[Bug 11894] Sound Juicer should remember modifications to titles/artists after exiting
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/11894 Comment: In the case where you go to the MB site and fix the data for everyone, S-J needs to have a way to reload that data instead of using the cached data. I suggest that the "Re-read disc" function do this. Also, It's still useful to be able to retain your own changes, as (at least for me) it is not uncommon to disagree with the MusicBrainz metadata. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36485] gtk.Window.present()
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36485 Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: gtk.Window.present() does not work if raise_on_click is set false in gconf. That is, it does not raise the window, although it does focus it. http://pygtk.org/pygtk2reference/class-gtkwindow.html#method-gtkwindow--present The fact that the window manager option changes this behavior makes me think it is a metacity bug rather than a gtk or pygtk bug. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 11894] Re: Sound Juicer should remember modifications to titles/artists after exiting
One example I've found where I disagree irreconcilably with Musicbrainz, is the Marilyn Manson track known as "Spade" or "♠". I prefer the "♠" spelling, while MB prefers the "Spade" spelling because they don't like to use Unicode in tags where it can be avoided. Thus I prefer to use my info for myself, rather than theirs, and a local cache is the way to do this. In this case, neither of us are "wrong", we just have a different perspective on it. I also tend to rip my CDs more than once, as I generally rip to OGG but sometimes want something in MP3 or FLAC for some reason. Sometimes rips screw up because I have the wrong settings, or random other reasons. I prefer not to have to make my changes over and over. -- Sound Juicer should remember modifications to titles/artists after exiting https://launchpad.net/bugs/11894 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 635288] [NEW] gnome-keyring daemon sets SSH_AUTH_SOCK even when ssh support is ostensibly disabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring http://live.gnome.org/GnomeKeyring/Ssh says that gnome-keyring-daemon stealing the SSH_AUTH_SOCK from other programs can be disabled by setting the gconf key /apps/gnome-keyring/daemon-components/ssh to false. Unfortunately, this does not work, and while it may or may not prevent it from acting as an ssh agent, it still steals the SSH_AUTH_SOCK environment variable when it’s run. [Bug 360748] Re: GNOME keyboard layout options are not applied on login
OK, I've found an extra twist to this problem: I'm on a Dell Latitude D620 in a docking station. The option does get partially applied, but it only works with the built-in keyboard. The setting does not get applied to the external USB keyboard that I use most of the time, until I go into the options as described. [Bug 415655] [NEW] Spellcheck problems with capitalisation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit When gedit finds a misspelling, it doesn't do a good job of taking capitalisation into account. For example, the misspelled word "Iittle" (note the upper-case "i") gives the suggestions "Tittle", "Little", "Vittles"...all of which have the first letter capitalised. However, it doesn't suggest at all "little" with a lower-case "L" as a possibility, but instead assumes that the original capitalisation is correct. This problem happens in the opposite direction too: "WAlT" (note the lower-case "L") gives the suggestions "Walt", "Alt", "Waltz", "Wale","Welt","Wast", "Wait" ... "WAIT" in all-caps isn't even listed as a possibility. Again, it's assigning too much importance to the capitalisation of the first letter, and not enough to the rest. Since gedit uses enchant for spell-checking, I'll also assign this bug to enchant. However, gedit could be doing a better job with sorting the suggestions ("wast" before "wait"??) ** Affects: enchant (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: enchant (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Spellcheck problems with capitalisation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415655 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 322827] [NEW] libpam-gnome-keyring: keyring password should be updated or cleared when a new system password is used
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libpam-gnome-keyring On a system set up to authenticate to an external service, such as LDAP, Active Directory, or Kerberos: When the password is changed on the external service (e.g. due to a forgotten password+reset or a forced periodic password change where the user happened to log in on a different machine when the change came due), the keyring is not unlockable with the new password. This means that unless the user remembers their old password, and knows how to change the keyring password, the keyring must be wiped, losing all the keys stored in the keyring. This bug is distinct from several other similar bugs, in that it the other bugs relate to the keyring password not being updated properly when the password is changed on the current system. This one concerns only the situation where the password is changed externally. One possible (but very ugly) solution is to simply drop the current keyring/passphrase and start anew when the user successfully logs in using a password that doesn't unlock the keyring. Better would be to somehow change the keyring password so that the keyring can be unlocked with the new password. [Bug 322827] Re: libpam-gnome-keyring: keyring password should be updated or cleared when a new system password is used
