Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

I have sometimes seen the red 20% icon, but it's very unreliable, and

Bug description:
When running an SDK app on the desktop, it's not possible to use the
touchscreen to move windows, use the launcher, etc. The SDK app seems
  to consume all touchscreen events.

  To reproduce:
  1) On a desktop/laptop with a touchscreen (I am using a Dell XPS13), install
14.04 and check that the touchscreen works for moving windows
  2) Install the camera-app package from universe (I have
2.9.1+14.04.20140331-0ubuntu1)
  3) Launch the camera app
  4) Touch once inside the camera-app window
  5) Use the touchscreen to drag the camera-app window

  Expected results:
You can move the camera-app window using the touchscreen

  Actual results:
You cannot move the camera-app window, or perform any other touch tasks in
unity, with the touchscreen

This only affects touchscreen input - mouse/touchpad input is not
  affected

This affects all apps written with the SDK (I tried camera-app,
  gallery-app, reminders-app). It's 100% reproducible.

In synaptic: search for overlay-scrollbar, right click and instead of
selecting "Mark for removal", select "Mark for complete removal". Now
click apply and /etc/X11/Xsession.d/81overlay-scrollbar will be removed
as well as the overlay scrollbar library.

  updating in Unity.

The output of the date command is correct and updating. I also have
automatic time update configured in the time settings.

If I kill the indicator-datetime-service process the time indicator
updates to the right value, then it changes seconds once or twice, but
  then it immediately freezes again.

I connected to it using strace but it seems frozen.

While frozen, the time and date settings will not appear while opened
from the time and date applet. The time is correct inside the multi-
  timezone view.

My settings can be seen in the screenshot attached to this bug. I can
provide more debugging information upon request.

  I am running:

  Ubuntu 14.04

  unity:
    Installed: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2
    Candidate: 7.2.0+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1.2

Title:
Upstream dconf db settings for Ibus do not work correctly with Ubuntu

Status in “ibus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Ubuntu has changed how it handles input switching and no longer relies
on the Ibus hotkey/trigger settings. The default upstream Ibus
keybindings for input switching, however, are still installed
  unchanged in Ubuntu.

As a result, Control+Space, the default Ibus keybinding for input
swithing, is needlessly set in the dconf db. This keybinding overrides
Control+Space in other applications, notably Emacs and Eclipse auto-
  complete.

The default dconf db settings for Ibus are loaded by
  /etc/dconf/db/ibus/00-upstream-settings. The default settings in
  question are:

  trigger=['Control+space', 'Zenkaku_Hankaku', 'Alt+Kanji', 'Alt+grave',
'Hangul', 'Alt+Release+Alt_R']
  triggers=['space']

It's hard for most users to figure this out and the problem could be
easily avoided by changing the default settings supplied from
  upstream.

  This applies to 12.04, 13.10, 14.04.

Hello,

I do use EWS, but I don't understand what does that have to do with

I will look into the bug #1311213 maybe I can figure it out.

Thanks!

Bug description:
Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1165420] Re: Unable to access indicators from HUD

2014-05-12 Thread Franko Burolo
The bug was reported a year ago, but they have hopefully just started
fixing it. First they told us this was a DESIGN DECISION, take a look at
commect #8. but days before the Trusty release Mark intervened, and then
he told us he was told it was a REGRESSION caused by some changes in
gtk... So go and figure out... :-/ Anyhow, I doubt they were doing
anything about it before Mark's intervention. But I do hope they really
are working on this now. Some more feedback from the people doing it
would also be nice. Since the HUD teams seems to be kind of autistic
towards bug reporters -- they don't communicate much about them, which
is pretty frustrating.

Title:
Unable to access indicators from HUD

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Confirmed
Status in Unity HUD:

Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 12.10 I was able to use HUD to access Messaging menu and Gwibber's
"Update Status" option there, making status updates to Twitter easy and fast.
I could also use HUD to change my status in Empathy from Available to Busy
and vice-versa.

