Bug#392453: compiz-gnome: BSOD on ppc/radeon

Similar here on a PowerBook G4 with Radeon 9600 (r300 driver).
Everything's got a heavy blue tint, although the compiz effects seem
to work, rotating cube and wobbly windows and such.

Also I seem to have to hold down control for mouse clicks to be
received by X clients -- otherwise they are handled by compiz.
Probably unrelated.

Nitpick: this is about switching of the physical resolution (video
mode), not virtual.

It's an endianness bug in the AIGLX GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap
implementation. Hopefully I'll get around to cleaning up and pushing the
fix upstream soon.

Bug#392745: libx11-6: Problems with locale settings

2006-10-13 Thread Andrea Vettorello
Package: libx11-6
Version: 2:1.0.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

my ~/.xsession-errors is reporting a problem setting the locale with latest
Xlib:

I noticed this one cause it breaks Sawfish windows title rendering (no titles
printed on windows). This doesn't happen with others WMs, titles on windows are
printed, but i still have the warnings. If i use "C" instead of "en_US.utf8" as
locale, windows title are present and no locale warnings on .xsession-errors.

Previous version of libx11-6 (1.0.0-9) works as expected with no warnings about
locale. If you need more info, feel free to ask.

Thanks,

Andrea

Thanks for the detailed information. This looks like a race condition
between the mode switching code leaving pScrn->currentMode NULL for some
time and I830SetCursorPosition() dereferencing it unconditionally,
getting called from the SIGIO handler.

Can you try the attached patch? Alternatively, possible workarounds are:

  * Disabling SilkenMouse
  * Not moving the mouse while the mode is being switched ;)

Alan, if the patch works for Frans, should I push it to xf86-video-intel
git, or would you like to fix this differently?

Makes me think we should block the signal when switching in the cursor
code as in the attached patch. Just as we do for VT switching.

Frans - this means rebuilding the Xserver - but does this work for you ?

Bug#392757: non-English keys broken

2006-10-13 Thread Steinar H. Gunderson
Package: libx11-data
Version: 2:1.0.3-1
Severity: important

After tonight's dist-upgrade, my non-English keys (most notably æ, ø, å) have
stopped working; I seem to get events for them (due to xev), but they won't
show up in any terminals (I get simply no reaction at all). Downgrading
libx11-data to 2:1.0.0-9 and restarting X restores the behaviour back to
normal.

My "setxkbmap -print" (with 2:1.0.0-9) is as follows:

 fugl:~> setxkbmap -print

xkb_keycodes  { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)"   };

tags 390646 + patch
thanks

The first patch you sent did not work, the second patch seems good.
In about 10 attempts to start/quit the game it did not crash while before
I could rely on it crashing several times with that number of tries.

I have not (yet) tested Michels' patch as I expect Alan's would be
preferred.

Thank you both for working on the issue. Hope to see the patch applied in
Debian before Etch.

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#392745: libx11-6: Problems with locale settings

2006-10-13 Thread Anders Semb Hermansen
I have the same problem here with 1.0.3-1

I downgraded to the version of libx11-6 and libx11-data in testing
(1.0.0-9) and they work fine.

libxss override disparity

2006-10-13 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

libxss-dev_1.1.0-1_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says
libdevel.
libxss1-dbg_1.1.0-1_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says
libdevel.
libxss1-dbg_1.1.0-1_i386.deb: package says priority is optional, override says
extra.
libxss1_1.1.0-1_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says libs.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore
this mail. Your reply needs to be processed by a human and will be in
due course, but until then the installer will send these automated
mails; sorry.]

Hi

The latest update of Xorg result of failing opening of input method in
most localized programs.

The library /usr/lib/X11/locale/common/xiiimp.so.2 cannot be opened.
Also I assume it causes some delays in program startup.

Bug#392782: xserver-xorg-video-sis freezes video after recent upgrade

2006-10-13 Thread Gnaural
Package: xserver-xorg-video-sis
Version: 1:0.9.1-3

For at least one year, this driver seemed fine on my
system; around two months ago (sorry, i can't find an
exact date) after a typical weekly Synaptic "Smart
Upgrade", starting X (either through GDM or startx)
suddenly failed catastrophically, with the screen
frozen to the point where I couldn't even switch to
another root console. However, this was strictly at
the video level; turns out I can actually get to the
console -- I just can't see it. Therefor, I am able to
reboot by typing a "shutdown -r now" command blind, at
which point I can grub to any recovery mode and change
the "Device" line in xorg.conf from
Driver  "sis"
 to
Driver  "vesa"
At which point gdm or starx will work normally.

The most notable thing I can see is that
/var/log/Xorg.0.log quits prematurely with this
innocuous, previously working line:
(II) SIS(0): Using SiS300/315/330/340 series HW Xv
Then that's it; video is totally frozen, can't be
reset without a (warm) reboot. I'll paste the full
/var/log/Xorg.0.log below, as well as and lspci, and
the current xorg.conf (the latter not seeming to
matter; I've tried several different ones, including
ones made by dpkg-reconfigure and also X --configure,
I've also tried turning off each module, different
syncs, and more).

