please help.
My inbox has literally exploded with bugs since I released 4.0.1. Perhaps 100 or more have been filed. The bugs are coming in faster than I can do triage on them. I am literally overwhelmed. I would appreciate it if those on this list could do what they can as described on the X Strike Force page in the bugs section. 3 things would help: 1) downgrade RC bugs to normal or wishlist; the very few *actual* RC problems will percolate back up 2) mail people (using [EMAIL PROTECTED]) complaining about XFree86 -configure or xf86cfg that these tools are still in heavy development and useless right now (which isn't true in general, but is for the people who watch them segfault and then just file a grave bug report about it) 3) mail people (using [EMAIL PROTECTED]) complaining about X server crashes requesting that they mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with: A) /sbin/lspci | grep VGA B) /var/log/XFree86.0.log C) /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 This is of course not necessary for the very few people who already provided all of this information in their bug report. 4) Ask people who don't seem to understand the meaning of "unstable" in "Debian unstable" to please go back to using the RELEASED version of Debian, so as to free up developer resources for preparing next version, instead of dealing with redundant, and unhelpful, bug reports. Please conduct all correspondence with bug submitters via the bugnum-submitter address so that I can stay abreast of what's going on. Please conduct all correspondence with me about a particular bug via the bugnum address. CC'ing debian-x is fine if it is a problem of general relevance. Thanks very much for your efforts. -- G. Re: [yori_h@nifty.com: (bug) xserver-xfree86_4.0.1-5]
Yoriyosi, Please do not email Branden directly. Email debian-user if you think the problem is common, or debian-x if you think the problem is unique to the Debian packaging of X. In this case, I believe it is unique to the debian packaging of X, so debian-x would be the correct address to email. [Branden, is there any chance you could get your email address removed from the package maintainer field? :] With respect to this problem, the changelog specifically states that this tool has been disabled temporarily. This is likely a result of this tool's extreme infancy -- it seems to work less often than fail. Please use dexter(1) or write your own XF86Config(5) file yourself. [Branden, could you make XF86Config-4 a symlink to XF86Config? That way, I can refer to XF86Config-4(5) directly. :] Cheers. :) * Branden Robinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [001117 22:47]: > Someone please tell him not to mail bugs to me privately, and also that > this bug has already been filed 3 times? > > - Forwarded message from Yoriyosi Hattori <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - > > From: Yoriyosi Hattori <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: (bug) xserver-xfree86_4.0.1-5 > Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 08:30:20 +0900 > Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.4.4 (GTK+ 1.2.8; Linux 2.2.17; i586) > Organization: nethome > > (bug) xserver-xfree86_4.0.1-5 > > go:~# xf86cfg > Cannot open Cards database. > > go:~# strace xf86cfg >. >. >. > > open("lib/X11/Cards", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or > directory) > write(2, "Cannot open Cards database.\n", 28Cannot open Cards database. > ) = 28 > _exit(1)= ? > > -- > _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ > > Yoriyosi Hattori > $BI~It(B $BMj5A(B > > E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > ICQ:25929223 > > - > Type Bits/KeyIDDate User ID > pub 1024/F0A5D019 2000/10/19 Yoriyosi Hattori <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > -BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK- > Version: 2.6.3ia > > mQCNAznvBuwAAAEEALybc2Uu5TPMJ4UX6FFQ4JtoHyquuplkXgbBvaTF3K44lZ5g > dJLZkTn/p0WpjCBqEahVr7z4zz3I5qiNU+Evr34wrTbG3tSm6cc9PtWRp1Ox23dO > MtwRakmafLWGkOZWbJQyf2U8t67oUPNcO+O6ZJk+fFWelrJRvkHyZHPwpdAZAAUR > tCNZb3JpeW9zaSBIYXR0b3JpIDx5b3JpX2hAbmlmdHkuY29tPokAlQMFEDnvBuxB > 8mRz8KXQGQEBIIsEAKPczsdaUPfT/9h4ZbkiTh5Wh4eU8xxEhdJKLmWpivfhtOs1 > AJYPaooi1zq8cAjK1FiGcDH9DgjXT9Z70h2/maJOydQMW/0fmTmwIJ2MPkM4sf7P > b/4BzAb41MtkKuI1pYqgTm49F2m5fjFsqCowRyrUEJuMPFGEE6UDCQVH+REN > =HdJW > -END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK- > > _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ > > - End forwarded message - > > -- > G. list filter request
Can someone at least temporarily filter [EMAIL PROTECTED] off the debian-x list? he is apparently running a windows email client that has been infected with the navidad virus and is flooding the list with copies of old mails with virus attachments. randolph -- Debian Developer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.TauSq.org/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: list filter request
You should ask listmaster@ for such a request! It's installed. Since there were only a couple of such mails I thought that he had his problem fixed already. I forgot that Debian likes to support things if they are possible. :) Ok, how about making XF86Config a symlink to XF86Config-4(5) when 4.0.1 is installed? Hmm. No, there really isn't a good way of dealing with this. -- ``Oh Lord; Ooh you are so big; So absolutely huge; Gosh we're all really impressed down here, I can tell you.'' -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Removing DRI makes no difference to the graphics corruption. Noaccel also doesn't seem to help. -- Matthew Garrett | [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is Voodoo 3 specific, the Voodoo 4 and 5 seems to be immune, which makes it a little harder to pin down. (They share most of the 2D code) Zephaniah E.
