[Dx-packages] [Bug 1303395] Re: HUD search works incorrectly
This guy (http://i.imgur.com/hfiGC48.png) is where I see this really going wrong. There's no doubt that it should be giving us the simple "Build" result. I would attribute this to libcolumbus not adding a bonus score to searches that have the correct number of words. I would like to solve this problem when I've got the chance. ** Also affects: libcolumbus Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: libcolumbus Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: hud Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: hud (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303395 Title: HUD searches do not prioritise results with the correct number of words Status in Unity HUD: Confirmed Status in Libcolumbus, a small, fast, error tolerant matcher: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: my app (sublime text3) have menu item "Tools->Build" I open HUD (pressing Alt key) and begin type "build". For the first 3/5 letters, the menu shows just unfitting entries, that do not even match the combination of letters. This way the HUD menue gets almost useless, since one has to enter almost the whole menue entry without any knowledge if it was spelled correctly in advance. To reproduce: - Use e.g. Libre Office Writer (the Firefox Menue shew the same behavior) - Press ALT - try to insert a FOOTNOTE - press letters: foo - HUD shows 5 menue entries without footnote beeing included. infact it does not show 1 entry uncluding even foo* - complete the search string: the right entry does appear in the list of suggested entries not before the letters FOOTNO are entered. - In 12.04 and subsequent releases menue entries that fit the pattern show up immediately. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop
This is only going to happen for Qt apps, as they are still using the old DBusMenu protocol to export their menus. [Test Case] * Not reproducable so far. [Regression Potential] * Worst case is that somehow HUD doesn't work on the desktop and phone. * There are, obviously, extensive unit and functional tests to verify this doesn't happen. [Other Info] * The patch will report the offending application to errors.ubuntu.com with all available debugging information. * The indexes are now range checked before processing. As soon as a window sends any invalid message it is blocked. * Further hardening around the memory management in QtGMenu has been carried out. * The change is not as large as it at first appears. The majority of the diff is simply replacing Type* with QSharedPointer. The rest is the extra code for reporting the recoverable problem. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop
What I'm looking for is a way to cause this to happen by running a single application and performing a particular action in it. Even if it takes a number of tries that's fine. I just need to be able to trigger somewhat reliably within a few minutes. I know exactly the part of the codebase that is getting sent into this loop, but I simply don't understand how it's getting there. You can determine which application is the culprit by looking in "~/.cache/upstart/hud.log". In there you'll probably see it mentioning an application hitting a "safety value". The app will have an ID like ":1.22". If you use the application d-feet (see screenshot above) you will be able to figure out which application it is. The IDs are temporary, so if the window has closed, you won't be able to find out what application it was. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300722 Title: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a poll loop Status in Unity HUD: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: hud-service is polling like crazy: Context Switches: PID ProcessVoluntary Involuntary Total Ctxt Sw/Sec Ctxt Sw/Sec Ctxt Sw/Sec 2295 hud-service 46084.6342.94 46127.58 (very high) 2325 hud-service 0.09 0.00 0.09 (very low) 2329 hud-service 0.07 0.00 0.07 (very low) 2340 hud-service 0.05 0.00 0.05 (very low) Total 46084.8442.94 46127.78 File I/O operations: No file I/O operations detected. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1316978] Re: ubuntu-touch-session needs to be able to start even if the homedir is filled to 100%
I just felt the need to point out that unity8 doesn't really even use HUD any more (as of a week or so ago, the gesture to invoke HUD was disabled). So if HUD failing to load due to DBus failure blocks unity8 startup, we could probably just cut a few more cords in the unty8 codebase to prevent the HUD UI component from attempting to initialise HUD. Either by deleting the UI components, or by ensuring they don't load. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316978 Title: ubuntu-touch-session needs to be able to start even if the homedir is filled to 100% Status in Ubuntu CI Services: New Status in “android” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “dbus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “ubuntu-touch-session” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When the ~/phablet tree has media files added to it by the user, it is possible for the storage space to be filled, and consequently for the device not to boot. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1192646] Re: shouldn't list inactive items
