[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1645160] Re: Bug/deffect on "save": under file

2017-01-07 Thread Adolfo Jayme
This is an intentional change. The icon no longer grays out on saving,
but it now changes its appearance to indicate that there are unsaved
changes (a star or dot appears over it, depending on your icon theme)
when appropriate.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654722] [NEW] Ubuntu Touch: No sound on speakers but OK on headset

2017-01-07 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Public bug reported:

Since a couple of days ago I have lost all sound on the speakers of the phone
(no application plays any sound, no ringtones, notifications), but sounds can

I tried to remove .config/pulse completely and restart, but no progress. I
attach the file
ubuntu-phablet-stream-volumes.tdb
which was there before removing the folder and restarting.

But at least I got rid of my pulseaudio config :-)

In 14.10, I was able to set the output profile either to a2dp or

In 15.04, it only works in telephony duplex mode. I can't get high

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1573619] Re: Signing with GPG fails (regression)

2017-01-07 Thread Steffen Neumann
Searching some more, I found that the problem seems to be due to broken
gnome-keyring pgp support. If I don't save the passphrase in the keyring,
evolution can send signed mail.
So this should be handled together with gnome-keyring people.

Bug description:
  Hi,

I have a fresh install of 16.04 since several weeks, and regularly apply
updates.
Somewhere along the lines Evolution stopped to sign a mail with gpg, instead
  I get the error message:

    Because "gpg: writing to '-'
gpg: signing failed: No passphrase given
gpg: signing failed: No passphrase given
", you may need to select different mail options.

note the double "gpg: signing failed. Unsure if that is relevant.

gpg --list-keys works, and has the key I have in Prefs -> Mail
  Accounts -> Edit -> Security

Originally, I got a popup asking for my gpg passphrase, I don't get
that since some update anymore. I'd suspect that is the cluprit.

There is a process gpg-agent running:
  gpg-agent --homedir /home/sneumann/.gnupg --use-standard-socket --daemon

=> How to manually invoke the gpg signing with window asking for passphrase ?
Can I check that gpg-agent does what it is supposed to ?

  Yours,
  Steffen

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654703] Re: /usr/share/doc/fig2dev/CHANGES.gz is a broken symlink

2017-01-07 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
I looked a bit more into this issue and planned to forward the issue to
Debian, but I discovered that the symlink is only broken in Ubuntu.
Comparing the filelist for the package in Debian Sid [1] and Ubuntu
Zesty [2], we can see that /usr/share/doc/fig2dev/changelog.gz is
included on the Debian side, but is not present when the package is
rebuilt on Ubuntu.

I'm going out on a limb here, but it looks like the following line
dh_installchangelogs -k CHANGES
in the rules file [3] is responsible for creating the symlink. So maybe there's
a slight difference in this which is somehow causing this issue. I've taken the
liberty of marking this as also affecting debhelper, but feel free to reassign
if this is wrong or I'm missing something obvious.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1647133] Re: dns=dnsmasq does not work any more

2017-01-07 Thread Harry
This bug is now solved with the latest network-manager v. 1.4.2-3ubuntu2 in
Zesty.
Here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/1.4.2-3ubuntu2

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu)

Title:
dns=dnsmasq does not work any more

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Network-manager will make my network connection immediately lost after
updating to the newest version 1.4.2-2ubuntu4.
However, downgrading to the previous version 1.4.2-2ubuntu3 the network
connection is back again and fine. If, with this version, I remove the file
(link) /etc/resolv.conf the network is broken again. Rebooting solves this, as
network-manager creates a new resolv.conf file.

The newest version 1.4.2-2ubuntu4 also creates the very same kind of
  file, but no network.

I have the latest (Gnome-shell DE) updates installed and of course all
packages that network-manager depends on. But not the ones it only recommends
or suggests.
Should I have resolvconf installed? I think not, as isc-dhcp-client only
suggests it.

Olivier, could you tell us which Deja-dup version is it (search for example the
deja-dup package in Synaptic)?
Also, could you verify if it is the stable release or a daily unstable release
through PPA (https://launchpad.net/~deja-dup-team/+archive/testing)?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654772] [NEW] Lost one screen from triple multi monitor radeon setup.

2017-01-07 Thread Ewano
Public bug reported:

I have been running a stock Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with three monitors from a
single Radeon HD 7770 card with no problems.

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

After not having used my system since approximately 20/12/2016, I used a
simple script on 03/01/2017 to run updates then shut down the system as
follows:

apt-get update
apt-get -y dist-upgrade
apt-get -y autoremove
shutdown -P now

Upon next start up, one of my screens remains dark in power saving mode.
This screen is connected using a displayport cable.

At boot the BIOS splash screen is shown on the affected screen. During
the boot process the screen is active until the login screen is
presented - at which point the screen enters power saving mode.

