I thought of something that might explain the mystery: Do you happen to
have transparent background enabled in gnome-terminal? How is the resize
performance of the two kinds of gnome-terminal windows after you kill
and restart compiz?

Bug#438650: Similar (same?) problem on Fujitsu FMV-BIBLO NB10AL

2007-10-28 Thread David Stevenson
I was running sarge happily with no issues but recently upgraded to
etch and struck a similar problem trying to start X.

I've been away from Linux for a while and when I struck the problem I
thought something may have gone wrong with my upgrade, and completely
re-installed my / partition, but still had the problem, when using the
daily built image installer (netboot).

Anyway, when I tried to install etch using the official release
instead of the daily built image X started again. I took a back up of
the xorg.conf then tried installing the daily built image again - but
back to the same problem with X, even if I revert to the older
xorg.conf (with i180 specified as the Device driver).

Eventually I found this bug, and just changing "intel" to "vesa" gets
X working again.

But I'm not sure if I have the exact same problem, so here is my log.

Regards,
David

Added AutoRepeat option to specify rate and delay for key events.

So far the autorepeat settings of xorg were used, thus sharing the settings
with all other keyboard. This is still the default but the
rate and delay can be changed per device, not conflicting with the settings
of other keyboards.

+
+Added AutoRepeat option to specify rate and delay for key events.
+
+So far the autorepeat settings of xorg were used, thus sharing the
settings with all other keyboard. This is still the default but the
+rate and delay can be changed per device, not conflicting with the
settings of other keyboards.

+Author: Sascha Hlusiak <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
+Date: Sat Oct 6 17:28:59 2007 +0200
+
+Use XStringToKeysym to parse symbolic keys defined in xorg.conf.
+
+Users can map buttons to "key=space" or "key=Left" to map them to XK_space
or XK_Left. As
+fallback the numerical expression still works.

+Date: Sat Oct 6 17:07:19 2007 +0200
+
+Integrated XStringToKeysym from libX11 in the module.
+
+To look up Keysyms from Strings the method XStringToKeysym comes in handy,
which would
+require linking against libX11. By integrating the method in the module,
this can be
+avoided until similar functionallity get's included in xorg-server.

+
+Readded own keymap for Joystick keys. This changes meaning of key, keylow
and
+keyhigh values in xorg.conf from scancodes to keysyms!
+
+New xorg-server 1.4 fixes a lot of keyboard things. This makes it
necessary to
+provide an own mapping rather than using the mapping of the current
keyboard. A
+keymap is built dynamically from the options provided. The options now
need to
+provide a keysym for each button instead of the scancodes of another
keyboard
+attached keyboard.

Remove make-orig-tar-gz target

This target wasn't kept up to date and was totally broken for the git

use in any form, so it's been supersceded by a script that is currently
located at

ddcprobe / maintainer (some monitor detection problems)

2007-10-28 Thread Dirk von Suchodoletz

Hi! I try to find the maintainer of the ddcprobe tool. We are using
it for automated setup of stateless workstations (different distros
like Debian, SuSE, Ubuntu, Gentoo ...) But we ran into several problems
recently:

on several NVidia graphic cards:

VESA 3.0 detected.
OEM Name: NVIDIA
Vendor Name: NVIDIA Corporation
Product Name: MCP61 - mcp61-80
Product Revision: Chip Rev
Memory installed = 512 * 64k blocks = 32768kb

EDID read failed. (No DDC-capable monitor attached?)

The display produces proper results with other graphic adaptors like from
Matrox or Intel. Other tools like SuSE hwinfo produce proper results:

Would someone please post irc logs for those of us who can't make that date?

Yeah, we'll remove it from the xserver postinst. The only thing I want is
to allow the server to respect currently existing xorg.confs. So long as
that happens, it's probably better if hal does create the fdi.

Bug#439744: 2:2.1.1-4 seems ok

Joey Hess wrote:

That's surprising since you reported the bug against 2.1.1-1 first and
the code is the same in 2.1.1-4. The only difference is that -4 was
compiled against Xserver 1.4 instead of 1.3.

Anyway, it would still be nice to test the latest upstream git with and
without the patch from
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11527
There are multiple backlight problems caused by some fix for some boards
breaking other boards. So, even if 2.1.1 works for you, it could be
broken later in git. And the above patch is supposed to fix all this. If
you don't have time, I'll just close this bug and we'll hope everything
will still work for you with the next release :)

Thanks,
Brice
