Bug#567619: xserver-xorg: After upgrading squeeze xserver stops responding

2010-01-30 Thread Dirk
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I upgraded yesterday my debian squeeze and after that xserver stops responding
and only a blank screen is seen. I had to cold boot the system (CTRL+ALT+BkSp
doesn't work).
Using a Toshiba Tecra 8000 Laptop with neomagic graphics card.
Before Upgrade no issues with X.

Bug#554450: xserver-xorg-video-intel: screensaver segfaults X in unstable

2010-01-30 Thread Uwe Kleine-König
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-2
Followup-For: Bug #554450

Hello,

Since I upgraded xserver-xorg-video-intel yesterday to 2:2.9.1-2
activating the screensaver makes X segfault.

I can reproduce that with

gnome-screensaver-command -l

After that X is restarted (by gdm I suppose).

IMHO this justifies making this bug rc-critical.

Best regards
Uwe

Hello,

jcristau on irc guesses that this would be fixed by

compiz updates for unstable

2010-01-30 Thread sean finney
hey folks,

just FYI i'm going across the compiz packages in the next week and trying
to give some TLC where it's most needed. on this subject, i've already
incorporated and pushed a couple changes in the main xsf compiz repo.

unfortunately, i made a bit of an absent-minded mistake while doing so;
instead of merging the latest upstream release tag (compiz-0.8.4) i've
merged the latest HEAD from the upstream release branch (compiz-0.8).

So my question to you is, should I

 (a) go ahead and build/upload that
 (b) rebase out the changes locally and reset the *-unstable branches
to not include the merges/commits (this will screw over anyone
who's recently updated their local copies)
 (c) find all the merged commits and revert them for the time being (ugh)

I have a preference for (a) or (b) but want to know what you guys think.

If the difference between 0.8.4 and latest HEAD of 0.8 isn't huge or
dangerous, I'd vote for (a). Otherwise, I'd go for (b), I don't think we
care much about other copies of our alioth repos.

It seems that the patch fixes the crash for me.

While I have lived for the last week with private package
applied the patch, I didn't experience a crash.

What ?

I installed the ati driver to make my radeon module install
automatically but I get the Lenny version of the module.

This is different from the radeon driver which conflicts with the new X
server.

Thanks

Radeon conflicts with nothing, it just provides an ABI virtual package.
Xserver conflicts with old drivers. The problem is that ati in Lenny
does not provide any ABI (ati does not really contain a real driver). I
don't think we're going to fix Lenny for this.

Bug#567677: Server sometimes crashes when closing OpenGL programs

2010-01-30 Thread Patrik Olsson
Source: xorg-server
Version: 2:1.7.4-2
Severity: important

In about 1 of 5 times that I close OpenGL programs (that I have
written), the X server crashes. It doesn't seem to happen when I kill or
"^C" them, though. It is likely the programs are misbehaving (for
example, I currently don't clean up all X and GLX resources before exit,
and maybe I mix both new and old GLX api). I don't have the problem with
other OpenGL programs I have tested such as glxgears or glxinfo. I any
case, I don't think the server should crash, no matter whether
programs/clients are misbehaving or not. Also, I should mention that in
previous versions of the server, I didn't have the problem.

I attached to the process with gdb and below is a debug log (with
prompts). pScreen in #2 was optimized out so I got it from #3 instead.

pDraw at #3 is probably a freed pointer. Thus its pScreen field is
undefined/arbitrary and in this case was 0x1 which made 'privates' in #0
a pointer a bit higher (because implicitly, #2 will find 'privates' by
adding the field offset to the pScreen pointer, see the source code at
that part). Thus in the end it uses an invalid pointer of value 0x151
for 'privates'.

pDraw should not be freed until DRI2DestroyDrawable etc. has been called
with it. Considering it is only sometimes that the server crashes I
would guess there is a race condition.

Of course, there is also the possibility that pScreen has been set to 1
at some point. In other words, I'm not entirely sure if the pDraw
pointer is freed, as I know not how to check that.

I have also attached the Xorg.0.log.old.

Bug#567686: xserver-xorg: Keyboard layout is lost for bluetooth keyboard after upgrade

2010-01-30 Thread Roberto Ferrero
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.5+2
Severity: normal

After last upgrade, the Spanish keymap layout for my bluetooth keyboard is lost
giving the us layout. I have an USB keyboard connected as well and it has not
been afected by the layout change, it works perfectly. I've noticed that, after
trying the USB keyboard, the bluetooth one works back again automagically with
the spanish layout. However, the changes are lost after rebooting. The command
"setxkbmap es" also works changing to the correct layout on the fly, but thouse
changes are also lost when rebooting.