Using the print screen to capture an image of my desktop, I can see that
desktop is active and application windows are being created just fine.
The monitor screen in question remains in power saving mode, and is
unusable.

I tested with an alternate existing install on different hard drive
which had also not been updated for some time. I swapped over the hard
drive to this machine, let it boot through to a correctly functioning
desktop to verify that there was no hardware fault. Once I had verified
that the hardware functioned correctly, I again ran updates and rebooted
the machine. After update this installation also exhibited the fault.

I can only assume that a bug has been introduced during the updates
supplied between 20/12/2016 and 03/01/2017.

It appears to be a problem with permissions. I fixed the problems by
changing the "rpc-username" and "rpc-password" fields in

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654789] [NEW] Race condition on rendering the time

2017-01-07 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with xscreensaver 5.34-2ubuntu1 and on
locking the screen there is a race condition in which the digits of the
date render multiple numbers. For example if this issue happens the
right digit of the seconds seems to show 2 different numbers which looks
then distorted. This issue happens very rarely as (besides from being
happened right before creating this ticket) I remember to have not seen
this issue for a while (maybe over 1 or 2 years).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653323] Re: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized

2017-01-07 Thread Damon Lynch
Running the mainline kernel 4.10-rc2 and the nouveau driver on 17.04
means the bug does not appear; it does appear with the Nvidia 375 driver
in the regular 17.04 kernel. The 4.10-rc2 kernel is significant because
in the 4.9 and earlier kernels, the mouse cursor does not move from the
top left corner of the screen.

The screen experiences severe flicker when using Nvidia 375.26 on a

I made a video illustrating the problem: http://damonlynch.net/share

Driver is from the "graphics-drivers" PPA.

At this point I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software
problem -- I've never seen anything like it before. I've ruled out the
DisplayPort cable as a problem, because it exhibits the same problem
  with two different cables.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1522675] Re: Needless scary warning: Download is performed unsandboxed as root: _apt user not allowed

2017-01-07 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The message won't be removed. It's worded as good as it can be now.

Maintainer scripts using apt-helper to download stuff (or clients using
libapt-pkg) should be fixed to use proper permissions on the directories
so the _apt user can write files (best create a temporary directory I'd
say owned by _apt, download to that).

For interactive use, the message appears in a very limited set of
circumstances. Namely, "download" and "source" run as root (maybe
"changelog", depending on your tmpfs setup, not sure). Running these
commands as root does not make that much sense anyway, especially
source.

So if users can reproduce this with a specific package that uses our
tools, please add a task for that tool. From the apt side, this is
working as intended.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654795] [NEW] Clang 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7 can't compile a C++11 program with std::bind

2017-01-07 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I'm working on Ubuntu 16 x86_64, fully patched. I'm trying to compile
Jack Lloyd's Botan library. Its a C++11 TLS library. It can be found at
https://github.com/randombit/botan.

The compile fails with Clang 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 (3.8 is OK). The library
fails with the error below.

I found a GCC error report about it, but it was marked as Invalid
because its Clang's bug:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71809.

I was not able to find a LLVM bug report for the issue.

According to Andrew Pinksi from the 71809 bug, here's the discussion
about it on CFE-dev: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/cfe-
dev/2016-March/047761.html.

The short of it is, Ubuntu ships with GCC 6.0. All the affected Clang's
need to be compiled against GCC 6.0 and not the GCC 5.3 its currently
compiled against.

Please rebuild Clang 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 against the GCC 6.0 gear.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653323] Re: Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized

2017-01-07 Thread Damon Lynch
I just tried the nouveau driver in 4.9.0-11-generic. Now while it didn't
flicker, what it did do was exhibit the very start of the problem, which
manifests as subtle vertical bars in the top panel's dark brown bar. So
it may not be an Nvidia problem, but a kernel problem, that may have
been fixed in 4.10.

Driver is from the "graphics-drivers" PPA.

At this point I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software

2017-01-07 Thread Jeffrey Walton
I don't have a minimal, reduced case to reproduce it. But here's how to
reproduce it using Botan:

  git clone git://github.com/randombit/botan
  cd botan

  ./configure.py --cc=clang --cc-bin=/usr/bin/clang++-3.{5|6|7}
  make -j 4

When make gets to the file src/lib/tls/tls_handshake_hash.cpp, the
compile will fail.

  https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71809.

I was not able to find a LLVM bug report for the issue.

According to Andrew Pinksi from the 71809 bug, here's the discussion
  about it on CFE-dev: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/cfe-
  dev/2016-March/047761.html.

The short of it is, Ubuntu ships with GCC 6.0. All the affected
Clang's need to be compiled against GCC 6.0 and not the GCC 5.3 its
  currently compiled against.

