customization
How can I customize dia for default startup properties? Is there a configuration file in which things like text: default font, center/left/right text, size, color ruler on/off, etc. can be selected as default? Gernot D. Kleiter Dept. of Psychology Univ. A number of diagram defaults can be set in the Preferences dialog (for new diagrams), and default text attributes can be set by double-clicking the text icon and setting the properties there. -Lars -- Lars Clausen (http://shasta.cs.uiuc.edu/~lrclause)| Hårdgrim of Numenor "I do not agree with a word that you say, but I | will defend to the death your right to say it." | Where are we going, and --Evelyn Beatrice Hall paraphrasing Voltaire | what's with the handbasket? ___ Dia-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/dia-list FAQ at http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/faq.html Main page at http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia

Noob can't print right on Win32....
Hello! I'm just starting to play with Dia after much fighting with many other similar apps and I'm very happy. BUT printing is all messed up. When I print a page the right hand 2-3cm is chopped off. If I reset the print margins I see no diference. If I swap to landscape mode I see no difference (The orientation doesn't change) If I set landscape in Dia AND the printer Setup it's the right way around but still too big. If I change the scale I can make things *almost* the right size but I can never seem to get a diagram to stay on a single page. I'm working on Win32 using the installer from http://dia-installer.sourceforge.net/ (0.90) I'm in the US so I'm using letter sized paper. I'm using two networked printers, a HP LJIIISi and a HP LJ8500DN. I have installed GhostScript to try and trouble shoot but it looks like it's Dia's output that's wrong rather than the printsetup. Exported EPS files have chunks missing off of the sides. I've had a look through the mail archives and didn't find anything that really relates to the problems that I have been having. So does anyone have any advice? Is this a common problem? I don't want to go submitting bug reports for something that's just a product of my screwy machine. Any thoughts most welcome. > I'm in the US so I'm using letter sized paper. AFAIK, that is exactly your problem. US Letter is narrower than A4 so the on screen lines will be misleading. Hopefully you can workaround it. "The thing about standards is there are so many to choose from" Patches welcome of course but from my limited knowledge of Dia it is unlikely that this will be fixed anytime soon, same goes for a non-metric version of Dia. I wonder if Gnome Print works with Gtk only apps yet? i heard months ago that work was being done to seperate it from Gnome... I used to live in the UK and I've run across this one before ;) Infact ANSI A paper is .6cm wider and 1.8cm shorter. This is what confuzes me. If this was the problem the diagram should be to narrow and too long... not too wide. however this may be why I always get a blank sheet of paper with every print. Also when I change back to A4 (Page setup appears to have paper size support) the problem is still there (I'm using GhostScript to view)! And landscape mode is totaly whacked out no matter what the size.. I'm wondering if this is a Dia thing or a Win32 Dia thing. > Hopefully you can workaround it. What I've done in the past to work around this is set my page to letter in all places necessary, then gone to the page setup dialog, clicked "Fit to" 1 by 1, or whatever I wanted to fit to, then clicked back up to the scale option and reduced it slightly from there. It's kind of a hassle, but it seems less so that exporting to SVG and installing Adobe Illustrator or some such. Status report on dia ???
Hi, There has been a little quiet on the dia-list lately especially has there been far between the Changelog reports, which made me think a little on the status of dia-cvs. So, as a both interested and courious dia-user, would I like to know how far the different porting projects (Pango & GObject - any others) has come and what is missing to be completed. Are there any plugins in beta state which needs a hand to be working and (as good as) bugfree. SVG Import [Re: Noob can't print right on Win32....]
> I was trying to stay away from expensive bloatware by using Dia. Know of > any good SVG viewer/printers on Win32? The only free one I've found is the > Adobe SVG viewer and that only appears to work in IE. there are mozilla builds with SVG support but it is not great. To change the subject, I recently noticed that Dia.shape files are primarily SVG (and filed some bug reports requesting that Sketch and Sodipodi should be able to export dia.shapes). I spent a large chunk of yesterday evening taking SVG files from OpenOffice, and changing them into .shape files so that Dia would import them. All i had to do was put the svg: namespace in front of every SVG tag and change the colour values from rgb(0,0,0) to hexidecimal values then stick a few of the Dia tags and other bits and pieces in either side of it. Despite being really tedious and showing how desperately i need to learn a good scripting language it was easy and worked really well. How about turning on whatever SVG import there is in the next release? If Dia is at least able to import the SVG that Dia itself exports that should be plenty good enough to start with. I am trying to figure out how to get OpenOffice.org to batch convert WMF files to SVG and then i will have a huge amount of clipart with which to test the the SVG importer in Dia. I was also able to use the GDI in windows to paste shapes from Visio to OpenOffice and then export them as SVG, but as Dia would not be able to use these shapes it only served to prove an intersting possibility. Perhaps the windows version of Dia could make more use of GDI? (i dont intend to file a bug report or feature request for this though). Umm ... yeah, thinking out loud and stuff. I had better go and finished off at least one of the sets of shapes i have so that i can submit them if and when there is a release. Please let there be a release soon, compiling stuff scares me *. GObject porting of the renderers is done, except perhaps for some Win32 stuff, which I'm not sure of. I still have a horrible problem with the difference in font names between gdk (X) pango and pangoft2. I plan to either make standard X rendering use pangoft2 or trim the font namespace to those that match. Using pangoft2 all over requires more #hell because Win32 can't use freetype. Trimming the namespace is an ugly, ugly hack that's sure to break in a number of ways.
