Hi,
are you sure you've 3.28.3 of Evolution? And more importantly also
3.28.3 of evolution-data-server, please? It's not enough to just have
it installed, especially in case of evolution-data-server, you need to
re-login or reboot the machine, thus the updated bits are run, instead
of the old bits, which had been started before the update.

The "code enter issue" had been fixed for 3.28.3 version within:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=795997
Unless it regressed again.
Bye,
Milan

[Evolution] Evolution & Gmail not working correctly

2018-09-07 Thread coreefdiver via evolution-list
I've been a long time user of Evolution.

no real problems until I upgraded Ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04.1

Evolution seems to have updated to 3.28.1-2

I found older/dated, on-line references to my problem, but zero
solutions.

seems Evolution doesn't work well with 0Auth2 authentication?

I can change to a password and that works, for a while,
then Evolution keeps wanting to revert back to 0Auth2 and the cycle
keeps repeating.

everything worked okay before the update.

what should I be doing? because all the old solutions I've seen don't
apply as I've already got things set up correctly (based upon those
suggestions)

There's been lots about this on the mailing list in the last few
months. Try searching the archives. Basically, you need to update
Evolution (and EDS) to at least 3.28.3.

Thanks for the reply Pete.

my bad, I used the List search engine and all I got was results dated
2016 or earlier :-/

I found a few recent threads, going month to month in the archive, and
there is nothing new there, that I haven't already tried.

updating to 3.30 from what I observed trying to figure out how, is
more complicated than it really should be and too much of a risk vs
time at the moment; one of linux's biggest problems, IMHO. It used to
be real bad updating things, but I will admit it has gotten
tremendously better; but it seems there are a few exceptions.

cheers

Configuring the accounts using Gnome online Accounts usometimes gets
around the issue. But the underlying issue is that it's a fixed bug in
Evolution, but the fix is for 3.28.3+

You don't need to go to 3.30, in fact that might introduce other issues
if your underlying Gnome system is still on 3.28

It all depends on your distro. LTS or Enterprise versions tend not to
majorly update things for stability. But whereas most such distros are
happy to update minor versions because they are usually bug fixes,
Ubuntu, for some reason, seems to stick to the same minor version -
i.e. 3.28.1, whereas it should be on 3.28.5.

I'm afraid your best bet is to ask on the Ubuntu forums for advise on
how to get to at least 3.28.3 - there may be some repository (or
whatever they call them!) or some simple way of compiling things your
self.

Hi
You could of course look here
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/3.28.5-1
then look under builds for your architecture amd64 etc

The problem is that Ubuntu doesn't consider Evolution to be part of the
"main" repository, because it's not the standard mail client that
Ubuntu supplies (I believe their standard mail client is Thunderbird).

Personally I think this is a mistake, although at one point it may have
made sense since Thunderbird, while less capable than Evolution, had
(probably for the same reason) less issues. I'm not convinced that's
decision is still correct, especially given Ubuntu's recent move to be
closer to Gnome. Maybe it can be revisited between now and Ubuntu
20.04 LTS.

In any event, currently Ubuntu has Evolution in the "universe"
repository and the rules for software updating in "universe", even on
LTS releases, are much different than "main":

  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

All that being said, there is currently an upgrade to Evolution 3.28.5
in the Ubuntu 18.04 "proposed" repo. Unfortunately I know of no way to
understand why the package is still in "proposed" since it was pushed
there on Aug 13... I had thought proposed packages move into the
mainline faster than that. Maybe some issue was identified. Jeremy
has been known to drop in here; maybe he has some insight.

https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/pending-sru.html
(search for evolution)

Of course anyone can add the "proposed" repository to their system and
install proposed updates, if they want to. Be aware that these are not
finally approved so there may be issues. You might want to consider
only adding proposed for "universe" (I don't know how well that will
work).
