Bug#417976: [INTL:ka] XKB Georgian keyboard layouts

2007-04-10 Thread Aiet Kolkhi

So, in short, if this bug has been reported upstream, I see a very low
benefit in keeping it opened in Debian.

Allright, then I guess the bug can be closed, as it has indeed been
reported upstream.

Package: xkb-data
Severity: normal
Tags: xkb keyboard layout Georgian patch l10n

This patch revises existing Georgian XKB keyboard layouts, as well as
adds new keyboard layouts used in Georgian.

The layouts included are: Georgian QWERTY, Ergonomic (new Dvorak-like
standard), AZERTY, MESS (Education), Russian

The layouts reflect the recent changes in Unicode Georgian range, as
well as special symbols and punctuation (like Georgian typographic
quotation marks, degree and section signs, etc.) used in contemporary
Georgian language.

The detailed layout descriptions can be found at:
http://www.Gakartuleba.org/layouts/

The patch has already been reported in upstream (freedekstop), just
wanted to make sure it reaches Debian sooner.

This is a patch to /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/ge file (attached).

Thanks.

Hi,

About 6 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding xmag
crashing in XGetImage. Did you reproduce this problem recently? With
Xorg/Etch? If not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.

Bug#12261: Followup, possible patch for second oldest bug in xterm

2007-04-10 Thread Nathanael Nerode
This bug still exists in current xterm, as far as I can tell.

The following untested patch implements Richard Braakman's suggestion from 1997,
slightly more portably.

Open questions:
(1) Where should the logging be closed?
(2) Is any additional portability goo needed to send this upstream (e.g. for
systems without termios.h)?
(3) Is anyone interested in testing it?

I assign these changes to the public domain, since they're trivial.

For what distribution are you trying to backport it? Assuming you mean
etch for now...

You need x11proto-randr and x11proto-damage somewhere before the server.

I'm not sure. The needed files from the server sources are present in
the xf86-video-intel tarballs, so it might just work. It's probably not
very well tested though, so if you run into problems you might want to
report them on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

libXrandr is only needed for the xrandr command-line client (included in
xbase-clients in Debian), IIRC.

Not that I know of. Most of the libs didn't have any big changes
though, so libdrm+mesa+libXrandr might be sufficient.

Cheers,
Julien

A quick look at /usr/bin/startx suggests that the problem is still there:
an existing cookie for a display will be reused even if it is stale.

I might have seen this before, but see that it's against "xbase" rather
than "xterm" - so perhaps I didn't see it...

Bug#391376: xserver should be able to write multiple xsession-errors

/etc/X11/Xsession is a conffile, so modifying it to suit your needs
locally is just fine. I don't think it's worth it to apply this patch
in Debian, though. If other XSF members disagree, they should feel free
to remove the wontfix tag.

spelling catch.
Fix for bug #371152. Thanks Joey Hess.
Pull patches from ubuntu for ARCHITECTURE, LAPTOP, RECONFIGURE,
FIRSTINST, and UPGRADE variables
Move the files so they'll be put in debian/xsfbs automatically when pulled
Update serverabi generation to also account for driver Provides
  Fix name of serverminver
Add support for X server input ABI versioning
Fix typo that prevented the input abi versioning from working.
Fix one missed bit from the serverabiver -> serverminver rename

Julien Cristau (5):
Add new "serverabi" rule to generate drivers dependency on the server.

x11proto-core override disparity

2007-04-10 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the

the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

Ok, thanks. I'd be even better if you could provide a patch to do so
(and have it integrated upstream) :)

Re: backporting xserver-xorg-video-intel 1.9.94 + xorg 1.3rc5, usage report

2007-04-10 Thread emisca

This is a list of what I've backported and its compilation order:

xcb-proto
libpthread-stubs0-dev
libxcb
xtrans
x11proto-core
x11proto-input
x11proto-randr
x11proto-damage
x11proto-gl
libxrandr
xbase-clients
libdrm
mesa
xorg-server

The packages I've updated are:
libdrm2 libgl1-mesa-dev libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglu1-mesa
libglu1-mesa-dev libxrandr-dev libxrandr2 mesa-common-dev mesa-utils
x11proto-core-dev x11proto-input-dev x11proto-randr-dev xbase-clients
xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-video-i810 xtrans-dev

It works.. these things are relatively new. It seems I have not dpms
problems anymore with my lcd screen :-D

xrandr 1.2 is really a dream that become true... but perhaps there is
no application support by gnome and kde. The geometry of X changes but
the window manager doesn't read the changes or it's not notified. Do
you know if there are workarounds for this?

Opengl performance is the same, using the legacy driver. I've not
tried the new i915_tex driver as is still young and unstable and needs
newer drm and agpgart kernel modules.

I've not seen AIGLX improvements. The overlays (video and gl apps)
still don't work well, especially simple glut applications. Is there
any work in progress to solve this?

Intel EXA acceleration is very slow compared to XAA, and I can often
notice some artifacts when windows are resized (using kwin 3.5.6).
Using a compositing manager (beryl 0.2.0, compiz 0.3.6) the
performance are still slow, compared to XAA.

In conclusion I've seen many and many improvements in xorg development
in the last year, thanks to everybody who contributed, good job!!

Bye,
Emilio

Paul, what do you mean by "it was not OK"? Did you get something on
display but it was ugly? Or nothing at all?

It's hard to find a default value that would make all machines/users happy.

As long as the X server works, it might be easier to keep the current
behavior (use the maximal resolution) and rely on things like XRandR to
change the resolution at runtime if needed. Of course, some people might
get bored if they have to use xrandr every time they start the X server,
and thus will want to update their xorg.conf accordingly. Fortunately, I
also expect lots of people to be fine with the maximal resolution.