In Ubuntu 13.04 Beta HUD no longer finds the "Update Status" option when
typing "Update Status" or "Update"
Also writing "Available" "Away" or "Busy" no longer gives any results.

Other indicators however are accessible and I can use HUD to Suspend
my computer or to view Skype status or Ubuntu one indicator options.

  Repeating:
  1. Press alt key to start HUD
  2. Write "Update status" or "Available"

  What was expected:
HUD should have shown options ether from Gwibber to Update Status or Empathy
to change status to Available both available from the messaging indicator.

  What happened:
  HUD didn't find any results.

  Notes:
  I have Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 64bit upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 64bits and I'm
using proprietary fglrx drivers.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-05-12 Thread DEDan
William, it can be download here (http://www.netup.ru/UTM5/demo.php)
after registration. Sorry, but i can't found english version of this
page.

I mean, after installing packages from PPA and then restart the computer
for some time it works great, but after a while, the characters no
longer be input as if the application freezes. However, I can freely
push the buttons and select menu items with the mouse cursor.

I do not know whether this problem to the above PPA or not, but the fact
that the application performance deteriorates after installing PPA.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-05-12 Thread William Hua
DEDan, thanks. Are you using GNOME Shell or Unity? Also, it only happens
just in UTM5, not other applications?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1318702] Re: There's a black line/shadow over context menus

2014-05-12 Thread Stephen M. Webb
The black line is the drop shadow from the Unity Panel.

This bug is easily reproduced when right-clicking on a menu in a full-
screen application. the context menu does not have to be the whole
height of the screen, it just have its top drawn higher on the screen
than the bottom of the Unity Panel.

Scrollbar not visible when it's the only child in a container

Status in Overlay Scrollbar:
  New
Status in “overlay-scrollbar” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu 13.04 (overlay-scrollbars
0.2.16+r359daily13.02.06-0ubuntu1). We have a GtkScrollbar that is
managed "manually" in it's own container (GtkFixed). The size of the
scrollbar is requested in order to allocate the right size for the
container. However, because overlay scrollbar always request 0 width
(or height for horizontal), the container is shrunk and the scrollbar
is not visible. So, I think the scrollbar should at least request
BAR_WIDTH when it knows it's alone in a container. There is also a
problem with the scrollbar getting allocated to 0 position (x or y)
and then being offset to -3 (BAR_SIZE) in
hijacked_scrollbar_size_allocate. I think those should be clamped to
  be >= 0.

  A bit of background:
The application demonstrating this bug is Eclipse using the Lttng plug-in.
Eclipse uses the SWT library which interfaces with GTK. It maps GridLayout (a
bit like a table) to GtkFixed containers. It allocates the cells by requesting
the size of gtk widgets (gtk_xyz_size_request) then allocating the container
size. The bug appears in the TMF events editor because a virtual table is used
so the scrollar bar has to be managed "manually" in its own container.

I will submit a fix and screenshots.

that trigger this problem. Opening and closing them, switching around,
and generally trying to operate the program hasn't caused it to happen
for me yet. :(

If I could only reproduce this somehow, I could fix it!

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1174054] Re: "Always on top" breaks spread/expose

I think Alistair is correct: I have no Black rectangle issue (not using
nvidia), but "always on top" is certainly broken in the way the OP
described.

Title:
  "Always on top" breaks spread/expose

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open three windows of one application, eg three gnome-terminal windows, by
middle clicking the launcher icon three times.
  2. Minimize all three windows.
  3. Left click the unity launcher for gnome-terminal once. This should reveal
a single terminal window.
  4. Right click the terminal window title and click "always on top"
  5. Minimize the terminal window.
  6. Left click the unity launch of gnome-terminal once. The window you just
marked "always on top" should unminimize.
  7. Left click the launcher icon of gnome-terminal again.

  What is supposed to happen:
All three terminal windows should be shown in spread/expose mode to allow you
to select one of them.

  What actually happens:
  Nothing at all.

