again it looks like that too is probably the same crash.

[Bug 2066100] Re: gnome-tweak-shell doesn't work properly

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Those log messages are from gnome-shell extensions but I can't tell what
"bms" is. It's not a standard Ubuntu extension.

What extensions do you have installed? And are you trying to report some
more fundamental issue than just log messages?

[Bug 2067214] [NEW] Night Light not working

2024-05-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Night light is not working on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 install.

Nothing about the system was changed, enabling the night light was
literally the first thing I did after the very first boot of the system.

I set the schedule to manual and adjusted the "Times" option such that
it would enable at the time of testing. The night light icon on the top
bar shows up as expected.

I'm including this information on the off-chance it is somehow relevant:
during the Ubuntu 24.04 install procedure, I selected the Dark theme.
The system correctly booted using the Dark theme. Switching to the light
theme had no effect on the Night Light functionality.

[Bug 2067209] Re: wayland doesnt work after update

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 2062082] Re: 24.04 Wayland vs Nautilus performance problem

2024-05-27 Thread John Kizer
I experienced this on my desktop with Nvidia-only graphics - the "egl"
message in the terminal was the tip-off that installing libnvidia-egl-
wayland1, which had worked for me previously to solve some odd Wayland
issues, might help here, and it did in fact help in 24.04 as well.

From my "I know next to nothing" perspective, I've read articles that
imply that EGL won't be needed soon for Nvidia drivers - but for the
time being, should the libnvidia-egl-wayland1 package be added as a
dependency to some/all of the Nvidia driver packages / to a metapackage?

Thanks,

2024-05-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I could not find an exact trigger yet, but from time to time the mapping of the
mouse goes crazy in browsers (at least the standard Ubuntu snap Firefox package
and a Rambox Debian package which, I assume, is based on Chromium):
* the wheel starts acting as if it was mapped to previous/next shortcut (so
same effect than alt right/left arrows)
* the left click is... well, I'm not sure, but it's not left-click anymore
(clicking a link on Firefox seems to have no effect other that noticing that
the link is clicked)
* not sure it's related to the mapping but another problem is that some
"button" seems to end up producing a click event but is never released and in
some case it ends up getting a bit crazy until I find a way to stop that
(clicking the mouse button has no effect in that case)

A workaround which works well is to start a new Firefox windows with
Ctrl+N and close it. And this workaround also fixes other impacted
applications, so I guess it's much more general than Firefox.

Sorry for the lack of technical detail, but I have no idea what exactly
is in charge of this or what to look at. But I would gladly check
anything you want as it's quite a huge pain since the Upgrade to 24.04
as you can imagine.

Some details (some of which might already be in the report sent by ubuntu-bug,
but just to be sure):

That error seems to be occurring after unlocking so is not relevant.

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
But we are looking for similar errors that might be occurring during
locking. So next time the problem happens, please unlock the screen and
then run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 2067260] Re: Mouse mapping randomly temporarily changes after Ubuntu 24.04 upgrade

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The side buttons (BTN_EXTRA/SIDE or buttons 8/9 in Xorg) are mapped to
forward/back (Alt+Right/Left). So it sounds like the wheel is getting
misinterpreted as that, sometimes.

I wonder if you have found either:
 * A keyboard modifier stuck down, if not physically then in software.
 * Some accessibility mode.
 * A hardware-specific mode within the mouse itself.

[Bug 2067332] Re: Gnome crash after sleep mode!

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The only crashes I can see are related to barriers:

[ 160.039193] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]:
libmutter:ERROR:../src/backends/x11/meta-barrier-x11.c:231:meta_x11_barriers_free:
 assertion failed: (g_hash_table_size (x11_barriers->barriers) == 0)
[ 160.039285] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]: Bail out!
libmutter:ERROR:../src/backends/x11/meta-barrier-x11.c:231:meta_x11_barriers_free:
 assertion failed: (g_hash_table_size (x11_barriers->barriers) == 0)
[ 160.039285] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]: GNOME Shell crashed with signal 6

So the problem is likely a buggy extension. Probably one of these:

'extension-list@tu.berry', 'mediacontr...@cliffniff.github.com',
'vit...@corecoding.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com', 'apps-
m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'gtk4-d...@smedius.gitlab.com', 'shortc...@kyle.aims.ac.za', 'just-
perfection-desktop@just-perfection', 'wintile-bey...@grylledcheez.xyz',
'caffe...@patapon.info', 'hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca',
'windowsnaviga...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com'

Please start by uninstalling all of them to test.