  I am currently using Debian GNU/Linux Unstable,
kernel 2.6.18-1-686 (2.6.17-2-686 didn't work either),
libc6 2.3.6.ds1-6, xorg 1:7.1.0-3, xserver-xorg-core
2:1.1.1-9.

Thanks much. Below is technical info:

This error is removed in magellan 1.1.0, which has removed the inclusion of

Does it work if instead of applying the above patch you add the following
line to the "Screen" section in your xorg.conf?

Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

I believe that's the "correct" way to configure X for running compiz with the
new NVIDIA drivers[0]. It works for me anyway.

2006-10-13 Thread Simon Rutishauser
Package: libx11-data
Version: 2:1.0.3-1
Followup-For: Bug #392745

What was described in the original bug report also occurs here. Some
additional information that might be helpful
- downgrading libx11-data alone to 2:1.0.0-9 solves the problem for me
- seems to be somehow utf-8 related - non-utf8 locales seem to work
(tested here with de_ch and de_DE)
- the apps of the big DEs seem unaffected
- worst are the x/aterms - there all non-ascii characters get printed as
two - mutt/nano and co become quite unusable and the pstree tree looks
like this: syslogd

Err - actually this should be two a-circonflexe in front of the syslog.

Bug#390359: Bug confirmed (i810 driver malfunctioning on multi-head setup)

2006-10-13 Thread H. S. Teoh
Hi,

I just wanted to say that I'm seeing the same problem here, albeit with
a slightly different configuration, which hopefully will give some
insight into where the bug is.

I'm running XDM with two local X servers, :0 and :1, running on vt07 and
vt08. This is not a true dual-headed setup; I just have the servers
share the same screen but on different VT's. This setup was working fine
with the previous version of the i810 driver.

After the latest upgrade (to xserver-xorg-video-i810 1.6.5-3), I can
login just fine to either one of the servers, but as soon as I log out,
the X server crashes. This causes XDM to attempt several times to
restart it, which doesn't work. Eventually this leaves the video card in
a bad state where neither X server can ever start again until I reboot
the machine. Judging from the server logs (attached), the server is
getting a bad V_BIOS checksum and an unknown exception (related?), as
well as some permission problems.

Commenting out the second X server in the xdm config (run only a single
X server) causes the problem to go away.

My chipset is Intel 82852/855GM, if that helps locate the source of the
problem.

Package: libx11-data
Version: 2:1.0.3-1
Severity: important

Hi,

After upgrading libx11-data, dead keys do not work any more.
For example, hitting ^ + o displays "^o" instead of "ô".

Reverting to 2:1.0.0-9 fixes the problem.

Thanks.

Package: kde

At intervals (frequency unknown, but enough to be annoying), kwin and
kicker will both start using large amounts of CPU. Attaching to either
with strace -p shows that they're both continually trying to open
ulcUTF-8.so.2 from two locations:

open("/usr/lib/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
open("/usr/share/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No

open("/usr/lib/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
open("/usr/share/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
[...]

packages.debian.org says this file doesn't exist in any of the packages
it knows about, which makes it a bit hard to fix the problem. Is there a
missed build option somewhere?

Thanks,
Paul

Xterm waits here some seconds (~3), and after works.
I installed some iiimf* packeges, and
ln -s /usr/lib/im/xiiimp.so.2 /usr/lib/X11/locale/common/xiiimp.so.2

This fixed the slowdown, but an other error messages appears:

The first error was more annoying, because the slow xterm opening.

Downgrading
libx11-data to 2:1.0.0-9 and restarting X restores the behaviour back to
normal.

My "setxkbmap -print" (with 2:1.0.0-9) is as follows:

 fugl:~> setxkbmap -print
 xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)"   };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete"  };
xkb_symbols   { include
"pc(pc105)+no+inet(latitude)+level3(ralt_switch_for_alts_toggle)+group(alts_toggle)"
};
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(latitude)"  };
 };

Bug#392832: XKB keymap fails to load when X started by xdm

2006-10-13 Thread ryan
Package: xdm
Version: 1:1.0.5-1
Severity: normal

XKB fails to load the keymap when X is started by xdm. I don't think
the problem is with X or xkb, since it works as expected when I use
startx. Also, after I log in via xdm, I can load the keymap
successfully using

setxkbmap -print us | xkbcomp - $DISPLAY

Xorg.n.log shows:

xkb_keycodes { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)" };
xkb_types{ include "complete" };
xkb_compatibility{ include "complete" };
xkb_symbols  { include "pc(pc105)+us" };
xkb_geometry { include "pc(pc105)" };
(WW) Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

When started via startx, the message is the same except the warning is
missing and the keymap is loaded.

Hi,

 I'm pushing gtk2-engines 2.8 to testing, and it exposes a bug with the

 Xorg fixed this in an upstream commit:

Bug#392514: problemwith XF86Config-4

> I installed sunffb as a graphics driver.

