Bug#469961: Curious and un-intuitive differences between setkbmap x y '' z and setkbmap -layout x -variant y -option '' -option z

2008-03-08 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 1:7.2.ds2-2
Severity: wishlist

I notice that, with ctrl:nocaps already loaded,

setxkbmap us,us ,dvorak '' grp:caps_toggle

failed to remove the existing ctrl:nocaps option -- that is, the Caps
Lock key was treated as a control key, not a layout switch key.
However,

setxkbmap -layout us,us -variant ,dvorak -option '' -option grp:caps_toggle

behaved as documented, i.e. removing ctrl:nocaps and thus allowing the
Caps Lock key to toggle (between qwerty and dvorak).

The manpage seems to suggest that users can omit the -layout,
-variant, and -option [...] arguments, but this doesn't seem to extend
to the -option '' argument.

Bug#469995: xdm: Problem with LSB header in init.d script

I just checked the shutdown order in unstable on a machine with
dependency based boot sequencing enabled, and discovered that the xdm
got a stop symlink in rcS.d/. This is wrong and only slow down the
boot (very slightly, but still unwanted. :).

Hi Julien,

Yes, that's possible, but if XSF wants to take it as part of your
bundle I'm perfect fine with that too. What's on your mind ?

Bug#469706: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Intel X11 driver unstable ater recent update

2008-03-08 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Followup-For: Bug #469706

Hello, I have been following the X11 ustable packages for some time
because the older ones did not work for one reason or another.

After upgrade to version 2.2.1-1 of the Intel driver I got several hard
lockups (the hibernate script bound to the power button won't work). The
lastest package before that I had archived on my system was 2.2.0.90-3
according to mtime. After downgrading to this one I saw no more lockups.

Unfortunately, these logs are from the older (working) driver as I had
the driver running for some time to test its stability. Also I cannot
tell for sure the problem was caused by the driver - there was no way to
reliably reproduce it, it just happened sometimes. On one occasion I got
a lockup after an operation as trivial as pressing a Cancel button in a
xpdf dialog, another time I left a calculation running, and the PC has
locked up before I came back.

Observe the bottom of the xdm login big rectangle (the outer
rectangle, not the inner one where you type your name.) It is not
smooth, but has a chunk out of line.

Severity: minor

The xdm greeter window is quite a bit larger now than it used to be.
This might relate to a display glitch. Along the bottom of the window,
there is a bevel. About 3/4 of the way across, the bevel is gone, and I
think it just displays flat grey instead. Toward the right corner, the
bevel reappears.

Actually when one first starts xdm one doesn't have the problem. But
upon nohup /etc/init.d/xdm restart, one will... however if you don't
have the problem I'm glad, no need to reopen the bug.
