Bug#420506: DRI fails
Hi, Could you try the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental) and report back whether it works better? Your DRI problems apparently got solved by removing the VideoRAM line. The blue XV problem should be fixed by now. So what remains is the freeze when a game changes the resolution, and the drmWaitVBlank warning. The latest package has a good chance of fixing these too. Bug#418256: screen stays black after resume, workaround is to switch to console and back
Hi Erich, Do you still reproduce this problem with a black screen after suspend/resume with the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver? If so, it would be good if all of you could try with the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver (2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental). If you still experience a black screen at resume, you should try either passing acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the kernel, or use vbetool post after resume (some high-level suspending program can take care of this for you, for instance with the uswsusp package). Bug#428796: i810 and X-server hard-lock
Hi Evgeniy, The invalid opcode error looks similar to the one in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=404885. The guy is using the vesa driver. You might want to test with the vesa driver instead of i810 and see whether the same problem occurs (but you won't have accelerated 3D with vesa). If it still occurs, we'll have to reassign this bug to the server core instead of the i810 driver. About the i810 driver, it has been largely reworked since version 1.7. It is now superseded with the Intel driver 2.0 (xserver-xorg-video-intel). Its first release had multiple problems on your i855, but most of them are now fixed in the latest git snapshot of the driver. So, if you want to test it, you have to install xserver-xorg-core 1.3 (currently in testing) and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental. All this will require to upgrade several packages such as the libc6. Also, since your attached file suggests that you might have been trying multiple heads in the past, you have to know that mode detection has been greatly improved in the new Xserver 1.3 and intel driver 2.0. Most of the stuff in xorg.conf to manage resolutions, modes and multiple heads is useless nowadays. You might want to look at section #6 and #7 of http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/ReleaseNotes to change your xorg.conf accordingly. Let me know if you need more help. If so, what does xrandr says? The problem with a VGA display wrongly being detected should be fixed by now. So you should see only LVDS there. Try xrandr multiple times since this problem was intermittent. So "xrandr --output VGA --off --output LVDS --auto" should be useless now. I also tried X -configure and X -config /root/Xorg.conf.new however I got the same errors as before. Bug#418256: screen stays black after resume, workaround is to switch to console and back

I'm not sure which upgrade fixed it, since hibernate, uswsusp and the intel driver were all upgraded. I didn't need enable the new workaround in hibernate though (switch to text mode after resume that is). Bug#420712: xserver-xorg-video-intel does not show virtual screens
Wolfgang Lauterbach wrote: > unfortunatelly the experimental driver doesn´t work, too. Do you mean it does not start? Or "just" that your old virtual screen feature does not work? What resolution do you get at startup? Are you able to move/resize the display correctly with xrandr? As explained earlier, the current "Virtual" line does not seem to have the exact meaning that you want. This Virtual line seems to be only meant to resize/place multiple heads in a same big screen with xrandr --pos/--above/--right-of/... From what I understood, you were moving inside your 'virtual' screen by hitting the corners with the mouse, right? I don't know how to do that today. But I also don't really see why you need this :) Brice

Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:1.9.94-1 Severity: normal Hi, I'm using ususpend to ram (s2ram) a lot, using the hibernate package. Suspending usually works fine, however the screen always comes back as just black. A workaround I've discovered is to switch to text mode (Ctrl +Alt+F1) and back to the video console (Ctrl+Alt+F7). I've also had the impression (didn't test it thoroughly yet, though) that when I do this too fast, the xserver locks up (i.e. switch back to the video console before the text console screen is reinitialized). I'd also like to point out that the text console screen is just as black, I didn't try to get the login prompt displayed yet, either. hibernate has some options such as switching to text mode before doing the suspend, but enabling them didn't help. I remember the non-modesetting driver to have worked better here, hibernate called 915resolution after resume and then switched to the video console and that worked just fine. --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 2.6.20.3 Debian Release: lenny/sid 500 unstableftp.de.debian.org 1 experimentalftp.de.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ===-+-== libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6) | 2.3.6.ds1-13 libdrm2 (>= 2.3.0) | 2.3.0-1 xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.2.99.903) | 2:1.2.99.905-1 best regards, Erich Schubert -- erich@(vitavonni.de|debian.org)--GPG Key ID: 4B3A135C (o_ A man doesn't know what he knows until he knows what he doesn't know. //\ Glück ist, wenn man dafür geliebt wird, wie man eben ist. I have some packages of this somewhere if you want to try it. The latter certainly will be a problem -- I have good reason for wanting to supply my own modelines -- I have a fixed frequency external monitor. I don't need better discovery -- this all used to work, and I've already worked out which modelines will work on my monitor, and X will not do a better job than me at detecting necessary modelines from a monitor that doesn't do DDC. This used to work prior to 6.9 -- I haven't changed anything to do with my carefully crafted modelines, so those should continue to be working. -- Tim Connors | Anglo-Australian Observatory http://site.aao.gov.au/twc | Coonabarabran, NSW 2357, Australia | Tel: +61 2 6842 6286 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I understood the patch to provide extra functionality which potentially makes font packaging simpler, without breaking the existing usage. If I was right about that then the upload ought to be safe, with the new functionality waiting in the wings for whenever we're ready to call on it (I understand xserver 1.4 will be able to use it). The history of my favor for a virtual screen is, that I had a small 17'' CRT-monitor. With my first LINUX ditribution about ten years ago, a SuSE, I came along to get used to a virtual screen size bigger than my monitor could show, as described in the xorg.conf manpage: Display Subsection - Virtual xdim ydim. Hi, Brice Goglin wrote: Hi, Could you try the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel package (2:2.0.0-5 currently in experimental) and report back whether it fixes this crash of gxine? From what I read, the problem only occurs when you use XAA with Composite? EXA has been designed towards compositing, so you'd rather not use XAA with Composite anyway. Also note that "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" does not matter if you use EXA instead of XAA. Brice I tried v. 2.0.0-5 but the gxine crash is not yet fixed, when using XAA with Composite and option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" it still crashes with error 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. It works when "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" is removed or Composite is disabled. I also tried EXA instead of XAA but it does not work. My fonts, icons and pictures look as if the DPI is to low (not enough pixels). Occasionally (when X is restarted) they look good, but usually they look bad. Bug#320828: xserver-xorg: Sometimes crashes in ATI driver when resizing XV window
Hi, I'm the one who filed this bug. Sorry for the late reply; my laptop (the machine I encountered this problem on) is a bit defunct, so I spent some time resurrecting it, and installing Etch on it. On Wed, Jun 20, 2007 at 08:45:52PM +0200, Brice Goglin wrote: > About 2 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding a > crash of the X server when resizing a XV window on an ATI board. I installed Debian Etch on it, and I was able to reproduce the crash just like two years ago. I also tried out Sergey's patch, but it still crashed on me. I did some more experimenting; MPlayer allows resizing the window without keeping the correct aspect ratio (at least, in the WM I tested with), but it will not allow resizing to smaller than either 4 pixels horizontal or 4 pixels vertical. When I reduce the width of the MPlayer window, Xorg won't crash, even at 4 pixels wide. But when I reduce the height of the MPlayer window, Xorg will crash (with a SIGFPE, as always) as soon as I get below 16 pixels. So I changed Sergey's lines to: if (DstW < 16 || DstH < 16) return BadValue; And then I couldn't get Xorg to crash anymore (but obviously MPlayer would crash with a BadValue error). I have no idea why Xorg crashes for me on XV windows less than 16 pixels high :/ Marcel Moreaux <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.2-3 Severity: normal Hi, When I rebooted my laptop (Apple iBook G4) this morning, the second screen remained blank. The Xorg.0.log config file shows "No valid mode found for CRTC2, disabling MergedFB". I haven't changed my xorg.conf since 2006-11-21, so I'm pretty sure it's related to a recent Xorg update. I can't be sure which one since I may have updated Xorg more than once between reboots (and rarely restart X other than on reboot). I am however quite sure I haven't installed, removed or reconfigured Xorg packages recently other than during aptitude upgrades or aptitude dist-upgrades. Also, I rebooted sometime in the last two weeks without problems, so it must be a problem with a recent Xorg update. [yes, I aptitude up{date, grade} more or less weekly] I hope someone can help me out here, since I have no idea whatsoever how to fix this (other than attempting some Xorg downgrades, but that's hardly "fixing"). If there's anything I can do myself (that doesn't involve intimate knowledge of Xorg internals), please let me know. - Felix -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/x11/X.roster: xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target does not match checksum in /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum. Bug#421095: Detects a non-existing monitor on the non-existing secondary head
Hi Gabor, Does this problem with the ATI driver detecting a non-existing monitor on the non-existing second head still occur? Could you try with xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.192-1 currently in experimental? thanks, Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#425814: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Xv broken on Mach64 3D Rage LT Pro AGP-133
Hi Svante, Is there anything new about XV being broken on your mach64 board? Did you by chance look at Michel's earlier questions? (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=35;bug=425814) It looks like we'll have to reassign this bug to the server core (xserver-xorg-core) since downgrading it to 1.1.1 fixed the problem while changing xserver-xorg-video-ati's version did not apparently help. Bug#411179: xserver-xorg-video-ati: R128 dri does not work on slot-loading iMac
Hi Frederic, Do you still experience this problem regarding DRI not working on slot-loading iMac with a ATI R128 board? Could you try with xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.192-1 currently in experimental? Thanks, Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#422230: xserver-xorg-video-ati: [ati/radeon] crash when using xinerama
Hi Arnaud, Does this crash of the server when using xinerama still occurs? Could you try with xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.192-1 currently in experimental? Note that if you want to play with multiple-heads and so, RandR 1.2 is getting strong work in the ATI driver upstream. It means you will be able to place/resize outputs dynamically soon (not in 6.6.192 unfortunately). Brice -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#411716: installation almost succeeds - is X misconfigured or broken?
Hi Hendrik, Do you still have problems getting the X server to work with the ATI driver on your machine? I don't see anything obviously wrong in your config. Does switching to the "vesa" driver instead of "ati" help? Also, you might want to try with the "ati" driver from package xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.192-1 currently in experimental. Bug#422777: bug #422777 prematurely closed

After I received the "bug closed" email, I updated xserver-xorg-video-ati to 1:6.6.192-1 from experimental (and all other xorg packages installed to the latest versions in unstable). And now I have exactly the same problem [bug #422777] again. Please let me know if you need more information (e.g. xorg.conf or Xorg.0.log). [In the mean time, I guess I'll have to pin xserver-xorg-core to stable.] - Felix -- Felix C.