Do you know the commercial name of your graphics card?
"Intergraph Corporation" does not really ring a bell here.

What is the PCI id (from 'lspci -n') for :01:01.0?

Could you please send the output of 'prtconf -p -v' (from the sparc-utils
package) to this bug report?

Thanks.

Hi,

 I'm pushing gtk2-engines 2.8 to testing, and it exposes a bug with the
 ati driver when using XAA and RenderAccel is on. Here's a full log
 with various pointers:

 Xorg fixed this in an upstream commit:

 I'm attaching a patch to the Debian source for your convenience. It
 would be nice if you could apply it. (I may NMU if you desire, please
 state so.)

Bug#392864: xserver-xorg: horizontal mouse wheel doesn't work, acts like vertical

2006-10-13 Thread PELLER Zoltan
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.22
Severity: normal

My mouse is an A4Tech WOP-35 optical mouse with two wheels. I use the
ExplorerPS/2 protocol with "Buttons" "9" and "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7".
Both wheels work fine under Sarge with these settings, but the
horizontal wheel doesn't work under Etch as it should: it simply acts
like a vertical wheel.

I've tried several different settings of the Buttons and the
ZAxisMapping options, nothing changed. Using xev I can see, that both
wheels send the same button events, buttons 4 and 5, although the
horizontal wheel should send 6 and 7 (as it does under Sarge).

I use the binary nvidia driver (1.0-8774)

I can send logs and/or my full configuration if necessary, although I
couldn't see anything faulty in them (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)

Bug#392514: problemwith XF86Config-4

2006-10-13 Thread Yosef Cohen

Below is more info. Could it be that the problem arises because the
motherboard also has an intel processor? Sun was touting this
configuration as two machines in one.

Thanks, Yossi

Package: xserver-xorg-video-sis
Version: 1:0.9.1-3
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

After upgrading to this version of xserver-xorg-video-sis, when I next
restarted X, it got partway through loading, switched the video mode,
and then died, leaving the console unusable. I found the following
message in the logs:

xdm.log.1:/usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/sis_drv.so: undefined symbol: assert

It turns out that this version (or another recent one) added a call to
assert(3) in the code. But it did not include . It still
compiles, with an "implicit declaration" warning, but a reference to the
symbol "assert" is left in the object. Since assert(3) is a macro and
not a function, "assert" cannot be resolved by the dynamic linker. Thus
X fails to load the module and pukes all over the console.

The fix is to add "#include " in src/sis.h.

There are a few other "implicit declaration" warnings generated
elsewhere in the code. They aren't causing problems at present because
the functions in question are actually functions, and their default
declarations seem to be adequate. But they might as well be fixed to
avoid future problems. So also add to src/sis.h:

#include
#include
#include
#include

+Description: X.Org X server -- mouse input driver
+ This package provides the driver for the X11 vmmouse input device.
+ .
+ The VMMouse driver enables support for the special VMMouse protocol
+ that is provided by VMware virtual machines to give absolute pointer
+ positioning.
+ .
+ The vmmouse driver is capable of falling back to the standard "mouse"
+ driver if a VMware virtual machine is not detected. This allows for
+ dual-booting of an operating system from a virtual machine to real hardware
+ without having to edit xorg.conf every time.

++.B vmmouse
++is the VMMouse driver enables support for the special VMMouse protocol
++that is provided by VMware virtual machines to give absolute pointer
++positioning.
++.PP
++Installing the driver will improve the user experience when using the
++mouse to interact with the guest operating system. In particular, use of
++the driver improves mouse "lag", provides mouse speed and acceleration
++consistent with the user's host operating system, and enables the

++.PP
++Using it is simply a matter of changing the driver used for the
++mouse input device from "mouse" to "vmmouse".
++.PP
++The vmmouse driver is capable of falling back to the standard "mouse"

This adds a circular dependency between xserver-xorg and
xserver-xorg-core.  I don't know if this can cause problems, and I don't
know if it's avoidable, but it looks a bit like a hack...
I'm not sure anyone will be installing xserver-xorg-core without
xserver-xorg, and even less sure that it should really be supported.

Cheers,
Julien

I've done libxres and libxss now. The input drivers are done (except for
vmmouse).

After having a closer look at the changes in libxau, it didn't seem so
important for us, as you've been saying. There doesn't seem much
point adding --with-lint functionality if we won't switch it on anyway.

Hi Yossi,

Sorry to disappoint you, but the card you have is Sun Elite3D, which
is not supported by X.org at this moment, to the best of my knowledge.
The only thing I can recommend is to get a Creator or Elite 3D card,
which are supported fine by the sunffb driver.

Best regards,

Perhaps I should explain what I'm trying to do here: with David's permission,
I've started working on a new (saner) build-system for Mesa and put it into
the XSF repository. The main goal is to keep the changes to upstream as small
as possible while at the same time trying to get rid of some of the cruft
that's been gathering in the package.

So far there's not much to look at. I haven't reimplemented all of the old
functionality yet, but I will have to get back to that after some sleep.

If anyone thinks this is a very bad idea, then please object.
