I'm sorry to disappoint you but it's practically certain that I will not
be backporting this code from CVS HEAD.

The changes to the XFree86 DDX layer necessary to support the RandR
extension are too fundamental to fool with in this way. I'd rather wait
until XFree86 upstream is ready to support this code in a production
release before unleashing it on Debian users.

10x, But as I stated this does not seem to treat the problem(Just to
make sure i've just tried it once again). In fact the changelog
indicated that the XvMC bug was resolved.

Whoops. :)

Have you read the documentation on http://dri.sf.net then? In
particular,

LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo

might give useful information.

Xvesa and VBE [was: m68k buildd's without ...]

JL> vesa one is vesa 1, i.e. vbe, afaik, so it works in lots of places

Just to be pedantic: Xvesa does work on anything that has either VBE
1.2 or later, or a VGA BIOS, or an EGA BIOS. (It has been tested on a
plain EGA chipset by a friendly sysadmin from Sverdlovsk.)

Xvesa can also switch modes, which is useful if you've only got
monochrome modes in the higher resolutions.

JL> even on some twisted videoboards that don't even work with their
JL> original (windows) dirvers.

As far as I am aware, Xvesa should work on any Intel machine you'll
find except if it has an original Hercules chipset.

(We have never seen a VBE earlier than 1.2, but if you've got one and
are willing to do the testing, I'll be glad to write the code. CGA,
anyone?)

Oh i'm so stupid... , apt-get install xlibmesa3 seemed to do the trick

I still get green screen when using xine Xv driver, it did not occur on

It's hard to see something that doesn't exist... it's not relevant.

No, that's because agpgart for the Apple UniNorth chipset only works in
recent benh kernels yet. The DRI wouldn't work anyway, all you'd get is
a lockup.

The easiest solution is to add

deb http://penguinppc.org/~daenzer/debian/dri-trunk/./

to /etc/apt/sources.list, install the xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk and
drm-trunk-module-src packages and build the DRM from the latter.

Yes, sorry, I meant 1.2 vs. 2.0 that e.g. vesafb (and Xfree's
vesa? dunno) does. I always trip up on that one :)

Correct. I'm prejudiced: I don't consider 640x480x4 to be a
'working' mode. Quite frankly, I'd rather not use X like that.

Hmm, strike that. matchbox at 640x480x4 grayscale would probably
rock :) But anyhow, I meant 'does 640x480x8 or better'. Usually
I can get 800x600x16 on boards that either don't work at all
(fubared text mode, even) or work as a vga-only thing. That's
what I meant. Or something close to it, anyway.

As for the [HM]GA, I'm sure I don't care. I'm using them for what
would otherwise be boxless servers :)

sorry, no, my mistake (see above).

Package: xserver-xfree86

So I don't understand why I'm not seeing the video bios on the radeon
mobility m7 lw.. I'm using a Powerbook G4 obviously. I assume this
related to why it can't see the AGP stuff either. Do I just need a
newer radeon driver? I did see some similar reports on the debianppc
list however the exact solution alluded me.

GUADAGNARE DAVVERO, LEGGI E CAPIRAI !!!!!!!

2002-10-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

copia tutto in Word o in Blocco Note e stampalo,
GARANTITO !!! FINALMENTE
TRADOTTA ANCHE IN ITALIANO, PER IL TUO SUCCESSO !!! UN SISTEMA CHE ANNULLA
COMPLETAMENTE TOTOCALCIO, TOTOGOL, LOTTO, ENALOTTO E LOTTERIE VARIE !!!
BASTA GIOCARE E SPRECARE SOLDI INUTILMENTE !!! COMINCIA A VINCERE UNA
VOLTA PER TUTTE 1.5 - 2 MILIARDI DI LIRE OGNI 6 SETTIMANE FINO A QUANDO
SARAI STUFO DI TUTTI QUEI SOLDI
Proprio cosi` !!!
RICEVERAI
1.5 - 2 MILIARDI DI LIRE OGNI 6 SETTIMANE !!! ASSICURATO
!!! Quindi
ancora a disposizione !!!
come sai CON I SOGNI NON SI RISOLVE NULLA !!! Questa e` PURA REALTA` e
succedera` anche a te nelle prossime 6 settimane, grazie all'incredibile
Hai perso I servizi speciali in onda su Raitre, Canale5 e altre
pubblicati. Gia`, come e` possibile ASSICURARE che qualcuno vinca
davvero ???
In
Totogol ???
Enalotto, lotterie Hai fatto fortuna ??? NO ???
Hai seguito u

