Bug#388329: xserver-xorg: Xserver doesn't detect video card on multidomain PCI machine as Sun Ultra 80
I just tried the Etch debian-installer RC1 on a Sun Ultra 80 and I believe this bug is relevant there. Alas the current workaround is using the fbdev driver - but display depths of 24 and 16 didn't work, so it is currently 1280x1024x8 bits :( The kernel reports: fb0: Permedia2v frame buffer device, memory = 8192K. I'm not sure that is right, I thought it would be more like 64M, but xserver-xorg doesn't seem to accept my value for VideoRam, and runs with a blank screen unless at depth 8. ultra80:~# lspci -v :80:00.0 Host bridge: Sun Microsystems Computer Corp. Don't build the utilities on CPU-optimized > configurations. [...] I forget to bring this up on the mailing list. I thought it was funny that mesa-utils was apparently not built from the sources in the mesa source package. While I'm aware that the utilities themselves don't really change that much, I still think it would be useful to provide them by the mesa package. That way they'll always be automatically up-to-date. It is also one package less needing updates. Since the Debian XSF is the current maintainer of the mesa-utils package, I wanted to ask on this list whether there were any objections to having mesa provide the mesa-utils package. Bug#395044: Please forward this bug to upstream developers (additional info)
I have now also tried xserver-xorg-video-tdfx version 1.1.1 with same results. Maybe the problem lies with libxxf86dga1 (2:1.0.1-2) or in libgl1-mesa-dri, see below?? Can somebody give a hint on how to best debug this driver? Bug#398589: Broke kdm respaw
Hi Otavio, the core file you sent is not really usable as Xorg catches the SIGSEGV, so the core file is only showing an abort. In order to get a backtrace from the segfault, you need to run gdb on an X server with debugging symbols enabled, which will then give a much more informative backtrace. Cheers, Julien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
