SOE (Arrow Styles) file submission mechanism

2014-01-21 Thread l
Hello...

I've created numerous line ends (aka "Arrow Styles") that I'd like to
contribute. However, there's no method on the website for submitting this file
type (SOE).

I could submit as a template that downloaders could then save as a text file
with the right filename extension, I suppose. Seems unfortunately inelegant,
though.

A Forum moderator asked about submitting as an extension. But "arrow styles"
aren't a programmatic feature, nor even a GUI enhancement like a gallery
addition. They're just a text file (XML, as you prob. know). And the file
doesn't go in one of the standard user directories anyway.

Any ideas for a solution (or remote possibility of expanding submission
functionality)?

Re: SOE (Arrow Styles) file submission mechanism

2014-01-26 Thread l
What would be the next step after a "patch" submission. Wouldn't that get it
simply incorporated into the program?

I'd like to see it downloadable by users, a la Templates. I'd also like,
admittedly, credit for it, as it's a domain-specific thing for me. (In
comparison, the Templates section is plastered with a bunch of posts of DVD
label templates for Lulu.com, seemingly obviously an advertising ploy by them.)

 You can create an issue in Bugzilla, attach the files there,
 and then
 mark the issue type as a 'PATCH".  That will allow the
 developers to
 review it.

Some questions:
* Which component of Apache OpenOffice are you using?
* What are you doing, when colours are added;
* What are you doing, when colours are deleted;
* What specific colours are being removed;
* What specific colours are being added;
* What colour palette are you using?
* Have you added any colours to the colour palette you are using;
* Have you deleted any colours from that colour palette?

Testing of new version of Apache OpenOffice

2021-01-09 Thread Fredrik L
Hi,
I have a huge OpenOffice calc "application" including many ods files with basic
code and python code connected with each other.
If you want me to test any upcoming versions of Apache OpenOffice in the future
with my files that I have to see if anything seams out of the ordinary please
send me download links of where I can download upcoming versions of Apache
Openoffice and I will report any issues found. I primarily will test on Windows
10 but can also test on SparkyLinux if desired.

I also would like to thank everyone of you maintaining Apache OpenOffice as
Calc in LibreOffice is not an option for me. Too many times strange updates of
LibreOffice have made my code useless so I have given up on it. With Apache
OpenOffice my code just keeps running fine with every new release so far.

Review of the 4.1.2-patch1 MacOSX.README.txt file

2016-08-07 Thread William L. Anderson
Dennis Hamilton asked me to look at the 4.1.2-patch1 README file for Mac OSX.
I have done so and include the following information.

My test system info: OSX Version 10.11.6 "El Capitan"
   Hardware: Macbook Air (Late 2010)

==
(1) The text of the current MacOSX.README.txt file.

https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/openoffice/4.1.2-patch1/binaries/MacOSX/MacOSX.README.txt

1. Make sure that OpenOffice is not running.
2. Open a terminal and unpack the downloaded file (e.g., with Archive Utility
or WinZip Mac Edition) to an easily
   locatable path.
3. Open the Finder App - or another file manager of your choice.
4. Locate the installation path of OpenOffice (e.g.,
"/Applications/Utilities/OpenOffice4/program/").
5. Rename the old file "libtl.dylib" to "libtl.dylib.original" to keep a backup.
6. Copy the new file from the unpacked Zip file to the installation path
   (e.g, "/Desktop/libtl.dylib" -->
"/Applications/Utilities/OpenOffice4/program/").

===

(2) Suggested updates to that file.

1. OK AS WRITTEN

2. Download the "libtl.dylib" file to the Downloads folder (or any other folder
or to the Desktop)
2.1. Verify the download integrity: see UPDATE NEEDED below.

3. OK AS WRITTEN

4. Locate the installation path of OpenOffice (e.g.,
"/Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/program"

5. OK AS WRITTEN

6. Copy the new libtl.dylib file to the OpenOffice/Contents/program folder.
(Administrator privileges needed.)
   In the terminal these commands will work.

   $ cd ~/Downloads
   $ sudo cp -v libtl.dylib /Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/program

UPDATE NEEDED: need to provide the md5 and sha256 hash of the
libtl.dylib file. Many Mac users do not have any experience with GnuPG or
OpenPGP keys. However, the Mac comes with tools to verify md5 and sha256
hashes already installed. Those instructions can be added to the README.

===

(3) MacOSX instructions for how to update the dylib file without using a
Terminal window.

DIRECTIONS FOR UPDATING THE FILE WITHOUT USING A Terminal window.
Note: Mac users can NOT check file integrity without using a terminal window.

These instructions assume:
(1) that the user account has Administrator privileges; and
(2) that the file "libtl.dylib" was saved to the Downloads folder.

1. In the Finder select the Go menu on the Application menu bar (at
the top of the screen) and open a window to the Downloads folder.

