I have now also tested evolution 2.30.3 in maverik and the bug is not
fixed.

Why is this bug marked as "fix released"?

[Bug 539806] [NEW] GNOME notification message behavior

2010-03-16 Thread Marcus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The notification messages in Lucid (2010-03-15) behave quite strange.
First of all they pop up just somewhere in the upper right screen area,
hovering lets them fade and they do not disappear on click (only after
timeout)

I have attached a small screen capture of the behavior.

[Bug 437429] Re: No GUI to configure/disable login sound

2010-01-30 Thread marcus-
I Love Ubuntu Linux but this is sad. I don't like the drum sound. Not
being able to disable it in a GUI is " :) " well it is free software.
However if Ubuntu didn't have little simple problems like this it would
almost be a perfect OS "except for Totem as the default movie player"
it's awful  software.

[Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load

2008-11-20 Thread marcus
We need an option in gnome-power-manager to enable the performance
governor in Ubuntu 8.10. The ondemand governor does not work properly
for everyone. On my Thinkpad T42, flash video playback at fullscreen is
choppy. The cpu will go to max, but not fast enough to prevent choppy
playback. The T42 runs at 600 MHz most times, so the overall performance
is sluggish at best. I want to run at full speed when plugged into the
ac. Can someone explain to me why having this option is such a big
problem. Is there some secret plan to save energy or something? Please
let me know if anyone has found a solution to this problem. I don't want
to go back to Gentoo. Please help!!

[Bug 1060507] Re: Opaque error message "Installing packages by files isn't supported"

2013-08-15 Thread Marcus
Had the same unhelpful error message pop up on my near new install of
Ubuntu 13.04, it occurred whenever I tried to copy a CD. I then noticed
at the bottom of the Brasero package description it mentions also
installing the package cdrdao for direct copying of CDs. I installed
cdrdao and cue2toc, and now the error does not appear and I can
successfully copy CDs.

Also note that these packages are not dependancies, recommended or
suggested by the Brasero package, which seems like an oversight in my
Ubuntu newbie opinion.

[Bug 969073] [NEW] Seahorse does not allow keyring browsing and accessing passwords

2012-03-30 Thread Marcus
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 it is no longer possible to access keyrings and
passwords in the seahorse GUI.
It is possible to search for passwords/keys, but it is impossible to open (as
in browse) the keyring and select a password.
Thus, it is currently impossible for a user to extract or access their stored
passwords in a non-progamming manner.

This error also occurs on a new installation of Precise Beta 2.

[Bug 582912] [NEW] gnome system monitor graphical outputs are incorrect

2010-05-19 Thread marcus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

The gnome system monitor is not useful in Karmic Koala... everything is
wrong.

The monitor takes an excessive amount of the cpu (previously reported,
but not high enough priority)

The monitor reports the wrong memory usage and the wrong total memory
size.

The monitor reports incorrect network activity.

The monitor is very sluggish... selecting app tabs is not responsive
(couple of seconds)

I am forced to use "top" exclusively from a terminal because gnome-
system-mo is useless. This really needs to be bumped up in priority.
There are tons of bug reports, just no response... please.

[Bug 150690] Re: Compiz Gutsy : Can't drag a window to another workspace

2009-05-13 Thread Marcus Carlson
Hi folks,

I've been doing some investigating and maybe you already know this but
in libwnck in screen.c the function update_workspace_list this always
sets n_space to 1 without printing my warning. From my understanding
this goes all the way to compiz land which hacks the workspaces to
always be set to one.

  n_spaces = 0;
  if (!_wnck_get_cardinal (screen->priv->xroot,
   _wnck_atom_get ("_NET_NUMBER_OF_DESKTOPS"),
   &n_spaces)) {
fprintf(stderr, "WARNING WARNING could not get Atom
_NET_NUMBER_OF_DESKTOPS, setting n_spaces to 1\n");
n_spaces = 1;
  }

Because of this the method wnck_screen_get_workspace_count will always return 1
and therefore also workspace_at_point will return 1 and the move will then fail
because we're moving from workspace 1 to workspace 1.
What I can understand this is the same reason bug #150443 fails.

The strange thing is that the drawer somehow can figure out how many
workspaces there really is - why this is so I couldn't find but I
suspect that it checks some gconf values because of the rows thing.

Maybe someone who knows a little bit more about compiz internal can
explain why _NET_NUMBER_OF_DESKTOPS is set to 1?

[Bug 150690] Re: Compiz Gutsy : Can't drag a window to another workspace

2009-05-14 Thread Marcus Carlson
Aha. If I understand it correct, a viewport is just a part of a "large desktop"
 (vm-spec).
But how can the pager display get the number of viewports correctly when
drawing the switcher, I might be blind but I just can't find the code that
draws ALL (iterating thru the list and calls the appropriate drawing function)
the viewports/workspaces in pager.c because this one seems to get the correct
number... or I'm I completely wrong here?

[Bug 150690] Re: Compiz Gutsy : Can't drag a window to another workspace

2009-05-15 Thread Marcus Carlson
I've made a kinda hackish patch that lets you move the window to another
workspace (actually its a viewport).
Known bugs
 - The window isn't moved to the same position as the last workspace
 - No highlight during drag
 - Probably something more...

