With my AOO hat, the forums were good a few hours ago.

Chris I know from Slack that there were Infra issues with LDAP at
this time along with lots of EMail Spam.

The Forums do use Infra’s MySQL server, in retrospect how was
this
server doing during these service issues?

Can't download updates

2020-01-24 Thread Alvin Armbruster
I receive a message that download failed for update for open office. How do I
receive a current update for Open Office?

Thank you.

Re: Can't download updates

2020-01-24 Thread F C. Costero
You can go to the web page http://www.openoffice.org/download/, choose the
appropriate operating system and language and then click on Download Full
Installation. You will be redirected to a page on SourceForge where the
download will start automatically. You do not need to click anything on the
SourceForge page.
If you still have problems, it would be best to ask on the users mailing
list or on the forum at https://forum.openoffice.org/en/. This is a list
for developers.
Best regards,
Francis

no, only spam attachemnts but not comments (see here [1]).

I've disabled the user's account. But that's all we can do.
When it would be a new issue and starting with spam, then we can hide
it, so that the public cannot see it.

That's sad, because the spammer gets all he wants: His links remain
visible for every user and search engine...

But how about making these comments invisible for normal users? [1]

I would say just open a Jira issue and ask what things are possible for
us or Infra. Maybe with a bit more thinking more possibilities get visible.

Hi Dave,

Can you also have a look at "Weierstraß-p" (Unicode U+2118).
In Writer and Math (only Windows, not Linux) the descender appears
slightly truncated.

Also, on Windows 10 OpenSymbol seems to be substituted by some MS font.
Windows 7 still shows OpenSymbol.
That might be a bug in Windows 10 but maybe we can get around this
somehow.

I am very, very rusty. (About 15 years)  Point me towards some
sources and I’ll see if I can help.

What we have in our source is the TTF itself and an older SFD:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/trunk/main/extras/source/truetype/symbol/

I see. I did a quick look and comparison with FontBook on my Mac.
They are definitely different. I am not even sure that the patched
font from the Forum is encoded the same way as the sample shows
different characters.

From the thread it looks like the patched font has misplaced the
Greek Letters. Let me see if I can provide a version 2.5 of
OpenSymbol that can find the updated square root and brackets while
preserving the encoding.

I’ve used FontForge to play with Fonts, but I cannot get it to work
on my current macOS. I do have a version of 10.7 which I will try
later this week.

Dave

Bugzilla has been updated to a newer version in between and you have
much more rights on it than I have...

Maybe you can see something like the referenced "insider group"?

Yes, that was an older version of OpenSymbol "hacked" as a workaround.

But I fear that he gave up after all these years...
