First of all thank you for the nomination and the trust in me that I
could be a good candidate. I would have been interested for sure earlier
or potentially in the future but at this time I won't be available for
the election.

Although I am involved in the project since the beginning and already
before the source code was open sourced I have switched some priorities
and my work focus a bit. I believe that I would not have enough time to
help the project moving forward in the near future.

I am looking forward that somebody else grows in the role of the PMC
chair and takes more responsibility. My wish is that the next PMC chair
will be active in the project and will help to drive things forward
together with the PMC. The most important goal is to activate developers
and improve the product in critical areas.

Re: Committer with Mac OS X environment needed

2015-01-08 Thread Thorsten Wagner
Hi Michael,

the Mac icons (.icns) have to be replaced in main/sysui/desktop/icons. As
Windows uses it’s own icons which are not modified, but located in the same
directory (.ico), there should be no impact to Windows builds. For Mac OS X
OpenOffice has to be recompiled with the replaced icons.

@ all:

Updated icons are included up to 256 x 256 pixels. Icons at 512 x 512 pixels as
well as icons at 1024 x 1024 pixels are currently not available (needed for
retina readiness). They can be created easily with the vector image sources.
Unfortunatly these sources are not available - or I wasn't able to find them.

Is anyone able to supply the vector image sources of the current icons?

Best regards

Thorsten

I'll decline my nomination, though I did give it serious consideration
and am gratified to be nominated.

a) I don't think I can reliably meet the time commitment that this
role would require.

b) I think that progress within the larger ecosystem will require
rapprochement with the less ideological elements of the LibreOffice
community. My past statements and writings make me too much of an
obstacle in that respect, allowing those with more radical views to
block the natural accommodation that should be occurring between these
two communities.

c) I think I can better serve the project, as I have, in other ways.

I've generally been focused on:

a) Social media -- I manage the Facebook, Twitter and Google+ accounts.

b) Analytics and SEO for our website

c) Track downloads and similar stats

d) Blogging

e) Materials to help new volunteers get started on the project

f) Bugzilla Admin

g) Moderator for many of the mailing lists.

In general, what I do helps amplify the visibility and recognition of
the good work that our committers do in new AOO releases. I'm hoping
we soon get a Release Manager volunteer, and make progress on a new
release so I can be busy again in the above areas.

Re: svn commit: r1650187 - /openoffice/trunk/main/external_deps.lst

+# OOO_EXTRAS=http://ooo-extras.apache-extras.org.codespot.com/files/
+
+OOO_EXTRAS=http://sourceforge.net/projects/oooextras.mirror/files/

This part needs consensus. This replaces Apache Extras with a
SourceForge space that I had understood to be temporary, pending
evaluation by the Apache Board. Maybe Roberto can tell us more about the
status of this "oooextras.mirror" project, and especially if the URL is
to be considered final or not. If it isn't, I recommend that we use the
final one instead (more below).

  if (WITH_CATA_FONTS == YES)
-MD5 = f872f4ac066433d8ff92f5e316b36ff9
-name = dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.33.zip
-URL1 =
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dejavu/files/dejavu/2.33/dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.33.zip/download
-URL2 = $(OOO_EXTRAS)$(MD5)-$(name)
+MD5 = 161462de16e2ca79873bc2b0d2e6c74c
+name = dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.34.tar.bz2
+URL1 =
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dejavu/files/dejavu/2.34/dejavu-fonts-ttf-2.34.tar.bz2/download
+# URL2 = $(OOO_EXTRAS)$(MD5)-$(name)

This (the missing URL2) violates an assumption that we could do so far,
i.e., that the OpenOffice build process requires only two sites to be
available, Apache Extras (for libraries, fonts...) and the Extensions
site (for bundled dictionaries). So, as soon as we know more about the
"new" OpenOffice Extras at SourceForge, someone from the project should
be given write access to it so that we can upload the package there and
populate URL2 correctly.

The commit should not be reverted: I'm simply suggesting actions that
are need to make this change stable. So far I wouldn't be happy to have
this in a release.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. I'm no UI expert but I
do like the patched version. It feels calmer, if that makes sense. I'll
post a notice on the English forum in an attempt to get more people to
express an opinion.
Best regards,
Francis.

the pending review request
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=125989 is about a change
in the visual style of the side bar. We do not have a special "Design"
group and I do not want to decide alone. So please have a look at
screenshots in that issue.

I'm not a design specialist, so the following is my personal opinion:

To be honest, I don't care too much. I don't see a real benefit when the
group highlighting is visible or not. IMHO the highlightning is not a
big eye-catcher to make a difference. *)

However, we really need an update in the general UI. So, when others
also think it's a good idea - and a starting point for UI improvements -
, then OK let's do it.

Furthermore when it's improving the consistency then it's also an
argument to remove it in the sidebar.

Is this a problem, I should forward to the users mailing list?

If you want to have more opinions then yes. But please remember:
Decisions are done in the dev@ mailing list. ;-)