Digging around the code a bit, it seems the problem is that we aren't reading the enabled status from the gmenumodel in menumodel-collector.c. I have no idea if this is possible (should be easy, right? but can't find a simple "enabled" attribute or anything obvious like that). The rest of the codebase understands the idea of enabled and disabled HUD items, so if we read and track the enabled status of the gmenumodel item, that should be it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1192646 Title: shouldn't list inactive items Status in Unity HUD: Confirmed Status in Unity HUD 13.10 series: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: That's happening with the current hud in saucy: - start gedit - open the hud - look for "undo" It lists the "undo" item from the edit menu, it shouldn't since there is nothing to undo and the menu item is greyed out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hud/+bug/1192646/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages Post to : dx-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~dx-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Dx-packages] [Bug 1253593] Re: hud memory usage grows over time
Thanks for this report guys. I am close to completing a significant overhaul to HUD, which should put a lid on these recurring memory leak issues. The reason you are seeing increased memory usage under normal conditions is because HUD had a voice recognition capability integrated into it for 13.10. This is never used on the desktop (it's only used on the phone), but because of the way I integrated it, it's running even though you can't actually use it with the "legacy" Unity7 user interface. Obviously this doesn't totally account for HUD using several hundred megabytes of memory. This is simply down to old fashioned memory leaks. In addition to a less leak-prone design, the revisions to HUD include splitting the voice engine out into its own service, which will only be started on the phone. Thus, your memory usage should go back down to similar levels as in 12.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1253593 Title: hud memory usage grows over time Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After five days of uptime hud-service used 749 MB of RAM. Restarting hud-service drops it memory usage to about 100-150 MB, on the next day it's using already 227 MB of RAM. I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 for developing Qt-based application. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1266464] Re: HUD "Super" and "Alt" shortcuts works through locked screen
The HUD project is just the back-end, it doesn't handle the user interface at all. ** Also affects: hud Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: hud ** Also affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: hud (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: unity Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1266464 Title: HUD "Super" and "Alt" shortcuts works through locked screen Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: To reproduce: 1. Lock screen (e.g. using Ctrl+Alt+L or corresponding option in menu). 2. Press Super (or Alt) key. 3. Enter password to unlock desktop. Expected behaviour: nothing on desktop should be changed. Observed behaviour: HUD menu pupped up, as if Alt or Super were pressed on desktop. I mark this bug report as security issue, because not sure is Super and Alt keys are only shortcuts that being passed to desktop, if other keys can be passed to desktop in any way it would be possible to run some command through HUD. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1300936] Re: weird results from HUD
I believe this is actually a bug presentation of the results in the Unity shell. Some quick debugging in HUD reveals that "enter" does, indeed, have the single, correct, result: QUERY = ("enter") suggestion "Enter Location… (Go)" It seems like the Unity widget that presents the results doesn't always handle resizing to only having a single result. If you repeatedly switch between "ente" and "enter", you will see it sometimes showing no results, and sometimes showing a single result. ** Changed in: hud (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: hud (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Pete Woods (pete-woods) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300936 Title: weird results from HUD Status in Unity: New Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: close all open application windows. tap alt. type enter =there are no results. [Dx-packages] [Bug 1300722] Re: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a pool loop
Yes, this is definitely a bug, I'm not claiming otherwise. To look up the application I would just use d-feet. Under the session bus, you can look up the connection name, and it will show you the process name at the bottom of the view. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of DX Packages, which is subscribed to hud in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300722 Title: hud-service is eating up 100% of one of my CPUs in a pool loop Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: hud-service is polling like crazy: Context Switches: PID ProcessVoluntary Involuntary Total Ctxt Sw/Sec Ctxt Sw/Sec Ctxt Sw/Sec 2295 hud-service 46084.6342.94 46127.58 (very high) 2325 hud-service 0.09 0.00 0.09 (very low) 2329 hud-service 0.07 0.00 0.07 (very low) 2340 hud-service 0.05 0.00 0.05 (very low) Total 46084.8442.94 46127.78 File I/O operations: No file I/O operations detected.