2. In the Finder open another Finder window and in the sidebar select
the Applications folder.

   Hold down the "control" key and select the OpenOffice application.
   Select Show Package Contents from the drop-down menu.
   Open the Contents folder now displayed in the Finder window.
   Select and open the "program" folder displayed in the Finder window.
   Scroll through the list of files shown and find "libtl.dylib"
   Hold down the "control" key and select the "libtl.dylib" file.
   Select Duplicate from the drop-down menu.
   ( a file named "libtl copy.dylib" is created )
   Select the back button "<" from the Finder window top menu.
   ( the Finder displays the list of files and folders in the Contents folder )

3. Now select the Finder window showing the "Downloads" folder contents.

   Hold down the "control" key and select the "libtl.dylib" file.
   Select 'Copy "libtl.dylib"' from the drop-down menu.

   Select the other Finder window showing the list of files in the Contents
folder.

   Hold down the "control" key and select the "program" folder.
   Select "Paste Item" from the drop-down menu.

   A window appears with the message:
   An older item named "libtl.dylib" already exists in this
   location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you're
   moving?
   Select the "Replace" button.

===

I have tested the replacing the file both ways. AOO seems to start up without
problem with the new file in place.

Let me know how I can help further.

Re: Review of the 4.1.2-patch1 MacOSX.README.txt file

2016-08-08 Thread William L. Anderson
Kay, I have attached a ".txt" file that incorporates the changes suggested. Two
items are *not* included.

(1) There is a need to provide the md5 and sha256 hash of the
libtl.dylib file. Many Mac users do not have any experience with GnuPG or
OpenPGP keys. However, the Mac comes with tools to verify md5 and sha256
hashes already installed. Instructions on how to use them can be included
in the README file if that is desirable.

(2) Users who choose to use the Finder method of installing the new file
do not have any way to check signatures or hashes without using the
command line.

Let me know what more help I can provide.

Bill A

This file contains two sets of instructions. The first (I) outlines how to
install the new library file using a Terminal window and the command
line. The second (II) outlines how to install the new library file
using the Finder.

I. These directions assume (1) familiarity with using the command line
   in a Terminal window; and (2) that the user has adminstrator privileges.

I.1. Make sure that OpenOffice is not running.

I.2. Download the "libtl.dylib" file to the Downloads folder (or any
 other folder or to the Desktop).

I.3. Open the Finder App (or another file manager of your choice).

I.4. Determine the installation path of the OpenOffice program files;
  (the default path is "/Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/program/").

I.5. Rename the old file "libtl.dylib" to "libtl.dylib.original" to keep
 a backup.

I.6. Copy the new libtl.dylib file to the OpenOffice/Contents/program
 folder. (Administrator privileges needed.)

   In a terminal window these commands will accomplish the file copy.

   $ cd ~/Downloads
   $ sudo cp -v libtl.dylib /Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/program

II. Directions for updating the file without using a Terminal window.
These instructions assume:
(1) that the user account has Administrator privileges; and
(2) that the file "libtl.dylib" was saved to the Downloads folder.

II.1. In the Finder select the Go menu on the Application menu bar (at
  the top of the screen) and open a window to the Downloads folder.

II.2.

II.3.

Starting Introduction to Contributing to Apache OpenOffice Module

2014-05-05 Thread Carroll L. Rockwell
Hi,

My name is C L Rockwell commonly known as Rocky Rockwell. I am a 71 year
old male that is very computer oriented. My brother and I used to construct
computers (prior to Dell), test them, load them with software and sell them.
I was the software expert where my brother was the hardware guy. We sort of
cross-trained each other in each of our skills.

I retired in 1996 after 33 years with AT&T. With AT&T, I was in engineering
most of my career. The last 4 to 6 years, I was in tech support for my
division. I helped engineers when they had a problem with their work
stations. When we went to networked pc’s, I taught the engineers with the
software loaded on these computers. The software was a lot like Microsoft
Office. There were applications like MS Word, Spreadsheet and database.
The last year of my career, I was taught HTML (had 1 ½ hour training
session) and I created an Intra-office web system that allowed tracking of
major projects online.

After I retired is when my brother and I started our little computer
business in Tucson, Arizona.

I am pretty well versed in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Sirs/Madams,

I am truly grateful for what you and your developers have done and for the
efforts you all did for the software. Your efforts are appreciated. I hope
you are all doing well. Take care of yourselves.

Forum log in problem, Locked out

2016-06-30 Thread L P Luigi Espenlaub
I hope some one can help me.
I have not logged in or even been to
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/ucp.php?mode=login
for several months.
When I logged in the first time, I was informed:

You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to
your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below.

After several attempts at solving the CAPTCHA I each time received the same
message.
I tried the "Send password" option and was informed:

The e-mail/username information submitted could not be found.

So I tried re-registering and got this:

The username you entered is already in use, please select an alternative.
The entered e-mail address is already in use.

Say What!
Just did all this again so I could copy and paste the exact messages.
I've almost forgotten the question I wanted to find an answer to.
If you are the wrong person, please forward this to the right one and/or
give me the correct email address.

Yours, Thoroughly Confused,