Please rebuild Clang 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 against the GCC 6.0 gear.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-01-07 Thread Steve Langasek
>From what I gathered, msttcorefonts and flashplugin-nonfree

These packages invoke update-notifier for the downloading; reassigning.

I don't see what value this sandbox user is providing, however, and why
apt needs to be so noisy about it. Is this about not running the
network client code as root? Clearly, anything downloaded is going to
be handled as root once it's there.

** Package changed: flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu) => update-notifier
(Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: msttcorefonts (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579760] Re: Protocol RC-6 no longer available for soundgraph imon (15c2:ffdc)

2017-01-07 Thread Jord Swart
Since this is an old bug: I confirm the issue is still there.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

Title:
Protocol RC-6 no longer available for soundgraph imon (15c2:ffdc)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in v4l-utils package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  Release: 16.04

  $ apt-cache policy ir-keytable
  ir-keytable:
Installed: 1.10.0-1
Candidate: 1.10.0-1
Version table:
   *** 1.10.0-1 500
  500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

== What used to happen in older releases:
In older versions of ir-keytable I was able to set my soundgraph imon
(15c2:ffdc) to use protocol RC-6.

The way I did it was by changing the file:
  /lib/udev/rc_keymaps/imon_pad

and make the first line look like:
  # table imon_pad, type: RC-6

== What actually happens in the current release:
In the 16.04 release of Ubuntu this is no longer possible. The output of
ir-keytable also doesn't list the RC-6 protocol as available.

  $ sudo ir-keytable
  Found /sys/class/rc/rc0/ (/dev/input/event4) with:
Driver imon, table rc-imon-pad
Supported protocols: other
Enabled protocols:
Name: iMON Remote (15c2:ffdc)
bus: 3, vendor/product: 15c2:ffdc, version: 0x
Repeat delay = 500 ms, repeat period = 125 ms

With the "other" protocol enabled my arrow keys deliver double key
clicks, so clicking up once actually moves the cursor two lines up (in
  kodi that is).

Forcing the device to RC-6 with:
  $ sudo echo RC-6 > /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols

  fixes the double clicks.

== What should happen in the current release:
IMHO ir-keytable should actually list RC-6 as a protocol for this (specific)
device and it should be relatively easy to assign this protocol. Either by
using ir-keytable, or updating the imon_pad file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654800] [NEW] Nautilus stopped working

2017-01-07 Thread el_gallo_azul
Public bug reported:

About 10 minutes ago, I was able to use Nautilus normally.

Aboiut 5 minutes ago, I needed to open a folder, but Nautilus would no
longer start.

If I click the "Files" icon, it flashes normally for a while, but
Nautilus doesn't start.

I need to use Nautilus, which means that I now have to get all my
current applications to a state such that I can restart the computer
without losing or forgetting anything.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1569651] Re: akonadi startup fails with unknown variable innodb_additional_mem_pool_size [Xenial 16.04]

2017-01-07 Thread Rob Bruce
I got the same error log message when starting KMail after upgrading
from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. (Of course, something KMail-related getting
broken in an update isn't surprising anymore, email being bleeding-edge
and all . . . )

2017-01-08T02:29:26.960676Z 0 [ERROR] unknown variable
'innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=1M'
2017-01-08T02:29:26.960682Z 0 [ERROR] Aborting

Checking mysql-global.conf I found:

# memory pool InnoDB uses to store data dictionary information and other
internal data structures (default:8M)
# Deprecated in MySQL >= 5.6.3, removed in 5.7 (works in MariaDB)
# innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=8M

Note that not only is the innodb_additial_mem_pool_size already
commented out in the existing version of the config file, its value is
8M, not the 1M in the log!

Deleting the line entirely allowed KMail to start -- so far, so good.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1576215] Re: Network Manager regularly thinks my wifi is a wired device

2017-01-07 Thread intuiter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1574347 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574347

I started having this problem after a regular package upgrade.
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Current Network Manager version in my system: 1.2.2

I hope it gets fixed in future versions. For now the workaround is to
run "systemctl restart network-manager.service" after every reboot.

Network Manager regularly thinks my wifi is a wired device

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I boot up my network doesn't automatically connect. I instead
see when I click the network manager applet that it's got no Wifi
devices listed. It thinks my wireless card is an ethernet device.
This isn't true and I have no ethernet devices in my system.

When this situation happens if I issue /etc/init.d/network-manager
restart it comes back up thinking it's a wireless device and happily
  associates with my saved SSID.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1654817] [NEW] package libgtk2.0-bin 2.24.30-4ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 2

2017-01-07 Thread Christopher Morrow
Public bug reported:

When I attempted to install libgtk2.0-0 it said something along the
lines of needing to remove the old package 2.24.30-4ubuntu2 (I think, I
