The first patch you sent did not work, the second patch seems good. In about 10 attempts to start/quit the game it did not crash while before I could rely on it crashing several times with that number of tries. I have not (yet) tested Michels' patch as I expect Alan's would be preferred. Thank you both for working on the issue. Hope to see the patch applied in Debian before Etch. Cheers, FJP