2007-04-10 Thread emisca

I still have to test well xrandr 1.2 and gnome. For now I tested only
KDE 3.5.6, and I noticed crashes, strange window movements, mad
panels, when I activated a second screen on the fly.

I've seen the soc ideas pages for both gnome and xorg, there is a lot
of work to do.

I can confirm that the monitor doesn't power on when it's powered off
by dpms, like with 1.7.2 driver version, and that's good!

I have been running Gnome 2.14 (the one in Etch) on top of the Xorg
packages from Debian/experimental on a i945 chipset for a while.
Resizing or rotating XRandR 1.2 works very well and Gnome's behavior is
fine. The only problem I remember of is about rotation with XRandR 1.1
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9973) but I don't think
it's related to Gnome.

The (new?) option "TargetRefresh" in the Monitor section could be a
solution for that. A default value of 75 or even 100 would seem quite
sensible to me. This would probably disable the highest resolutions, at
least on a lot of real CRTs.

After upgrading to xbase-clients-7.1.ds-3 NVidia-TwinView stops working. No

Downgrading to 7.1.ds-1 doesn't neither work.

Before upgrading it worked like a charme.

I think it's xbase-clients because today no other X-specific updates were

Bug#383139: xbase-clients: just says "Please install the program before using" and dies"

2007-04-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi,

About a years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding
xvidtune failing to start. Did you reproduce this problem recently? With
Xorg/Etch? If so, could you give more details how to reproduce the
problem? Does strace or gdb give anything interesting?

Thanks,
Brice

I haven't tried in a while, and don't have access to a linux machine at
the moment. The bug report has clear steps for reproducing it, so you
should easily be able to check if the bug still exists.

Bug#311433: marked as done (xgamma: does not report correct gamma when gamma wasn't set with xgamma)

--- Begin Message ---
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1
Severity: normal

When xgamma is run with no options it displays the current red, green
and blue gamma as far as it knows. This is often wrong however, since
other programs (such as games running under WINE or SDL applications)
may set screen gamma without using xgamma to do it. When xgamma is run
in these instances it displays what the screen gamma was set to before
it was changed, which is wrong.

To reproduce:
- use xgamma to set the screen gamma to any value, say x
- run a third-party program that uses libraries such as WINE or SDL to
change the screen gamma, to, say, y
- switch out of the third-party program and run 'xgamma'. It will report
  x instead of y

If the program exits and resets the screen gamma to the value it was
before running, xgamma will once again be correct. However, if the
third-party program crashes, the gamma will not be set back and xgamma
will report incorrect values until the gamma is manually set using
xgamma.

Bug#403917: the "editres" resource-box set "maxWidth" without reason

2007-04-10 Thread Brice Goglin
Hi Michelle,

Could you try xbase-clients 1:7.2.ds2-1 currently sitting in
experimental? If the problem exists there too, we should forward this
bug on the upstream bugzilla (http://bugzilla.freedesktop.org, product
xorg, component App/other).

thanks,

Hi Michelle,

This bug is apparently still present in xbase-clients 1:7.2.ds2-1
currently in experimental. Since, we are probably not going to add a
patch in our packaging to fix this, I suggest you forward your fix
upstream at bugzilla.freedesktop.org, product Xorg, component app/other.

Thanks,
Brice

I have found this Error since "xfontsel" has never (since at least Woody)
shown the sample text right if I use an encoding like iso10646-1.

The two qttached files are suitable for the app-defaults of XFontSel

-# The only usable target here is 'autoreconf`. Other targets are not
-# supposed to be called directly. DO NOT invoke them, unless you know what
-# you are doing.
-# The autoreconf target will check if files with names in $(RECONF_CHECKFILES)
-# were changed during patching (from upstream version or from previously
-# autoreconfed version) and call actual autoreconfing if they were.
-# The actual autoreconfing target (doautoreconf) WILL FAIL after
-# calling autoreconf and pushing changes into quilt stack by design. It
-# should never be invoked by automatic build process.
-# The proposed use is adding autoreconf into clean's prerequisites before
-# xsfclean like:
-# - clean: xsfclean
-# + clean: autoreconf xsfclean
-# This will ensure it is called when you build package with dpkg-buildpackage.

No; in fact, it's been some eight years since I last touched twm or xsm,
and the computer described in the bug report hasn't been working for

Bug#156497: xbase-clients: [xman] apropos does not work

This bug still occurs with the current version in sid. I'm not sure what
must be done special to reproduce, since it's broken by default on my
system. The problem is still that in vendor.h, SYSMANPATH is being set
to /usr/man. On my system, /usr/man is a nonexistant directory. If you
guys have old symlinks lying around then this would explain why you
can't reproduce the issue. SYSMANPATH is passed to man(1) when running
apropos. man searches all zero man pages in /usr/man and consequently
returns no results.

I'm no longer sure that the best fix is to change the ./configure call
as mentioned before. It's probably better to modify the whole program
to use whatever the system default man path is (which man can determine
at runtime), rather than one hard coded at compile time. If that's too
difficult, adding a special case for linux to vendor.h should be
reasonably sufficient.

Bug#392312: Ouch

2007-04-10 Thread Bilderbeek, Manuel
I got exactly the output () from the first message in this bug
report on my
Sun Ultra 10, which I tried to upgrade from Sarge to Etch. (Which is now

unbootable, as for some reason the 2.6.8 kernel doesn't boot either, it
seems it has problems finding the kernel modules...)

What can I do to help and to recover?