Additionally, raising those windows some other way (eg with alt-tab)
sometimes leads to them displaying as empty black rectangles with
  window decorations.

After upgrading Ubuntu to 14.04 I noticed that the time is often not

automatic time update configured in the time settings.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1318334] Re: Most of the launcher and top bar freeze occasionally

2014-05-12 Thread Alexander Adam
Yes it is a dual screen configuration (DELL UX2711 on an ASUS UX31A) but I have
to admit that I have no reliable way to reproduce the problem for now.
Sometimes 'it just happens'.

Yesterday the problem was 'fixed' as I locked the screen and unlocked it
again.

I have no idea wether this is relevant, but I have to execute some
xrandr commands for using the correct resolution for the monitor (also
described in another bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-settings-
daemon/+bug/1310745 )

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1291461] Re: Lockscreen: keyboard layout switching shortcuts not working

2014-05-12 Thread Valeriy Fedotov
I am used to shift+shift combination for layout switching.

When I set 'shift+shift L' for switching, in unlock screen right shift
does nothing, and pressing only left shift (without any other keys)
changes layout.

When I set 'shift+shift R' for switching right shift starts switch
layouts alone in unlock screen.

And when I set 'Alt + shift L', Alt and then Shift works OK, and Shift
then Alt does not.

Hope this helps.

Lockscreen: keyboard layout switching shortcuts not working

Status in Unity:
  In Progress
Status in Unity 7.2 series:
  In Progress
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]
New Unity Lockscreen has the same problem as the old one from Gnome: the
chosen keyboard shortcut is not switching keyboard layouts on it, the only way
is to use mouse.

  [Test Case]
  1. To make things uncomfortable, switch layout to Russian or any other with
your favourite shortcut(i am using alt-shift)
  2. Lock the screen with ctrl-alt-l
  3. Try to change layout back to English to enter password
  Expected:
Layput should change and you should be able to login without touching
anything but keyboard.
  What's happening:
Nothing, doesn't react on the keyboard shortcut, you have to change layout
using indicator on top panel.

  [Regression Potential]
  1. There may potentially be missing keyboard shorts.
  2. Key grabs may persist after the lockscreen has been released.
  3. new code contains dynamic memory allocation, which always introduces
potential leaks, crashes, or exhaustion

[Dx-packages] [Bug 998285] Re: Tapping alt-tab switches between windows of the same application sometimes

2014-05-12 Thread Treviño
Sorry, but this is not a bug.

What is described here is the wanted design: unity switcher always selects the
last used window of the previously used application.
Then, if you were using application A1, then you switch to application B1, a
single Alt-Tab will move you back to A1. Instead if you move from A1 to A2,
then a single Alt-Tab must move you back to A1, since the current application
is the same of the previous one (in this case A = B).

We might accept an option (off by default) that allows to always use the
Alt+Tab to only switch between applications, though.

Tapping alt-tab switches between windows of the same application

Status in Unity:
  Won't Fix
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Normally, tapping alt-tab switches between applications, and tapping
alt-` switches between windows of the front-most application. However,
if the two front-most windows are from the same application, then alt-
tab will switch between these windows instead, instead of moving to
the second-front-most application. Hence, in this case, alt-tab
  duplicates the action of alt-`.

  Here is an example:
  1) create the stack with two nautilus windows at the top, e.g. Nautilus
window 1 (N1), Nautilus window 2 (N2), and Firefox window (F1) (but you can use
any applications). Create the stack either by [clicking F1, N2, N1] or
[switching to Nautilus with alt-tab, then alt-` to the other Nautilus window].
  2) Tap alt-tab.

What happens: I switch to the other nautilus window.

What I expected: to switch to the other application (i.e. Firefox).

Bug description:
  [Impact]
A fullscreen window set to "always on top" hides the lockscreem.

  [Test Case]
  (1) Open a video in Totem
  (2) Right-click on the titlebar and set Totem to "Always on Top"
  (3) Make Totem full screen (eg. with the F11 key or clicking on the control)
  (4) Manually Lock the screen using Super+L
  (5) Notice that the lockscreen is hidden by totem.

