Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0-0pre1v1
Architecture: ia64
Severity: serious

Duraid already reported this to debian-x, but it needs a bug filed
so we don't release Sarge without fixing it.

When typing startx, the server spews tons of:

Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 135
Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 134

Duraid said that a self-compiled X 4.3.99 did not have this problem
and DanielS commented that some module loader changes needed backporting
from head.

In the recently modified template about "niceness" of the server, there is a
typo :

"it has been widely notes" instead of "it has been widely noted", I guess

If you plan the modification, please send me the new templates.pot file. I'm
currently working on updating the french translation and wouldn't like to
see my translationfuzzied just because of this..:-)

Hello,

Attached is the pt_BR.UTF-8 directory for /usr/lib/X11/locale.
Unfortunately I could not find what package provides it, so I
am filling the bug on xserver-common, please reasign at will.

This fixes some problems with us_intl keyboards when using
pt_BR, like ' + c generating an accented c instead of ç and
" not working (generating diaresis, instead).

Would you please send this stuff upstream?

Thanks!

Hello, I'm using sid and sometimes the keyboard doen't work when X start
(you press any key but nothing ocurrs). It's solved if I restart the X
server.

That is, normally X work fine, but rarely, when I start the X server,
keyboard doesn't work at all. If I restart the X server (using the
mouse), keyboard works again.

Sometime ago I also installed sid and keyboard didn't work every time I
started the X server for first time. If I restarted the server it worked
fine.

But this is another clean installation.

I also have woody installed in the same computer and I have never had

It's hard to do much about bugs that have already been fixed.

Namely, in xfree86 4.2.1-11.

[The following is a form letter.]

Hello,

You recently filed a duplicate bug report against Debian's XFree86
packages; that is, the problem had already been reported.

While there is often nothing inherently wrong with doing so, the filing of
duplicate reports can cause Debian package maintaine

it would be very nice, if ther would be an autoconfiguration like knoppix does it. i
think many of
the problem reports would disappear by itself then.

mostly it is not absoluteley necessary to tune your x-server to your specific
hardware, it is
sufficient to get it working with clear fonts, and the correct res

Subject: I have removed my XF86Config-4 file and am configuring xserver-xfree86 to
 write a new one,
but it wont let me because there is no MD5 checksum available. I want to to
overwrite the old file or create a new one,
but it wont let me. So I am stuck making an XF86Config file by hand which I
can never modify using debconfig. How can I force it to write a new one. I
have even purged the package and reinstalled it.

Hello !

I have just upgraded the X server to the latest version and my XF86Config-4
was overwritten even if it was not managed by debconf (in previous upgrade,
I was asked if this file has to be overwritten by a new one or not): there
is no debconf line at the beginning or at the end of the file.

>From my understanding of the message which was at the top of the file,
deleting the entire debconf stuff should prevent the file to be altered and
this was the case until the transition to dexconf.

Hi,

despite your comments in debian/rules and debian/changelog, I am pretty
sure that running debconf2po-update in debian/rules is meaningless.
You might want to call it in order to update PO files, but
xserver-xfree86-dbg has nothing to do with it. Here is a patch.
If you find some behaviour changes, please let me know.

Denis

Please mail this bug a version of this file that has linebreaks at least

In experimental, you'll have working 2D support, but no 3D.

The alternative is ATI's FireGL drivers for 4.2.x.

I don't understand. The code I posted was from XFree86 4.3.0.

It still looks like to me like that modes pointer isn't being checked
for bullshit before its passed to things lower down in the call stack.

Shouldn't it be? Or is it snagged higher up?

Can we see your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, please?

Mail it to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

You may be feeding the X server a bad combination of XKB configuration
parameters.

Can we see your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, please?

Mail it to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

The Debian XFree86 packages *do* autoconfigure if you have the discover,
mdetect, and read-edid packages installed before installing
xserver-xfree86.

I'm going to have to have a more detailed explanation of what Knoppix
does before I can do much of anything with this request.

There continue to be problems with this file:

1) lines like this:

" zijn indien deze verschillende X-servers beheren; om dit te bereiken dient
u"" elke beeldscherm-beheerder in te stellen, en hun init-scripts in"

2) Please don't use the term "X-Windows", even in translations:

msgstr "Opdat het grafische systeem (X-Windows) juist zou functioneren dient"

3) The line breaks are in weird places. Most .po files do not change
the English parts of the message catalogs at all.

Can you perhaps find out from other Debian l10n specialists what a good
tool is?

I do appreciate your work on updating the template translations. Thank
you!

Turned out it didn't build cleanly with debug, because it's very, very sloppy,
and ugh. I've implemented the requisite fixes and the build's just started again
now.

Package: xlibs
Version: 4.0.2-1
Severity: wishlist

As more and more apps and libraries start to take advantage of the
Xrender and Xft extensions, it will become unruly to statically link
the libXft.a and libXrender.a libraries in. Some apps require this
now.

I suppose I'd have to tag it as wishlist, as there aren't a ton of
libraries using it (just a prepatch for GTK, and some other minor
apps) But it might be a good infrastructure decision, if the QT-xft
and GTK-xft packages go in.

This bug is now *really* pending, having been committed in revision 462
of the XSF SVN repository.

Sorry I had forgotten about it for a while.

Bug#207976: xlibs: support modular configuration of /etc/X11/XftConfig through include directives

2003-08-30 Thread Branden Robinson
Package: xlibs
Version: 4.3.0-0pre1v1
Severity: wishlist

The idea here is to let font package maintainers sweat the details of
XftConfig tweaking through an update-modules style approach.

We can have an update-xftconfig command:

update-xftconfig { --add | --remove } packagename

E.g.:
  update-xftconfig --add xfonts-scalable
  update-xftconfig --remove ttf-freefont

This command would add or remove lines of the following format from
/etc/X11/XftConfig (which would have to stop being a conffile):

includeif "/etc/X11/fonts/$package.xftconfig"

update-xftconfig --add would be called on package install, and
update-xftconfig --remove on package removal.

(As usual, the issue of preserving user modifications must be
addressed.)

This bug may need to be reassigned to libxft2 depending on how quickly
this gets implemented.

Doing a large upgrade of my system and get this:
Preparing to replace xlibs 4.1.0-14 (using .../xlibs_4.2.1-4_i386.deb)
...
Unpacking replacement xlibs ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/xlibs_4.2.1-4_i386.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults', which is also in
package groff

It also complained about xmix but I deleted that package. I'm not sure
what packages are at fault but it basically means some manual download
and installs to get it fixed. groff is 1.15-3

Actually dpkg -i --force-overwrite did it.
