Bug#678999: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Radeon Mobility M6 LY, with firmware r100 and module dri, freezes the whole hardware, as an example, playing with extremetuxracer package. No problem without module

2012-06-26 Thread Fernando Piñeiro

Please, forgive my poor English.

Until now it is OK with kernel parameter radeon.agpmode=-1. No
problems after two sessions.

With kernel parameter radeon.agpmode=1 it lasted 32 seconds and
crash. :-)

Thank you

First of all, forgive my poor English.

With Radeon Mobility M6 LY with firmware r100 in a Compaq Presario 1714 EA.
With module dri working (without this module there is no problem)
Randomly the whole system freezes, as an example playing with extremetuxracer
package

Does passing radeon.agpmode=1 or radeon.agpmode=-1 on the kernel command
line help?

Separating the packages may have sense, especially since the media players
could automatically choose an API that may not properly work on a specific
driver: with separate packages one can install only the API he wants. I however
put all in a single package since all APIs are still experimental anyway and to
reduce the number of packages.

Anyway I am on vacation now, I have no time to deep work on this.

Bug#656719: [PATCH v4 1/3] Add Gallium VDPAU and XvMC driver support (#656719)

2012-06-26 Thread Paul Menzel
From: Fabio Pedretti
Date: Sun, 29 Jan 2012 21:00:57 +0100

Since version 8.0 Mesa provides XvMC and VDPAU Gallium3D video
acceleration drivers.

Fabio’s patch sent to the Debian BTS [1] is adapted

1. to comment

   ln -s build/dri/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)/gallium/XvMCConfig
/etc/X11/XvMCConfig

overwriting `/etc/X11/XvMCConfig` already shipped by `libxvmc1`,
2. to not install `/etc/XvMCConfig` which should go under `/etc/X11/`
3. and removing a line from `not_installed`.

Item 2 probably has to be solved by some kind of `update-alternatives`
to work when this package in deinstalled again.

Using `mplayer -vo xvmc -vc ffmpeg12mc dvd.mpeg2` does not work for me
since MPlayer does not find `libXvMCr600.so.1`.

Bug#679120: libdrm-nouveau1a: text corruption using nouveau (not with video, images or 3d)

2012-06-26 Thread Steven Post
Package: libdrm-nouveau1a
Version: 2.4.33-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Using nouveau with multiple monitors (although I don't think that it is related
to that)

Text very frequently gets corrupted, but images, video and 3d are not affected.
This mostly occurs when using iceweasel and gnome-terminal, but evolution is
also affected.

When this happens, selecting the text or scrolling so it leaves the visible
screen, appears to re-render it with the effect that the distortion changes,
making it readable from time to time. When taking a screenshot, the corruption
dissapears, but might re-appear after the text left the visible screen (a
window that comes over it or scrolling.
It doesn't occur with all text, usually only part of a sentence or a couple of
lines. Good text can get corrupted again after selecting affected text.

The problem doesn't occur when using the nvidia binary blob.
My graphics card is a GForce 9800 GT. It also doesn't occur on my laptop with a
GF8400M GS card.

Bug#679127: No text, no icons, no menus in X.org

2012-06-26 Thread Douglas Mencken
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.6+13
Severity: important

I updated my Debian Sid with dist-upgrade, and got that a lot of stuff
is no longer displayed.

That's what I have in gdm after boot sequence finished:
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6307/01gdmchooseuser.jpg
I still can click, so I chose my user and enter its password:
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/494/02gdmpasswordentered.jpg
After pressing [Enter] key, I got the desktop (it's xfce4), but
there's only wallpaper! No icons, no menus, etc.:
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/557/03emptydesktopnoiconsno.jpg
I still can click. I know where the logout icon is located, so I
clicked blindly. The result:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/4741/04logoutwindow.jpg

If that matters, I'm using Debian Sid on PowerPC architecture, *not x86*.
And I'm writing from another machine now, do not ask to "report using
reportbug".

Alright, there will be another iteration with the following changes.

1. Put libXvMC* libraries under /usr/lib/ and not /usr/lib/dri so that
MPlayer finds them.

2. Switch contents of libvdpau1-gallium.install.in and
libxvmc1-gallium.install.in.

Thanks,

Paul

Bug#679127: No text, no icons, no menus in X.org

2012-06-26 Thread Douglas Mencken
Oh, I forgot to say why I'm so sure it's "Start-Date: 2012-06-24
03:37:12" upgrade... Just because I met it, and then tried to
re-install libfreetype. Then I shat down the machine, and waited for
some time (just to be sure it's not "zero-day" bug which will be found
and fixed immediately), it was ~2 days. Then I tried to upgrade again,
but... The issue was not fixed. So I reported this bug.

So... What can it be? Which package to blame (I know, it is not X.org
generally, but some part of it, maybe gtk+ v3 / gnome / etc.)? I just
dunno.

Could you please report this upstream on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ ?
Choose product "xorg", component "Driver/nouveau". Let us know the bug
number when you have it.

Detailed instructions are on http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs.

Thanks,

Timo says...
"The commit should probably be reverted for now, since it looks like the
current version is not complete. Might be best to wait until it's

Bug#679197: xinit unusable without xterm

2012-06-26 Thread Mateusz Poszwa
Package: xinit
Version: 1.3.2-1
Severity: normal

Hello.
Whenever I want to start a program with xinit, I have to install xterm for it
to work.
The man page says xterm should be used when no other client is specified in the
command line.
Unfortunatelly xinit seems to require xterm even for launching other clients.

Thank you for your work.

Best regards
