I'm following this bug having seen it on my Hardy install. Any chance this
fix makes it into Hardy as well?

[Bug 164580] Re: Totem low streaming performance when accesing smb shares

2008-04-13 Thread Goswin
I just did a check with Totem in Hardy, and I can still reproduce the
behavior. Streaming a movie through the network did work, even scrolling
through the movie with the mousewheel. But placing the glider halfway by
dragging, the movie stops playing. I get about two screen-refreshes per
minute, and even waiting for five minutes, Totem can't get it to resume
normal playing. So in short - yes, the bug is still buggin'.

...Oh wait, I just tried to stream a movie from my other PC (most movies
are on my NAS), and from there, I could skip to anywhere in the movie.
So the prime suspect isn't Totem anymore. I guess my NAS can't keep up
(cheapo external disk with an ethernet socket). So as far as I can
judge, this bug can be closed.

[Bug 185729] Re: nautilus is unable to copy folders from samba

2008-07-07 Thread Goswin
I "me too" on this one as well, but the workaround mentioned above does
not work for me. My ~/.gvfs folder is empty (the share is mounted using
Locations >> Mount Network Share and then bookmarked). Clicking the
bookmark makes me browse the drive without problems (apart from some
random "can't access share" dialogs which don't show up if I try to
access it again). Copying files also no fuss, copying folders ... no go.

[Bug 196967] [NEW] [Hardy] evolution - inconsistent behavior when using TAB key on new line

2008-02-29 Thread Goswin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When using tabs to align text in an evolution email (compose mail), the
behavior is inconsistent on a new line. The underlying text is pushed
down one line, then comes back up, but the cursor is not 'tabbing'
forward. It stays at the beginning of the line. It seems the tabs are
added to the end of the line before the new line.

[Bug 178061] Re: *** Error: couldn't find any ServerLayout sections

2008-03-09 Thread Goswin
I also had this empty Screens and Graphics, so I tried the fix suggested
here. I wasn't that fortunate... My X was all garbled up, and
displayconfig-gtk showed up (almost unreadable) to help me fix the
problem. In the end, it couldn't fix it, so I had to do a dpkg-
reconfigure xserver-xorg to get the system back.

BUT, after all this, xorg.conf had gotten a Server Layout from the
reconfigure, and now my Screens and Graphics is populated. It wasn't the
easiest way to get it fixed, but the result is satisfactory,
nonetheless.

Re: [Bug 164580] Re: Totem low streaming performance when accesing smb shares

2008-03-25 Thread Goswin
Same amount of sorry here ;-) I have to really look into it again. Just the
other day though, with an alpha version of Hardy I tried to view a movie
over my network connection, and it would come to a halt after some 15
minutes. Don't know if it's related, because I didn't skip to that part, but
just streamed the movie until it faltered. Skipping a few seconds back to
try another time to get past the freeze point didn't help.
I ended up copying the movie to the harddisk before watching on, but I'll
try to see whether I can replicate the behaviour (or something similar).

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2008-03-27 Thread Goswin
I just retested it in my Hardy beta system. Dragging a file into
Nautilus in list view is perfectly possible. The file is inserted among
the other files just fine (even if the window is completely filled with
files (scroll bars appear)). Perfran is right that in list view there is
no right-click - paste option. Also selecting multiple files by
'lassoing' over them is impossible in list view (but thats the other
bug). So you guys are right about not closing this bug entirely - not
all issues are resolved...

[Bug 177841] Re: synaptic button not active when mouse is over it

2007-12-21 Thread Goswin
I can't see why this is not a bugreport. The button doesn't function
properly unless I move the mouse cursor away from it, and then back on
it. That doesn't seem to be intuitive, and I can't imagine it to be
default / intended behaviour. Maybe this is not synaptics, but GTK+
behaviour, but nonetheless it shouldn't be that way in my opinion.

[Bug 157042] Nautilus uses unidentifyable disk names

2007-10-25 Thread Goswin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When mounting the partitions on my laptop, nautilus names them disk,
disk [1], disk [2], etc. Inserting a camera or a memory stick doesn't
show in the file name (also disk[#]), so it's hard to tell which is
which. Can't the icon or the name be made to differentiate between them?
Give camera and USB-stick icons when appropriate and name the disks
after some identifyable string on the partition or drive (if an OS is
installed).

[Bug 61237] Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2006-09-19 Thread Goswin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

similar to bug #49348 (no lasso selection in list view) it is impossible
to DnD a file into a folder when in list view. Note: dragging the file
in between other files, not folders. You can drag them into a folder
just fine, in list view. But to have a file append a list of other files
in a folder, you'd have to 'move up' one level in the filesystem
hierarchy, and drag the file into the right folder.

It can off course be dragged to the tree, but to an ex-Win user this is
strange. Lasso selection and DnD do work in Explorer.

Moreover, in icon view, lasso selection and DnD are not a problem, so
this would confuse the user (I guess). "Hey, yesterday I could DnD just
fine, but in this folder it won't work".

Ubuntu Dapper, up-to-date system (filing from another system, so I can't
give the exact version numbers).

[Bug 61239] rename only with Right mousebutton

[Bug 61240] when renaming a file, Shift-del removes the file, not the text

2006-09-19 Thread Goswin
Public bug reported:

I use Shift-Del a lot, to avoid cluttering the Trash. When editing a
filename, I automatically Shift-Del'ed the text, to start entering a
new name, and yes, I also automatically pressed 'Enter' on the GTK
dialog which asked me if the file should be removed (conditioned
behaviour).

Point is, Nautilus understands that hitting Del means removing the text,
not the file, when in 'rename-modus'. Not so with Shift-Del, then it
suddenly switches back to 'file-modus'.

[Bug 61239] Re: rename only with Right mousebutton

2006-09-19 Thread Goswin
RM-button == Right Mouse button

What I meant by 'clicking twice' is probably non-standard behaviour, but
if you move the mouse pointer in between clicks, you get to edit the
name of the file in Windows. You have to click on the name of the file
both times, or click on the icon with the first and on the name with the
second click. I stubled on that by accident, but it's actually a fast
way to edit names.

That's what I'm used to in Windows, but I can get used to F2.

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2006-09-19 Thread Goswin
I must apologize. I just came home from work and decided to try it again
myself. The three bugs I posted were from a scribble I kept, intending
to send them for quite some time now. Apparently this 'bug' was for
Breezy (or I just did something wrong when I wrote it down), but I tried
to drag a file into Nautilus in list view (not in a folder, but drag it
among other files), and I could with no problems at all. So again, sorry
for your precious time. I'll be more careful next time I file a bug.