Wrong fonts showing with msttcorefonts

2002-10-11 Thread Bill Moseley

I'm not sure if this is a problem with X or with the way the msttcorefonts
are setup. If I had a bit of debugging knowledge and a better
understanding of how fonts are selected it might help determine where the
problem is.

I'm running an up-to-date Debian Testing laptop with the XFree86 debian
package 4.2.1-0pre1v2.

I've also installed the MS TrueType package msttcorefonts, and with those
installed Opera displays some fonts (e.g. ) as
the wrong fonts. Mozilla displays them correctly.

I'm not running a true type font server, but instead added to my
XF86Config-4 Files: section a line:

FontPath"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"

Even after reading a few HOWTOs I have very little clue how font selection
actually works in X, so I see this as an opportunity to learn a little.

I guess what I'd like to learn how to find out is:

a) is it a problem with Opera?
b) is it a problem with my X setup, or with this version of X
c) is it a problem with msttcorefonts

I assume Opera is asking for a specific font to be displayed, so it would
be interesting to see if that's the same font request that other clients
(such as Mozilla) are requesting when they display the page correctly, or
how Opera is requesting the fonts differently.

Basically, I'm looking for debugging tips, and (probably beyond the scope
of this list) an overview of how fonts are selected by an application.

I'm also curious about the directory layout.

  /etc/X11/fonts/TrueType/msttcorefonts.scale

why is that the same as:

  /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/fonts.scale

Thanks,

Xine multimedia player for example does not display video using the Xv
video(I assume it's related), instead a green filled window is displayed.

An important note, I was first using kernel 2.4.17 and X complained about
DRI driver version mismatch.

I have then downloaded the latest DRI drivers from:
http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh

I thought perhaps i was doing something wrong, but found nothing on the
debian-devel-x archives, even tried enabling XvMC but it didn't do the trick.

I hope i havn't ran into something trivial, RTFM style...

Bug#164303: xserver-xfree86: Display corrupted when using tdfx driver

2002-10-11 Thread igor . khavkine
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-2
Severity: normal

After upgrading to XF4.2.x in sid, I noticed something strange going on
with my display. First I notices some light "snow", i.e. very few random
pixels were the wrong color. Then more "snow", more pixels were the wrong
color, but this time mostly around the edges of windows that just moved.
This problem only got worse as I tried switching between between the
text console and X. After doing that a couple of times and coming back to
X, I found the display completely out of sync and completely useless.
The X server did not crash, but also refused to switch back to the console.
I managed to safely reboot. Note that I went through all of this twice,
so far. So it's pretty reproducable.

This may have something to do with the "improvements" to the XVideo code
for tdfx. I did manage to watch a video (using xine in fullscreen mode,
which uses Xvideo) before the X server crashed, but did not notice any
significant improvement compared with an earlier version of the tdfx driver.

Hardware and config information follows.

Thanks.

Igor

Bug#164379: cannot get Xnest to use XKEYBOARD

2002-10-11 Thread Sean Neakums
Package: xnest
Version: 4.2.1-2

Whether I start Xnest with no options, with -kb or with +kb, I cannot
seem to get the XKEYBOARD extension. It's not listed in xdpyinfo
output, and xkbcomp (which my xnest wrapper script uses to copy the
host server's keymap to the nested server) fails with:

Error:XKB extension not present on :8
Exiting

I've examined the changelog and searched the last quarter's worth of
debian-x archives, and found no indication that this is a deliberate
change.

Regards,

Bug#164203: support for changing resolutions "on the fly"

I'm sorry to disappoint you but it's practically certain that I will not
be backporting this code from CVS HEAD.

The changes to the XFree86 DDX layer necessary to support the RandR
extension are too fundamental to fool with in this way. I'd rather wait
until XFree86 upstream is ready to support this code in a production
release before unleashing it on Debian users.

