[Bug 390670] Re: notify-osd changes the way it supports int32-hints
The design team wants the indicator to "throb" when the user hits volume/brightness up (down) but the systems state-value for that is already at its maximum (minimum). The only way to communicate this to notify-osd by using these special values 101 (-1), because notify-osd has no (and should not have) any knowledge about system state-values for volume/brightness. notify-osd just displays values without any knowledge of its context. Using values 0 and 100 like it was before, does not work. This is also a bug reported by one of the members of the design team here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/notify-osd/+bug/337820. The cause for that bug is due to the incomplete or wrong patch work done on g-s-d and g-p-m during the jaunty cycle. My patches fixes all that. Initially I also considered fixing this already for the jaunty SRU-phase, but that would have not gone past the SRU-policy-enforcers. BTW the volume/brightness value is used directly if 0 <= value <= 100. In addition to that the use of those two booleans make the code/patch easier to read and thus understand. -- notify-osd changes the way it supports int32-hints https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390670 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Further investigation of this showed that I had a package called libwncksync-glib installed. The shared library /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiodbus.so with the symbol lookup error is part of that package. gdm itself does not depend or link to any shared library provided by libwncksync-glib. [Bug 451086] Re: Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art
Here's how rhythmbox should go about this case when second song lacks cover-art (pseudo-code): // create a new bubble for first song image_file = get_cover_art_image (song_one); if (image_file) n = notification_new ("Song one", "Artist one, Album one", image_file); else n = notification_new ("Song one", "Artist one, Album one", " "); // note the space between the last double-quote pair notification_show (n); // update current bubble image_file = get_cover_art_image (song_two); if (image_file) notification_update (n, "Song two", "Artist two, Album two", image_file); else notification_update (n, "Song two", "Artist two, Album two", " "); // note the space between the last double-quote pair notification_show (n); According to you example-case the first song will have a cover-image, thus the if-branch will be executed (resulting in an icon-summary-body layout case). For the second song the else-branch will be executed, because it lacks a cover-image. Then the filename will be a simple single space (and result in a summary-body layout case). This is needed for notify-osd to be able to determine the bubble-layout and distinguish update- from append-cases. -- Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 451086] Re: Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art
The cause for this bug is, that rhythmbox (rb) does not correctly reset the hints on a notification. So if a song does not have a cover-art defined for it, rb just passes a default icon via the "icon parameter". But if a previous song had a cover-art defined, it was sent from rb via DBus to the notification- daemon (notify-osd in this case) using the "image_data" hint. If this "image_data" hint is not explicitly cleared from rb before sending out that default icon as "icon parameter", the pixbuf attached to that "image_data" hint overrules the "icon parameter", resulting in the notification showing the wrong/old cover-art. I've written a patch against rb 0.12.5 to fix this. It is attached to this comment. Furthermore I uploaded rhythmbox_0.12.5-0ubuntu5 to my PPA here (https://edge.launchpad.net/~macslow/+archive/ppa/+packages). Someone from the distro-team can grab needed bits from there and upload it to main. I also added a remark in the upstream bug-report (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598613) and attached my patch there too. ** Attachment added: "fixes rb not resetting hints correctly" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34304154/05_clear_notification_hints.patch ** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/451086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The branch for fixing this in notify-osd I put up for review here: https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~macslow/notify- osd/fix-546650/+merge/22469 This keeps the changes within notify-osd. I don't fully understand why only this works and the old way for creating the "empty" input-mask failed, because the resulting input-mask in both cases is a 1x1 pixel "large" bitmap in the top left corner of a notification-bubble's window. [Bug 334063] Re: enable compositing in metacity by default
There's not much one can do to improve the look of notifications for the non-composite case without redesigning the way the bubble-background is rendered (that black rounded rectangle thing). The non-composited case never has been a priority. Therefore no design-thought went into this case. The only requirement to fulfil is make it work under non- composite. That goal is met. Click-through works, the shape of the notification-bubble is the same etc. In addition to this I currently have a huge problem with the notification-bubbles not being visible if one is running metacity+compositor. That I had working flawlessly during the sprint in Berlin and moved on to other tasks. Then about two weeks later suddenly someon poked me that bubbles weren't showing for metacity+compositor. Trying to find the commit that introduced this regression with out a working bisect-plugin for bzr, is something I currently resist to invest time on, considering other higher priority tasks on my stack. [Bug 141210] Re: can not change the number of workspaces
I extended the wnck-applet (its properties dialog) to further increase the compiz-awareness/integration. The fix should show up in an updated package after the beta-freeze. You will be able to change the viewports/workspace-layout via the properties dialog of the wnck-applet. That very dialog is now able to adapt itself to either compiz or metacity. -- can not change the number of workspaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141210 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The behaviour is currently changed to be like this: 1.) If No-, Normal- or Extra-Effects is selected the Custom-Effects option is not displayed, except ccsm is found to be installed. In that case Custom-Effects and the Properties-button are displayed. 2.) Should ccsm not be installed and only No-, Normal- or Extra-Effects be selected, the Custom-Effects option is not displayed. 3.) Should ccsm not be installed and the user changed the set of effects otherwise (e.g. via gconf-editor or gconftool-2) only Custom-Effects will be displayed and selected. [Bug 109641] developer docs for libpango are broken
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libpango1.0-doc Steps to reproduce: 1.) On Ubuntu 7.04 open devhelp from the menu. 2.) Hit Ctrl-s to get to the search-entry widget. 3.) Enter pango_layout_set_justify 4.) On the right side of the devhelp-window for the pango_layout_set_justify() prototype hit the link for the gboolean type. 5.) Be surprised by this error-message: "Firefox can't find the file at /home/behdad/.local/share/gtk-doc/html/glib/glib-Basic-Types.html#gboolean."