If you don't lock it manually and just pause the video and let it lock
automatically this will show the same behavior.

The same behavior occurs with any application that can enter full
  screen mode.

[Regression Potential]Two cases may potentially source regressions.
  (1) windows that need to appear above the lockscreen, such as on-screen
keyboards,
  (2) applications presenting fullscreen windows using unusual or non-standard
toolkits. It is unlikely that regressions in either of these cases would be
introduced by this bug fix, but rather would be pre-existing problems not fixed
here.
  (3) Indicator menus might be not being drawn

Title:
Lockscreen: keyboard layout switching shortcuts not working

Status in Unity:
  In Progress
Status in Unity 7.2 series:
  In Progress
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]
New Unity Lockscreen has the same problem as the old one from Gnome: the
chosen keyboard shortcut is not switching keyboard layouts on it, the only way
is to use mouse.

  [Test Case]
  1. To make things uncomfortable, switch layout to Russian or any other with
your favourite shortcut(i am using alt-shift)
  2. Lock the screen with ctrl-alt-l
  3. Try to change layout back to English to enter password
  Expected:
Layput should change and you should be able to login without touching
anything but keyboard.
  What's happening:
Nothing, doesn't react on the keyboard shortcut, you have to change layout
using indicator on top panel.

  [Regression Potential]
  1. There may potentially be missing keyboard shorts.
  2. Key grabs may persist after the lockscreen has been released.
  3. new code contains dynamic memory allocation, which always introduces
potential leaks, crashes, or exhaustion

Title:
xpathselect attribute matching doesn't match anything other than
  object Ids

Status in Unity:
  In Progress
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I came across this issue while testing an autopilot branch of mine.

The xpathselect server-side matching (as opposed to matching in the
autopilot python code) is not working as expected.

  To reproduce:
- Save this code as test_selection_attributes.py -
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7252495/
- (with the unity-autopilot package installed) run: `autopilot run
test_selection_attributes`

This script contains 2 tests, one passes to prove that it can get a
Launcher that has the monitor attribute of 0, the 2nd test attempts to
select the Launcher object with attribute monitor=0 and fails.

We see in the unity logs:
   - "Unable to match 'monitor' against property of unknown integer type."

A bit of digging suggests that GetPropertyValue is returning an array
of values (Probably: Object type id, Value?) which means that, in
MatchIntegerProperty for instance, the values GVariantClass will never
be one of the Integer types.

Bug description:
When I try to log in with a wrong password, the string which informs
me about the wrong password is too long (I will attach a "screenshot")
it makes the password box enlarge, which makes the right end of it
(with the circle, that is spinning while logging in) disappear.

  [Test Case]
  (1) Log in to Unity
  (2) Set the local to German (Use the Language Support panel in System
Settings)
  (3) Bring up the lockscren (eg. using control-alt-L)
  (4) Attempt to unlock but enter an incorrect password

  [Regression Potential]
Rendering error message text in the password dialog has been modified. It is
possible the text may break incorrectly or the box may be incorrectly sized.

Every characters over U+AA60 will shown as '?' in dash.
It's critical to Korean user because every hangul character(Korean alphabet)

This fix modifies code added to prevent crashes in the Pango renderer when
composing certain Unicode characters in the Burmese code plane. It is likely
that the original problem is limited to that code plane, however it is possible
that a similar desktop crash could occur with other Unicode code planes in
which composite characters are rendered, including Hangul.

  1) Create a second account in the system
  2) While the first account is open, open a session with the second one
  3) Try to shutdown the system

  Expected results:
The system logs out instead of shutting down (ideally with a warning on why
it did that)

  Actual results:
The system shutdowns and unsaved data on session1 is lost

  [ Regression Potential]

  None.