Thanks.

Igor

Whoops. :)

Have you read the documentation on http://dri.sf.net then? In
particular,

LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo

might give useful information.

2002-10-11 Thread Juliusz Chroboczek

CGA,
anyone?)

So I don't understand why I'm not seeing the video bios on the radeon

related to why it can't see the AGP stuff either. Do I just need a
newer radeon driver? I did see some similar reports on the debianppc
list however the exact solution alluded me.

It's hard to see something that doesn't exist... it's not relevant.

No, that's because agpgart for the Apple UniNorth chipset only works in
recent benh kernels yet. The DRI wouldn't work anyway, all you'd get is
a lockup.

The easiest solution is to add

deb http://penguinppc.org/~daenzer/debian/dri-trunk/./

to /etc/apt/sources.list, install the xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk and
drm-trunk-module-src packages and build the DRM from the latter.

Yes, sorry, I meant 1.2 vs. 2.0 that e.g. vesafb (and Xfree's
vesa? dunno) does. I always trip up on that one :)

Correct. I'm prejudiced: I don't consider 640x480x4 to be a
'working' mode. Quite frankly, I'd rather not use X like that.

Hmm, strike that. matchbox at 640x480x4 grayscale would probably
rock :) But anyhow, I meant 'does 640x480x8 or better'. Usually
I can get 800x600x16 on boards that either don't work at all
(fubared text mode, even) or work as a vga-only thing. That's
what I meant. Or something close to it, anyway.

As for the [HM]GA, I'm sure I don't care. I'm using them for what
would otherwise be boxless servers :)

sorry, no, my mistake (see above).

GUADAGNARE DAVVERO, LEGGI E CAPIRAI !!!!!!!

2002-10-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

copia tutto in Word o in Blocco Note e stampalo,
GARANTITO !!! FINALMENTE
TRADOTTA ANCHE IN ITALIANO, PER IL TUO SUCCESSO !!! UN SISTEMA CHE ANNULLA
COMPLETAMENTE TOTOCALCIO, TOTOGOL, LOTTO, ENALOTTO E LOTTERIE VARIE !!!
BASTA GIOCARE E SPRECARE SOLDI INUTILMENTE !!! COMINCIA A VINCERE UNA
VOLTA PER TUTTE 1.5 - 2 MILIARDI DI LIRE OGNI 6 SETTIMANE FINO A QUANDO
SARAI STUFO DI TUTTI QUEI SOLDI
Proprio cosi` !!!
RICEVERAI
1.5 - 2 MILIARDI DI LIRE OGNI 6 SETTIMANE !!! ASSICURATO
!!! Quindi
ancora a disposizione !!!
come sai CON I SOGNI NON SI RISOLVE NULLA !!! Questa e` PURA REALTA` e
succedera` anche a te nelle prossime 6 settimane, grazie all'incredibile
Hai perso I servizi speciali in onda su Raitre, Canale5 e altre
pubblicati. Gia`, come e` possibile ASSICURARE che qualcuno vinca
davvero ???
In
Totogol ???
Enalotto, lotterie Hai fatto fortuna ??? NO ???
Hai seguito ul

Wrong fonts showing with msttcorefonts

2002-10-11 Thread Bill Moseley
I'm not sure if this is a problem with X or with the way the msttcorefonts
are setup. If I had a bit of debugging knowledge and a better
understanding of how fonts are selected it might help determine where the
problem is.

I'm running an up-to-date Debian Testing laptop with the XFree86 debian
package 4.2.1-0pre1v2.

Thanks,

Bug#164379: cannot get Xnest to use XKEYBOARD

2002-10-11 Thread Sean Neakums
Package: xnest
Version: 4.2.1-2

Whether I start Xnest with no options, with -kb or with +kb, I cannot
seem to get the XKEYBOARD extension. It's not listed in xdpyinfo
output, and xkbcomp (which my xnest wrapper script uses to copy the
host server's keymap to the nested server) fails with:

Error:XKB extension not present on :8
Exiting

I've examined the changelog and searched the last quarter's worth of
debian-x archives, and found no indication that this is a deliberate
change.

Regards,
