Do you want to try adding native compilation your package?

It might help to provide a compatibility gsl2.6 package to ease the
transition if there are incompatible API changes as well.

R is currently being rebuilt in a side tag, I believe, so best to skip this one.

CPE Weekly Update – Week 32 2022

2022-08-12 Thread Lenka Segura
Hi everyone,

This is a weekly report from the CPE (Community Platform Engineering) Team.
If you have any questions or feedback, please respond to this report or
contact us on #redhat-cpe channel on libera.chat (https://libera.chat/).

Week: 8th - 12th August 2022

If you wish to read this in form of a blog post, check the post on Fedora
community blog:
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/?p=11316

# Highlights of the week

## Infrastructure & Release Engineering
Goal of this Initiative
---
Purpose of this team is to take care of day to day business regarding
CentOS and Fedora Infrastructure and Fedora release engineering work.
It’s responsible for services running in Fedora and CentOS infrastructure
and preparing things for the new Fedora release (mirrors, mass branching,
new namespaces etc.).
The ARC (which is a subset of the team) investigates possible initiatives
that CPE might take on.
Link to planning board: https://zlopez.fedorapeople.org/I&R-2022-08-10.pdf
Link to docs: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/infra/

Update
--

### Fedora Infra
* Some great nest talks and discussions, check them out on replay!
* Debugging instability in 32bit arm builders again. ;(
* Rebalanced the s390x builders.
* Business as usual

### CentOS Infra including CentOS CI
* koji/cbs.centos.org upgrade complete
* Kick off for Stream infra handover to I&R
* Adapted ansible baseline role to include workaround for Rsync issue on
CentOS Stream 8
* Enabled RHEL9 Buildroots on cbs/koji for SIGs

### Release Engineering
* Mass branching yesterday (f37 split off rawhide, which is now f38)

## CentOS Stream
Goal of this Initiative
---
This initiative is working on CentOS Stream/Emerging RHEL to make this new
distribution a reality. The goal of this initiative is to prepare the
ecosystem for the new CentOS Stream.

Updates
---
* Git source moved from git.centos.org to gitlab, for c8s modules.

## EPEL
Goal of this initiative
---
Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (or EPEL) is a Fedora Special Interest
Group that creates, maintains, and manages a high quality set of additional
packages for Enterprise Linux, including, but not limited to, Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS and Scientific Linux (SL), Oracle Linux
(OL).

EPEL packages are usually based on their Fedora counterparts and will never
conflict with or replace packages in the base Enterprise Linux
distributions. EPEL uses much of the same infrastructure as Fedora,
including buildsystem, bugzilla instance, updates manager, mirror manager
and more.

Updates
---
* EPEL9 is up to 7233 (+106) packages from 3207 (+27) source packages
* “State of EPEL” presentation at Nest conference, recording will be posted
to YouTube at a later date
* EPEL Survey has launched and is available through the end of August
https://tinyurl.com/epelsurvey2022
* epel-release has been improved with a recommends on
dnf-command(config-manager) to ensure crb enabling script can work out of
the box
* KDE Plasma updated from 5.23 to 5.24 (LTS release) in epel8-next and
epel9-next

## FMN replacement
Goal of this initiative
---
FMN (Fedora-Messaging-Notification) is a web application allowing users to
create filters on messages sent to (currently) fedmsg and forward these as
notifications on to email or IRC.
The goal of the initiative is mainly to add fedora-messaging schemas,
create a new UI for a better user experience and create a new service to
triage incoming messages to reduce the current message delivery lag
problem. Community will profit from speedier notifications based on own
preferences (IRC, Matrix, Email), unified fedora project to one message
service and human-readable results in Datagrepper.
Also, CPE tech debt will be significantly reduced by dropping the
maintenance of fedmsg altogether.