  --
  Desired resolution:

  - Add a warning message informing the user that other users are logged in and
then shutting down will also close their sessions as proposed in the mockup
attached to comment #12
  - The warning message should be "Other users are currently logged in to this
computer, shutting down now will also close these other sessions"

  * UnityScreen: toggle activation of all the unity compiz actions when
locking the screen Also, make sure that the lockscreen views are
treated as "always-on-front" windows by nux (and this applies to
both visibility and events).
  * PanelService: emit an invalid EntryActivated signal if the menu
hasn't actually been shown In addition, if the menu is not visible
after the first popup call, try to show a menu without keyboard
focus. This will make possible to see menus also when there's a key-
grab (although they will be without keyboard support). Finally,
reset the menu state, if that failed.

onboard as exceptions Some code cleanup, factorizing similar code.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
After upgrading from Maverick to Natty, I can no longer use the Super
(windows) key in Virtual Machine Manager. Previously, as long as I had the
Virtual Machine Manager console window in the foreground, I could press the
Super key and the start menu would pop up. Since upgrading to Natty, this no
longer works, and the search box appears in the upper left.

  Also see bug #934921

  [Test Case]
  (1) Install virt-manager and qemu-system, create and boot a virtual machine
  (2) while in the virtual machine, press the Super key
Expected Result: the super key acts inside the VM
Actual Result: the super key acts in the host and the Unity Dash is displayed

  [regression Potential]
This patch plays with key grabs and ungrabs: the most likely potential for
regression is (a) the existing grabs continue and no fix obtains or (2) the
grab is not resumed when returning control from the VM and the Super key does
not invoke the Unity Dash.

Bug description:
  Hi,

I noticed that for languages that are written from right to left, the
unity interfaces stays the same. This is a little inconsistent with
other GNOME apps: the left sidebar with the launchers should be on the
right, and the top panel's items should be ordered from right to left.
The fact that now the menubar is rendered by unity makes it even more
bothering. The menus are rendered in reversed direction, and open to
the right instead of to the left.

  Freeze Exception Notes:
The exception is only for Unity 2D for which the RTL support is ready. The
code impact is fairly small and the user interface for non RTL languages is
left entirely untouched.

  = Unity =

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1310316] Re: Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly

2014-05-12 Thread Abdullah Enes ÜNAL
I have similar but different issue with my Ubuntu 14.04.

After I change the ratio, the scale ratio, to 0.75, all was well.
However after I login back, there was only texts scaled, there was no
scaled graphic items. When I scale again to back 1.0, all graphic items
got like 1.25 scaling.

I couldn't found a solution yet, but this scaling issues really harmful
for my eyes now.

Hope this help to find bug easily.

Regards,
Enes.

I have a MacBook pro with a Retina display. I have set the "Scale for
menu and title bars" setting (into Settings > Displays) to 1.5 to
make the UI looks good on my screen. That works very well. But
sometimes, usually after logging, all the fonts of the UI become much
  bigger.

When that happen I open unity tweat tool and notice that the text
scaling factor changed to 2.25. If I reset it to 1 the all the fonts
  go back to normal.

The problem does not happen all the time. I would say it happen one

2014-05-12 Thread Abdullah Enes ÜNAL
Hello again,

I resolve my problem by;

- Scale to max.
- Logout
- Login
- Scale to 1.0
- Logout
- Login

Now, there is no problem. I want to add a patch to resolve this issues
but new @launchpad. After some experience I would love to do.

Regards,
Enes.

Title:
  Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have a MacBook pro with a Retina display. I have set the "Scale for
menu and title bars" setting (into Settings > Displays) to 1.5 to
make the UI looks good on my screen. That works very well. But
sometimes, usually after logging, all the fonts of the UI become much
  bigger.

When that happen I open unity tweat tool and notice that the text
scaling factor changed to 2.25. If I reset it to 1 the all the fonts
  go back to normal.

The problem does not happen all the time. I would say it happen one
time out of three logging. It may also happen when installing
applications from the software center. I have yet to find a procedure
to reproduce it all the times.