Bug#565344: (no subject)

2010-01-30 Thread Michael Zajonz
Great hint with the xgamma thing. Anyway, this maybe is of some interest
to someone:

when the screen of my machine remains black, i can still connect an
external monitor and everything is fine there. maybe this helps narrowing
down the problems origin.

btw: i'm running testing...how did these xorg updates even make it there?
- this report is dated 14th, the update was available only recently. maybe
i should familiarize myself with debians package policy, since until now i
thought this sort of thing "couldn't" happen (to me this bug is somewhat
severe).

cheers

Bug#567507: Fix for this bug

2010-01-30 Thread Kumar Appaiah
tags 567507 + patch

thanks

Hi!

The simple solution for this bug is for python-compizconfig to
actually use python-central or python-support to manage the extension,
rather than leave it as it is. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

So, while I've not attached a patch, Build-depending on python-central
and uncommenting the dh_pycentral call in debian/rules seems to fix
the issue.

HTH, and thanks.

Bug#567619: xserver-xorg: After upgrading squeeze xserver stops responding

2010-01-30 Thread Borden Rhodes
Agreed. Upgrading to the 2.6.32-trunk kernel seems to be part of the problem.
Thank God my 2.6.30 kernel is still on the system since I am able to boot into
that. However, my Wacom digitiser still isn't being detected like it used to
(which is a whole other issue). Do you need my Xorg.log? The only (possibly)
relevant information that I can add is that I'm running on a 852/855GM (Intel)
video card.

Not working: CTRL+ALT+F# and CTRL+ALT+BKSP. Cannot drop into a shell to
troubleshoot. CTRL+ALT+DELETE does reboot my system, eventually.

Hi,
after upgrading xorg related packages, especially:

[...]
[UPGRADE] xorg 1:7.4+4 -> 1:7.5+2
[...]
[UPGRADE] xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1 -> 2:2.9.1-2
[...]

this bug got dramatically worse.

Now, when I start an X session and then quit it (or switch back to the
console by pressing [Ctrl+Alt+F1]) the console looks *really* different:

 a) no login prompt is shown, only a blinking cursor, until I press
[Enter]

 b) console resolution becomes equal to the one used for the X session
(e.g. 1280x1024, checked with the LCD monitor on screen display), even
though it was lower, before starting X

 c) 'toilet -f future' symbols are totally messed up and do not make
sense at all!

 d) if I become root and issue the 'setupcon' command, 'toilet -f
future' symbols work correctly again (without even the broken joints
problem...), but the screen resolution stays as in the X session

I think all this grants at least severity "important" to this bug
report, since X is breaking the configuration of the console, which is
somewhat unrelated: by looking at severity meanings, breaking unrelated
software would correspond to severity "critical" bugs, but I think this
should be reserved to big breakages; what I am experiencing is not a
big breakage, but a really annoying one, anyway.

Please someone help me!
How can this bug be fixed?

No, I haven't.
At least, not as far as I know! ;-)

No idea, either.
How can I find out if I am using a framebuffer console?

This is what you told me a while ago, and is an incentive to switch to
a framebuffer console.

However, the undesired screen resolution changes and console
configuration losses that I am currently experiencing discourage me
from doing such a switch (assuming that these problems are caused by
framebuffer...).

This is somewhat strange because it is possible only if the console uses
framebuffer. Have you configured framebuffer? Or maybe the new version
of X automatically loads the framebuffer driver (I have no idea).

The joints are never broken if framebuffer is used because the size of
the symbols on the console is reduced to 8x16 pixels compared to 9x16
when the usual text mode is used.

Bug#559233: More doc

2010-01-30 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan
I see there are a lot of solutions for this, I'd like to explain how I did
it and sugest that some comments of the ways to fix this and examples are
added in a README.Debian or examples dir or similar.

All I did was add this two sections to my xorg.conf:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
Option "TapButton2" "2"
Option "TapButton3" "3"
EndSection

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen "Default Screen"
InputDevice "Generic Keyboard"
InputDevice "Configured Mouse"
InputDevice "Synaptics Touchpad"
EndSection

Hope this helps people out there.

Regards.

Bug#565313: dimmed screen with 16-bit depth using radeon driver

2010-01-30 Thread Alexander Sosedkin
Same regression for me, notebook is fujitsu p1120, video card is
reported as ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY.

Everything is dimmed and the color is definitely broken, looks like it
was been repacked from R5G6B5 to R8G8B8 without scaling it, so
1 11 1 became 0001 0011 0001. I may be wrong
though. Changing depth to 24 bit works for me.

Sorry for not attaching any logs or configs.