Updates
---
* Unit tests/coverage tests on frontend (Vue.js)
* Auth/OIDC work on both frontend and backend
* Initial backend connection via SQLAlchemy/fastAPI
* Basic functionality of connecting to FASJSON
* CI improvements and fixes

Kindest regards,
CPE Team

OK, I went ahead and submitted the bodhi request to merge the side-tag.

On F37, do you have any strong feelings about whether this should or
should not go in F37? If yes, we should probably do a similar side-tag
build.

The KiCad build in the side-tag completed, and I've tested it on x86_64 and
aarch64.  It all looks good, so I am fine with merging the side-tag.

Scott - What will be the process for getting this into F37?  I'm curious as to
the timeline so I can handle the changes there.

OK, I went ahead and submitted the bodhi request to merge the side-tag.

On F37, do you have any strong feelings about whether this should or should not
go in F37?  If yes, we should probably do a similar side-tag build.

Thanks for allowing us to have input on that, Scott.

I posted a message to the KiCad developers to get their comments, since I would
need their support to fix any bugs that might come up.

I'll forward their preferences as soon as I hear from them.

libsvm soname bump

2022-08-12 Thread Jerry James
Libsvm 3.3 is out, and comes with an soname bump. Consuming packages:
- clisp
- openms
- perl-Algorithm-SVM
- saga

I am doing test builds now. If all packages can be built with the new
version, then I will do the update after the gsl rebuilds are done
(since at least one of these packages also depends on gsl).

Non-responsive maintainer check for Igor Raits (ignatenkobrain)

2022-08-12 Thread Ben Beasley
I have opened a bug on python-parameterized,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2117916, initiating a
non-responsive maintainer check for Igor Raits, FAS ignatenkobrain. Does
anybody know how to contact Igor, or whether they are still actively
maintaining Fedora packages? I have sent an email to the email address
listed at https://accounts.fedoraproject.org/user/ignatenkobrain/.

It looks like Igor’s last login in FAS was 2021-03-31, and their last
package update in Bodhi was 2022-06-18. On
https://src.fedoraproject.org/user/ignatenkobrain, the last activity was
in mid-June. This would not be too concerning by itself, except that
Igor is primary or sole maintainer on a large number of packages, many
of which need attention.

Igor, if this message reaches you, I value and appreciate your
significant contributions to Fedora. It seems like your time for package
maintenance is oversubscribed. Please consider identifying packages that
you don’t have time to take care of—especially those without other
active maintainers—and either orphaning them or soliciting new
co-maintainers.

As recommended by
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Policy_for_nonresponsive_package_maintainers/#steps,
I am including links to other bug reports on apparently-neglected
packages. I apologize in advance for any errors or omissions in this
list, which was tabulated by hand.

Thanks for the pointer.

I haven't looked at that particular report yet. I have tried building
Mark Diekhans' branch "vm-emacs-28" instead of trunk. (Mark is
involved in the bug report I see.) That branch works on the first
start but all the warnings that get shown instead of the message and
one has to manually fix the presentation buffer.

On the second start however, when there are eln files in the home
directory, it fails to load complaining about the function "load"
having been called with 0 arguments. If I disable native compilation,
it keeps on working but the warning messages gets in the way every
time.

That is how far I have got. It's been a busy week, at work and
otherwise, since I discovered this and I haven't had time to do much
more debugging.

> Do you want to try adding native compilation your package?

I would like to in the long run, but my primary goal of course is to
get it working at all.

I actually had those CVE bugs on my radar, but didn't have the time to
do a full investigation.
I've closed the first two, since they actually can no longer affect
any Fedora packages (no application depends on the problematic crates,
or they don't enable the affected features).

The third one could only have affected some really old builds on
Fedora 35, since rust-nix had been updated for that CVE problem some
time before the Fedora 36 mass rebuild. And the f35 packages that I
spot checked had all been rebuilt for some reason or updated at some
point, so none of them were affected, either. And even if some package
that I happened to miss had its last build at the Fedora 35 mass
rebuild, it is unlikely that it actually used the affected API.
