Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.9.0-1+lenny4
Severity: important

I have an annoying issue on a Thinkpad X31: Every now and then, after
suspending to / resuming from memory, my display is all garbled. This is sort
of hard to debug since I cannot reproduce it at will - sometimes it happens
several times in a row, other times it doesn't happen for days or even weeks.
It doesn't seem to be a hardware defect, though, since I have a second X31
which shows the exact same symptoms. Also, while I don't remember exactly when
it started, I know it used to work just fine (probably back on etch, but the
laptop was running Ubuntu at that time).

Right.

However, why is the driver unloaded later?

It's already loaded once (because of your xorg.conf section), so when
it's loaded again by the hotplug code that fails. Nothing wrong there.

OK, I didn't notice that I reported the bug while still having this
snippet in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I have removed it and the situation is
still the same:
 - X recognizes the touchpad (and still tries to load twice)
 - tapping and scrolling does not work

I have looked at the output of synclient -l and I noticed that
VertEdgeScroll was set to 0. I set it to 1 and scrolling is now
working. I have a HAL policy for this but I suppose that the driver does
not query HAL anymore :

I can enable tapping by setting TapButton1=1.

Therefore, I think this whole bug could be resolved by updating
README.Debian to emphasize the fact that the touchpad should be
configured with synclient and that other methods (xorg.conf or HAL) does
not work anymore.

Sorry, the problem is still here. It seems they just added a workaround
to detect this problem and disable acceleration :

(EE) intel(0): Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration.
(WW) intel(0): i830_uxa_prepare_access: gtt bo map failed: Input/output error

[ 1577.544230] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...

When acceleration is disabled, the thing becomes slower and there are
some display problems: horizontal black lines may appear, aptitude
ncurses interface is completely scrambled in urxvt with transparent
background, ...

I have also tried 2.6.34-1~experimental.2 with no change. I have tried
to disable KMS but X refuses to start. I will try to rebuild 2.6.34
kernel with patches from here and let you know if this improves things.

Bug#585815: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: radeon/KMS only works in PCI mode (AGP disabled) for RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10] card

2010-07-10 Thread Stefano

Pong.

Sorry for the late response but I've been really busy!

I have tried some configurations and so far it seems that

agpmode=1

works pretty well.

I have also tried to run kernel 2.6.34 from experimental to solve another issue
(Bug#585822), but such kernel brakes compositing (KDE4 tells me that
compositing is not available).

However after doing that there's a video game (aquaria, www.bit-
blot.com/aquaria/) that does not work anymore, and I have no idea of what
I've done to do that! In particular the error is:

drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -12. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command
stream. See dmesg for more info.

and dmesg says:

[drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12!

What's weird is that I tried the old radeon configuration and reinstalled the
game as well as the configuration files for the game itself but nothing
happened!

...not that I want you to debug that, it's just to explain the error. ;-)

Well, that's all for now.

Thank you,

Thanks, that seems to do the job. I downloaded 6.13.1-1 from unstable and now
I can again use 16 BPP without the greenish tint. Further, if I deactivate KMS
(modprobe radeon modeset=0), X also initialises DRI (even though it complains
about this and that) and bug 587999 doesn't appear, so it's indeed only the
non-DRI code it seems.

Just for the record, I had the effect that areas were not recognized as newly
exposed with EXA and the new radeon driver, though only with a KDE app.
Switching back to XAA seems to work around that. I'll try to reproduce this
and file a separate report if I get to it.

Thank you for your help, I owe you a beer!

I'm currently using 2.6.32.15, still home-compiled and patched with
grsecurity. Same problems : loop and freezing while opening an mplayer
window or moving inside the video, maybe also while playing.

I also hope it's not my only card that would have become defective.

I won't be able to test anything for at least one week since I'm not
home.

Thanks,

Bug#564211: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Lost scrolling with synaptics touchpad after upgrade

2010-07-10 Thread Russell Stuart

A different thing was happening on my system. It looked similar - I did
and upgrade which included xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and tap-to-click
stopped working. But it rapidly became evident that the xorg.conf
settings were at least being read and noticed by
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, but still weren't working. Not quite the
same as bug as this one, so I raised another bug here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=583346

But embarrassingly, it wasn't the upgrade to
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics that was the problem. It was Gnome.
Upgrading it had for some unfathomable reason turned tap-to-click off
(among other touch pad things) thus overriding the settings in
xorg.conf.

Until I realised what was going I used the same short term fix as you
did: I added a "synclient TapButton1=1".

Bug#588681: xev window should not be placed on top of the output one is trying to read

2010-07-10 Thread jidanni
Package: x11-utils
Version: 7.5+4
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/xev

Why not have the default placement of the xev window be the upper right,
instead of the lower left, where it is smack on top of the results one
wants to see, at least in most locales.

Yes one can use -geometry to change it, but I'm here suggesting a new
default for everyone.

2.6.32.x is too old for radeon KMS, you want 2.6.33 or later, or
Debian's 2.6.32-5 (which contains a backport of 2.6.33 drm). KMS is the
way to go, non-KMS won't be supported for a long time...

This patch has been in Debian for a very long time. So your bug is
different from the above one.
