I understand the 'lateness' of my testing.
I did not see a [MERGE] request for this important new feature and searching on
the dev mailing list I did not find one, maybe I missed it.

The only thing I found was the wiki page:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Update+UI+visual+appearance

and the bug
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-4748

The bug mentions the 'ui-restyle' branch, the version being affected is not
specified. But the Basic reskin has been solved 5158 and applied to 4.3:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-5158 (too bad there is no
commit message or merge request link in the bug, that would be nice).
5158 seems to be a work around using the existing CSS due to the complexity of
the refactor.

My point is that if it's still a work in progress why pushing it to 4.3 ? You
can keep on working in the feature branch and once it's ready call a 'MERGE'
request to give a chance to everyone to give feedback and file bugs.

I hope to see a 'MERGE' request for what will be in 4.4.

VXLAN problems

2014-01-19 Thread Nux!

Hi,

I'm currently trying to play with VXLAN on 4.3.0 SNAPSHOT. I am however
encountering some issues:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-5908

Besides this, I did not find any documentation for this feature at all.
What are the requirements of getting this to work?
Clearly we need VXLAN support in kernel, but other than this? I see OVS
is not required, but I'm mostly stabbing in the dark here.

Help :)

Re: DB upgrade fails on 4.3

2014-01-19 Thread Daan Hoogland
Lucian,

I read your ticket and think that playing with a snapshot is the
problem most likely. To be sure you might want to setup your env
(including vms) on a clean 4.2.1 and see if it happens then. The db
upgrade scheme we use is not repeatable and on a snapshot you might
have missed or gotten statements extra in comparison with the release.

I think (for a while now) we shoot device a per commit up and
downgrade scheme so moving from snapshot to snapshot becomes possible
as well. I got inspiration from the django on rail kind of frameworks
that can do this kind of db maintenance. Would be really cool to have
this.

Your 4.2.1 snapshot most probably has the db upgrade line for this
'related' column that is also in the 4.3 upgrade scripts. If you have
the commit you used (or maybe even with the date) you can make sure.

Daan

Re: VXLAN problems

2014-01-19 Thread Marcus Sorensen
You probably need an IP address on the physical network that you're
running vxlan on, since this host needs to communicate with other
hosts to send vxlan packets. Where prevously you could just bring up a
bridge on an ethernet interface with no config, you can put all of
your hosts on one untagged vlan, give them all ip addresses, and then
the vxlan networks will flow over that. You can also use your
physical interface name for the traffic label, if you have no other
need for that bridge.

Yes, there's no support for upgrading between dev builds, as the
schema is changing often. Devs start fresh with the current db schema
as they work on features. Upgrade scripts are only created between
release schemas.

If it helps at all, in the past when i've run into this I've edited
the script to comment out the line that errored, and everything prior
to it, then restarted the mgmt server so it could pick up the upgrade
where it left off. It sometimes takes 2-3 times, but you essentially
just skip over whatever has already been done until it works.

CLVM volumes shown under the wrong hypervisor type (OVM)

There doesn't seem to be any lack of functionality with these volumes,

Anyone else having trouble starting up a VM in 4.3?

2014-01-19 Thread Mike Tutkowski
Hi,

I rebased on top of 4.3 yesterday (previous rebase on top of 4.3 was just a
few days earlier) and now I get an "Insufficient Space" exception when
trying to start up a VM.

Anyone else having this trouble?

I didn't dig into this too deeply, though...perhaps there was a schema
change and I'll need to re-create my environment for this to work. I just
sort of doubted a schema change happened this late in the 4.3 release, so
thought it might be something else.

Thanks

2014-01-19 Thread Paul Angus
Thanks Donal,

I'll add some info in the wiki, although I'll check the validity of what I've
been doing with you guys before telling everyone else what they should be doing.

In the meantime - has something changed in the way CloudStack contacts the
agent in hyper-v in the last 3 days? I suddenly can't add a hyper-v host to
CloudStack. I get an error which suggests either an SSL error or a host
connectivity issue. The only thing I changed was using an updated build of the
management server - the hyper-v host was a rolled-back snapshot, so I know it
is identical to the last time I added it...

Subject: Hyper-V Issues

Hi Paul,

Thanks for trying out the Hyper-V agent over the last couple of weeks! I'm not
always able to help you with the problems, so I've compiled a list of resources
below to help with problems, collaboration and documentation.

For problems you see, there is a team in Bangalore dedicated to polishing up
the Hyper-V agent. They have been following up on the issues you've found.
However, I've included the email of team lead, Devdeep Singh, in the CC if you
want him to take a look at a specific JIRA issue you've created.

For collaborating to provide user guidance, there is a wiki at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Hyper-V+Community+Tips+and+FAQ
It's a good place to accumulate gotchas that you, myself and other users
come across. It's pretty empty at the moment, so make any additions or edits
you want.

For documentation, there are Hyper-V sections in docs repo. In
https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf?p=cloudstack-docs.git;a=tree;f=en-US;h=5fdde1c7134b675e4ede9f13b01e937406adc92e;hb=e8359806e3bbb49292deedb5bca11dc7ab0c9b7a
files matching "hyperv-" tend to be Hyper-V related; however, I think a JIRA

Thanks Sebastien.

@Hyperv-people

I ran the new commands in the wiki

But I still get the same identical error, are there any other steps required?

Re: Anyone else having trouble starting up a VM in 4.3?

2014-01-19 Thread Mike Tutkowski
Hi,

Yeah, I just wanted to see first if anyone else had observed this issue.

I have re-created my environment from scratch. The SSVM and CPVM start;
however, I cannot start up a user VM.

I have to head out for a bit, but can attach my logs when I return.

Thanks

Forget that I built a new agent as well and I can connect again. I'll try an
advanced network now.

Thanks Sebastien.

@Hyperv-people

I ran the new commands in the wiki

PS C:\Users\Administrator> New-SelfSignedCertificate -DnsName apachecloudstack
-CertStoreLocation Cert:\LocalMachine\M
Directory: Microsoft.PowerShell.Security\Certificate::LocalMachine\My
ThumbprintSubject
-----
32BF5F505947B083E4CBDD9FDB2487CC8F133DF1 CN=apachecloudstack

PS C:\Users\Administrator> netsh http add sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:8250
certhash=32BF5F505947B083E4CBDD9FDB2487CC8F133DF1
appid="{727beb1c-6e7c-49b2-8fbd-f03dbe481b08}"
SSL Certificate successfully added

But I still get the same identical error, are there any other steps required?
The windows firewall is shutdown.

SSH issue in SG enabled advanced zone

2014-01-19 Thread Gaurav Aradhye
Hello all,

I am facing issue while SSHing to VM in security groups enabled advanced
zone (XenServer host) even after applying the ingress rule for the security
group in which VM is deployed.

Also, even if I can see the ingress rule being applied through API listing
and on UI, I can't see the iptables on host being updated after
adding/removing ingress rule.

Is there any existing problem with XenServer regarding this? I read on few
blogs about some people encountering similar issue with Xenserver. I have
not yet tried on KVM.

The output of command "iptables -L -v -n" on host is as following.

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
