working with many proc. Because what I known many ports cannot by compile with «-j8» option. In that case when we make portupgrade --all -b we have just one compilation. It's enough when we have 1 or 2 procs. But now with 8 or more proc If portupgrade can calculate the depency and launch many ports build in same time for non-depending ports it's can be wonderful. But it's just a idea. Maybe it's already in the roadmap ... Unfortunaly I'm not a developpers and cannot help. using ports or gems (easy_install)
Hi everybody, I would like to known how you manage your gem (ruby) or easyinstall (python). Do you use ports ? or directly gems or easyinstall ? or both ? For exemple when you want install some software with lots of dependances you can use (if the software use easy_install) just one easy_install and everything is installed, you can use ports for some packages but sometime not every packages are in the ports so you should need to installed it through easy_install. After that same question about updating So what you do ? And why ? Regards. bash 4.3 problem
Hi all, I don't known if it's a problem with bash 4.3 or with bash 4.3-FreeBSD. But when you got a file with a name like (my_file) begin with a "(" the completion don't work. For example if you create : touch \(\) you can delete it with rm \(\) but you can't do rm \(+TAB Regards.