This is not the job of the tools used to change the password. It is not the responsibility of say, "Active Directory Users and Computers" or "ldappasswd" or "kpasswd" to know that libpam-gnome-keyring is used on some arbitrary machine elsewhere and somehow go and change the keyring password on that other machine. [Bug 322827] Re: libpam-gnome-keyring: keyring password should be updated or cleared when a new system password is used
I agree that nothing forces the use of a similar password. However, it is the default on a fresh Ubuntu install. One possibility would be for gnome-keyring to have a configuration flag that would indicate if the password should be synchronised with the system password. No cleartext stored password should be necessary. So the sequence would go: 1. On an Ubuntu fresh install the password sync flag would be set, and keyring password would be the same as the login password. 2. User's password is changed externally. 3. User logs in. The password is accepted for login, but does not unlock the keyring. 4. libpam-gnome-keyring has the new password since the user just logged in with it. 5. libpam-gnome-keyring needs the old password, so it prompts for it. 6. libpam-gnome-keyring changes the keyring password and unlocks the keyring. 7. The user changes the keyring password manually. 8. The password sync flag is cleared, and so libpam-gnome-keyring should no longer do steps 5 and 6. -- libpam-gnome-keyring: keyring password should be updated or cleared when a new system password is used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/322827 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Clicking "up" moves me to [media] (/media on the filesystem. However, the location bar still shows [/][media][My Data 1] as buttons ([media] being the currently-selected button). And if I double- click on cdrom0, nautilus switches the selected button to [My Data 1], but doesn't update the button label to reflect the new disc. Double- clicking on "My Data 2" in the side bar has no effect. The button will not change until I browse to somewhere else, such that the [My Data 1] button is removed. At that point, going back to /media/cdrom0 will re- add the button with the correct label. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nautilus doesn't properly refresh volume labels on media change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 288390] [NEW] weird path for removeable media in Nautilus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When going to the "Computer" view of Nautilus, I can see "Filesystem" and a CD-ROM with a label, in this case "DN60AENU2". If I double-click on the CD-ROM, the path buttons at the top change from "Computer" to "<" (indicating there is more path to the left) and "DN60AENU2". At this point, clicking "Up" will bring me to "/media" instead of bringing me back to "Computer". Listed in "/media" are "cdrom0" and "cdrom". No "DN60AENU2". Double-clicking on the symlink "cdrom" takes me to (buttons) [media][cdrom]. Double-clicking on "cdrom0" takes me to [media][DN60AENU2]. Switching to a text-based location bar shows the former as "/media/cdrom" and the latter as "/media/cdrom0". I recognize why all these inconsistencies occur, but I feel that they should not. 1. "Up" after "Down" should leave you where you started. 2. If a path is shown as [media][DN60AENU2] then there should be a "DN60AENU2" item in [media]. 3. opening the "cdrom0" item in [media] should take you to [media][cdrom0] not [media][DN60AENU2]. 4. If mount points are to be shown with their volume labels when you're in them (i.e. when you're at /media/cdrom0 it shows as [media][DN60AENU2]), then symlinks to them should behave the same. 5. The text-based location bar should be consistent with the button-based one. 6. Is there any reason that CD-ROMs are treated differently from other removeable media? Most removeable media are mounted at their label, and their mount point is removed they're ejected. CD-ROMs should work the same way. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- weird path for removeable media in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288390 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This problem can be duplicated by: 1. go to system->preferences-> Preferred Applications 2. in the web browser dropdown, choose "Custom" 3. type in a command such as "/usr/bin/firefox-3.5 %s" (or whatever you choose) 4. click 'close' 5. open a link in another application (such as thunderbird or pidgin) which uses gnome's preferred applications. It's totally unusable to me, since I only have one AD account so switching to another user isn't really viable. Obviously there's the workaround of going to a console session as root and killing gnome-screensaver, but that's just silly in my opinion. Interesting that the microsoft support link doesn't give a rationale either way for this policy.