Note I'm not a C developer and I really haven't got a clue of the
internals of X, gtk, libwnc, etc. If I get more time during the weekend
I might fix the last things. Otherwise if someone else is willing to fix
the code, feel free ;-)

Also, making diff isn't my cup of tea... Hope it works ;-)

[Bug 150690] Re: Compiz Gutsy : Can't drag a window to another workspace

2009-05-15 Thread Marcus Carlson
Saïvann Carignan: It surly did need some modifications, in fact I felt
ashame of the patch so I had to do a better one ;-)

So here we go again, the window is now moved to the right position after
the move and won't activate (unless moved to the current
workspace/viewport). Very annoying having awn making jumps ;-) No
highlighting this time either.

Will also post upstream so they can give comments on the code.

[Bug 390724] Re: Back button (most used) in Nautilus smaller than rest

2009-08-13 Thread Marcus Carlson
I've tried setting both back and forward to homogeneous but it didn't
help (not sure why, no warnings/error - nothing). And forcing the button
to a specific width would create more problem (icons only, text besides
icons, different theme/language/font etc) than it would solve. So at the
moment I'm out of ideas.

[Bug 8949] Re: Opening a deleted 'recent document' results in a new file.

2009-08-16 Thread Marcus Carlson
Removing items from the list before it's displayed is not really
possible. Think about remote shares that you have not saved the password
for, for example. And even if the file is local the file may disappear
after you have open the menu (check then act problem). Actually even if
we check the file right after you selected it if it exists or not, even
then it might be removed before the application has started (yes, I know
it's a small chance but it still can happen - eg your doing a large move
on a older that hasn't finished). So maybe the problem is within the
application themselves on how they should handle files that doesn't
exists? Gedit for instance creates a new file, OOo says the file doesn't
exist, Eog somehow says it doesn't exists.

[Bug 39328] Re: Disable scrolling on window list to flip through windows

2009-08-23 Thread Marcus Carlson
oliwek, try this (haven't tried it myself so you might have to improvise
a bit ;-) )

First we need to build libwnck and install libwnck

# cd
# mkdir temp
# cd temp
# apt-get build-dep libwnck
# apt-get source libwnck
# cd libwnck-2.26.0
# cp /path/to/10_wnck_scroll_enabled.patch debian/patches/
# dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -tc
# sudo dpkg -i ../libwnck*.deb

Then we need to build and install gnome-panel

# cd
# cd temp
# apt-get build-dep gnome-panel
# apt-get source gnome-panel
# cd libwnck-2.26.0
# cp /path/to/scroll_gui.patch debian/patches/30_scroll_gui.patch (from
http://bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=138627)
edit debian/patches/series (eg with nano) and add a line with
"30_scroll_gui.patch" after "28_prefer_lvds_monitor.patch"
# dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b -tc
# sudo dpkg -i ../*panel*.deb

Kill gnome-panel (or relogin) and hopefully things will work, if they
don't, comment here and I'll see if I can fix a PPA for this.

[Bug 399031] Re: some applets are not draggble with mouse middle click

2009-08-25 Thread Marcus Carlson
I can also confirm this and as I posted in [1] I think adding a "!"
around line 2216 in panel-widget.c seems to fix the issue.

 event_time = event->time;
-if (event->send_event)
+if (!event->send_event)
 event_time = GDK_CURRENT_TIME;

[Bug 389926] Re: Nautilus browser's pathbar doesn't display the entire path, even when it can

2009-09-07 Thread Marcus Carlson
I vote against doing this. There's seldom a use to go up from the home
directory and mostly things are write protected there anyway. I'd prefer
to use the space to display folders in the home directory instead (yeah,
I know we could display / home first and then remove it when space is
limited but that will make a "jumpy" behavior).

[Bug 968213] Re: Too many icons in Gnome Shell Activities Overview require ellipses

2020-06-11 Thread Marcus Aurelius
So another LTS got released with this issue... :-(

If upstream Gnome is dragging its feet to solve this, would I be asking
too much if I suggested Ubuntu to bundle the "Applications Overview
Tooltip" in the distro? At least users won't have to mess with browser
extensions. That looks like a pretty obvious solution to me.

Oh interesting. Looks like you don’t even have the gnome-3-34-1804 snap

$ snap list

If you don’t see that snap in the list try:

$ sudo snap install gnome-3-34-1804

And see if that fixes your issue.

[Bug 1867462] [NEW] Desktop icons extension does not work properly

2020-03-14 Thread Marcus Grenängen
Public bug reported:

First, I am unable to find any way of disabling/hiding desktop icons in
Gnome settings. Is this intended behavior?

Second, when using Gnome tweaks, there is currently no way of
disabling/hiding desktop icons via the extension, clicking the settings
button for it renders no result and disabling it will not hide desktop
icons.

Ah, yes, Sorry about that.

It does not work to hide the icons via the extension settings. Eg, the
settings dialog never shows when requested from Gnome Tweaks. So it's
impossible to do as one can do in 19.10 where you could say, do not show
trash can on desktop etc...

[Bug 1874219] Re: PC suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen

2020-05-11 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
If your user account is configured to not suspend, you could copy the
settings over to GDM like this:

IFS=$'\n'; for x in $(sudo -u username gsettings list-recursively
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power); do eval "sudo -u gdm dbus-
launch gsettings set $x"; done; unset IFS

where 'username' is your username.
